While the topic of “where’s Brunell?” is picking up steam on New York message boards, mostly because of some reports that the team might sign him on the 22nd, the truth of the matter is that Brunell has not yet been signed is because the Jets were restricted from signing him until today, Saturday the 24th.
So why did people think it would happen on July 22nd? Because the 22nd was a rolling NFL Calendar date as part of the CBA. The actual date is whenever the first full camp begins, which just so happens to be today when the Jerry Jones gets his yip-yippy-kay-yay!-we-gotta-be-first-just-like-that-durn-New-Hampshire-Primary on.
So the Jets couldn’t sign Brunell until at least today at the earliest and often teams just wait until the actual business week begins. Would you waste your last football free weekend on signing a backup QB to the roster? Neither would I. So this might not actually get finalized until Monday the 26th.
So from what we hear, that’s the real reason behind the delay, so not to worry, this should get straightened out soon enough.

Brunell is not the guy coming in if Sanchez goes down, in my estimation that’s Brad Smith. Brunell however, will hopefully be integral as a sounding board for Sanchez as a guy with a large knowledge base of being an NFL quarterback.

Why would Brad Smith come in? He throw a worse ball than the majority of the WR’s. I never understand this “Brad Smith is the real backup” theory. He was drafted as a WR because of his inability to throw.

Maybe brunell can show revis how to appreciate his 20 mill over the next 3 yrs

Well they have been using him in the base offensive packages in mini-camps, so obviously they have a better idea of what he can and cannot do than you do. And did you happen to see the 45yd completion to Cotchery against the Colts? He obviously throws a nice ball.

Obviously I’m not saying he’s a number one option at quarterback, but I think he could run the offense more efficiently than KC did in Tampa Bay.

Any hear about bill cowler passing away??

Oooops check that, it was his wife, RIP

Im NOT worried…..I DONT WANT HIM.

The Jets would be best to stay with Clemens and Ainge as the backups.

Does anyone really care if we sign Brunell. Were done if Sanchez gets hurt with any of our backups
