Link: A Story You’ll See A Lot in the Next Month

Vic Carrucci looks at some storylines and wonders about Hard Knocks and the Jets.

4. Lights … camera … distraction? The production crew from HBO’s "Hard Knocks" will be following practically every move the New York Jets make this summer. Rex Ryan, the Jets’ bombastic coach, no doubt will add spice to every episode with his penchant for outlandish behavior. But can he prevent this added attention and the lofty expectations he helped create from being a distraction? So much of the Jets’ surprising late-season/postseason surge was driven by an us-against-the-world mentality fueled by legions of doubters. Ryan will have a much harder time finding a new rallying point.

I hate this, “cameras and crew” distraction bs. For pete’s sake this is New York. The media is always more in your face more than Rex used to be with pizzas. The players should know by now where they play and who the admiral of the fleet is. They will be fine. I can’t wait…

Carrucci, like most scribes, misses the point.

Rex will have PLENTY of ‘us-against-the-world’ ammo out of all this.

Last year, the world banded together to scoff at the Jets’ chances. And to pooh-pooh their accomplishments (it was only because of this, or only because of that… but nothing the Jets actually did).

This year, the world will watch Hard Knocks, see all the press, listen to the sound bites, and unite to hate the Jets as being arrogant.

I’m seeing a lot of Mets here:
Last year was ’85, the calling card.
This year sounds a great deal like ’86, where the team wasn’t told to win, they were told to “dominate.”

And, boy, did that ever make the NL twisted with hatred.

That has a nice ring to it…
