News: Jets Contact T.O.

by Weeks on July 27th, 2010 at 8:47 am

According to Adam Schefter via ESPN New York, the Jets have made contact with wide receiver Terrell Owens, joining the Bengals as potential suitors of the 36 year old wide receiver.

The Jets have contacted Owens’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and have debated the idea of bringing the high-profile wide receiver to training camp.

A deal between the Jets and Owens still is considered a longshot; one person estimated the Jets’ chances at signing the high-profile wide receiver at “20 percent.”

Ultimately, this is similar to the situation in which the Jets contacted quarterback JaMarcus Russell but never signed him. Still, the Jets are debating Owens’ acquistion as head coach Rex Ryan wants any player that improves the team’s chances of winning.

With Santonio’s four game suspension, I could certainly see why the Jets would want to bring Owens in for a look. That being said, the chances of T.O. coming to New York seem slim. What exactly would the team do after Santonio returned? The wide receiving corp would be too crowded and we all know how T.O. operates. Not only that but would T.O. even produce? After all he didn’t exactly do himself any favors in Buffalo last season.

Then again, if T.O. thinks he can win here instead of in Cincy and the front office is willing to add another contract, he could very well end up in Green and White … let’s just hope the personalities could coexist should that happen.

We’ll certainly have our eye on this story in the coming days …

That would be a nice upgrade to our #4 WR spot, but this guys skills have been declining for the past two years and should continue to do so. His rtard personality is no longer worth the risk he brings to team chemistry – especially with a young QB.

Let him go to the Bungles.

  2. avatar BigKatFan says:

im pretty sure our odds of signing favre were even slimmer than that. i wouldnt count us out of the running for him.

  3. avatar Jay says:

    No!!!! 2 much $$$$.

  4. avatar Brendan says:

I’d much rather watch him get tossed to the turf by Revis.

Well….if he was on the team I could theoretically see that every day, I guess.

  5. avatar CA Jets Fan says:

If we can get him for 1 year and cheap then I say go for it. This is the only REAL year the Jets have with all of these vets. I would rather sign Revis and Mangold long term, but it is interesting.

The truth is that I would rather build a team then buy one. There is enough of that in NY with the Yankees. We have a core group we need to sign long term, and I believe some of the moves were bad moves by the Jets.

    Moves I liked:
    the draft
    signing brick
    trading for Cro

    Moves I do not like:
trading for holmes (why not just keep braylon long term? he is a team player so far)
signing LT and releasing TJ? I understand the money of it, but come on..TJ is great for this team. I live in SD and am not a big fan of this move.
signing JT? I am on the fence with this move. I think he can thrive in the system, but we will see.

releasing Faneca…again a money move. But if we are making money moves we need to sign revis, harris and especially right now mangold.

So with all the moves already made..go get TO and win a championship! Not the right way, but already the way it is going this offseason..all about hard knocks and psl’s

  6. avatar Pdubbs says:

    I think this is a pretty terrible idea…..no ?

  7. avatar JetObsessed28 says:

I hope noone, nevermind the JETS, signs this douche..
He needs to fade away like Barry Bonds..

  8. avatar Brendan says:

“trading for holmes (why not just keep braylon long term? he is a team player so far)”

The way people speak about Holmes in Pittsburgh you would think they had a loved one pass away. Holmes is, by all accounts, a tremendous teammate & competitor. He simply likes the hippie lettuce, but in terms of his dedication to the team & sport, there are very few who can rival him.

  9. avatar CA Jets Fan says:

    Brendan,

I am just not a fan of multiple headcases. We got one with Braylon…

We got rid of one with Kerry.. We got another with Holmes. We are becoming a sexy star driven team vs. an underdog winner which I loved

  10. avatar niko1677 says:

    Greatest…Hard knocks…Season…Ever

They would literally have to cancel the show after this season because it could never be topped…Now if only we could trade for the Bengals Turk Dave Lippincott.

  11. avatar Andy says:

I like the Holmes deal. It was a good move. Now T.O. ummmm no thanks!

  12. avatar vbsiena says:

    Ahhh no thanks!

  13. avatar CA Jets Fan says:

    on a different note though….

is TO better football WR then Holmes and BRaylon now?

I say yes. he is tougher and stronger than both :)

I am just really afraid of the move.

I am not a Holmes fan.

  14. avatar Brendan says:

My point is that Holmes is not a head case, at all. He’s well-spoken and intelligent. He just happens to like partaking in an activity that a vast amount of American adults also enjoy. Aside from his smoking, Holmes is a good guy who cares about football & winning. He hasn’t (and won’t) rock the boat.

  15. avatar Andrew says:

Here’s a crazy idea: Bring Owens in as the #4 WR AND the #2 TE. He’s always kind of played the physical game of a TE and is a good blocker, and gives the Jets yet another weapon to confuse opposing defenses. A lot of 2-TE sets with him and Keller would be sick.

  16. avatar Brendan says:

    CA,

    What.The.F?!

You do know that Holmes had almost 1,300 yards last year, right?

He’s been ranked as a top 10 WR on multiple preseason lists. The guy is one of the premier WRs in the entire NFL. How are you not a fan?

  17. avatar Pdubbs says:

Holmes is awesome !!!! and is going to be the best WR we have next year ….. best numbers even w 4 games less.

  18. avatar NY Smoker says:

CA Jets Fan – you have not watched TO the last 2 seasons if you honestly think he’s better than Edwards or Holmes at this point in his career. He’s not better than either, nor is he better than Cotchery. He’s lost a step and reverted to the hands problems he had early in his career. At 36 he will only continue to decline.

It would be an upgrade to WR #4, and #3 while Holmes is out the first 4 weeks.

  19. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

Signing him means the end of Cotchery to me. I don’t think any of us want that to happen considering how well he has played for the franchise. However, TO would look good in the Green and White.

  20. avatar Brendan says:

    JAGG,

What does one have to do with the other? Cotchery is the most steady receiver the team has, and vital to keeping Sanchez comfortable this year. I don’t see how our #1 receiver’s end is here if they sign a 36 year old WR to be the 3rd/4th receiver.

  21. avatar NY Smoker says:

The end of Cotchery? You’re nuts. Cotchery is undervalued by a lot of Jets fans. He has hands like glue, runs great routes, has excellent sideline awareness and does well after the catch at picking up yards.

  22. avatar Give Leon The Damn Ball (new name pending) says:

didn’t revis call him a slouch a few months ago?

  23. avatar Brendan says:

If he didn’t, then he should have.

  24. avatar MattNYC says:

Congratulations to Drew Rosenhaus for getting the media ( and us I guess) to bite on this.
If the Jets sign this clown, I’ll wear a Tom Brady jersey to every game this year

  25. avatar JayKono says:

I don’t see why anyone would be a fan of this move.

If TO is here, that means less Cotchery. I’ve come to the conclusion that are success in the short passing game with Cotchery will dictate our passing attack this season. We also don’t need a guy like TO in our locker room. We’ve already made enough changes regarding the leadership on this team and he won’t make anyones life easier. I think Santonio is gonna have a big year and I’m starting to come around on Braylon (as long as no more balls hit him in the face).

Less than one week til camp!!!

  26. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

I don’t mean his career is over, but how many looks will the #4 reciever on a team with Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes, and Terrell Owens get? How many 4 wide reciever sets will hit the field on a run first team?

Call me nuts all you want, but for this year he’d smell like trade bait. I’ve been watching Cotchery since Herm had him on the pine. I love the guy, but what about this Jets team says loyalty to you?

  27. avatar NYJ10 says:

There is no way this is happening for so many reasons- we dont have a spot for TO come week 5 as he cant play special teams and is clearly #4 on the depth chart, he will demand to much money and it sends such an awful message to revis, mangold harris etc and most of all we have a second year franchise QB, we want to nurture him not feed him to backstabbing and destruction. STAY AWAY FROM TO we are good enough to win the super bowl right now!

  28. avatar NY Smoker says:

T.O. would be behind Cotchery on the depth chart IMO. He’s not the T.O. everyone images when his name is mentioned anymore, he’s a declining 36 year old WR.

  29. avatar Brendan says:

Just so we’re on the same page. You think Cotchery goes from #1 receiver to #4 if TO is signed? Um….what!?

Cotchery is the #1 receiver. He is the starter. He is not impacted by a #4 receiver.

  30. avatar Brendan says:

The Jets have Cotch Rocket for under 4 million in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Why would they ever trade a great receiver with such a fair and low cap #? That is senseless.

  31. avatar Chase says:

I’m sure this is just due diligence.

I don’t think TO is an upgrade over Holmes, Edwards, or Cotchery. So, basically, he’d just be taking Brad Smith’s reps at WR, as the number 5 passing option (behind all 3 stud WRs and Keller).

No way that upgrade is worth the BS that comes with TO.

  32. avatar NYJ10 says:

Great point JayKono, our lethal downfield threats of Braylon and Santonio will only be a threat if we can consistently move the chains through the air as well, which is where Cotch is so good at- he is the Wide Receiver that is the most key to our passing game this year as his play will dictate whether Braylon and Santonio will be able to roam around in one on one coverage down the field

  33. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

Cotchery is not the #1 reciever Edwards is. Holmes will be 2 and then Cotchery is 3. How many #1′s do you know of that practice mainly out of the slot?

Brendan for someone on this site as much as you are I’d assume you know the WR depth chart.

Don’t undervalue TO to put up the numbers he did on a Bills team that was just a joke on offense is something. He isn’t a #1, but he has always been strong out of the slot and he loves the game. Not as much as he loves himself, but that is another issue.

  34. avatar reality jet fan says:

Just considering another move to sell tickets. The team might be a circus.

  35. avatar brian311 says:

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  36. avatar Mike F. says:

Ok I love Cotchery as much as the next guy but calling him the number 1 receiver on this team is just ludicrous! Braylon and Santonio will be the #1 and #2 guys in any formation with Cotchery being the slot guy. Sorry that’s just how it is

  37. avatar Brendan says:

    Hahaha JAGG,

Please refer to any website listing a Jets depth chart. Cotchery is starting. I don’t even have to look to know that he’s starting. Want to know why? Because he’s the steadiest receiver, and he’s a great run blocker. He and Braylon will start, because they can plow DB’s for the running game. Holmes will work out of a slot and stretch the field.

For someone on this site as much as I am, I sure know how to do a little research.

So you want to sign a #4 receiver who loves himself more than the game, fancies himself a starter, probably wants to be compensated as such, and is nothing but a me-first distraction? Our four receivers (Cotch, Braylon, Holmes, Smith) are all lunch-pail workmanlike football players. They’re not divas and aren’t the type to complain (I give Braylon a pass for complaining about the Browns after going 24-44 -.353 winning %- in his time in Cleveland).

  38. avatar NY Smoker says:

For all the whining people do about Edwards dropping the ball (only 6 last year), you will be screaming about T.O. if the Jets picked him up. The guy drops the ball at a very high rate and doesn’t have the ability to separate from d-backs like he used to.

  39. avatar Brendan says:

    NY Smoker,

Actually, he only had four. Keller had 6, leading the team. I think that Braylon just needs an offseason working out with Sanchez (who throws a very nice, catchable ball – tight spiral) and our WR coach to have him become more consistent. The reason people remember every Braylon drop is because it usually happened on a big play (and people probably lump his fumble against JAX in there with the drops as well).

  40. avatar Ed says:

Pass. Give the money to Revis.

  41. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

Brendan- Read the camp reports. Holmes will and should start. Cotchery is the #3. Current Depth charts aren’t updated until after camp. Plus the 4 game suspension makes things hazy. Cotchery may very well be the #1 next year when they can’t resign Holmes or Edwards, but that is next year.

  42. avatar Brendan says:

    JAGG,

Saying Cotchery will play out of the slot doesn’t mean he isn’t the starter. In 3 WR sets, Cotchery will be the slot some of the time, and so will Holmes. But on two WR, base sets, Cotchery will be out there more often than not. He’s the much better run blocker, something that this team kind of values.

  43. avatar Pdubbs says:

our passing games is looking insane…. forget all this talk about who is where on the depth chart.

    We don’t need TO….

  44. avatar CA Jets Fan says:

    Brendan et al

I have watched TO. He did not have a QB last year in Buffalo. He was good 2 years ago with over 1000 and 10 tds. Holmes had his ONLY 1000 yard season last year.

PLUS nobody is mentioning that Holmes is out 4 games. No practice nothing after camp. He will not really contribute well until at least week 6.

I am not a TO fan, but I am not a fan of the Jets offseason overall. I am a young team building fan. I get it though. We are a sexy team for the first time ever. Look this is not like the Jets. CMART is the 4th all time RB and nobody but Jets fans talk about him. I live in SD and the Padres are a VERY good team this year built from the ground up. The Yankees are a GREAT team purchased with a win or bust attitude. I like when the Jets surprise people doing it the right way..but since we are not doing it the right way in my opinion, we should consider signing him.

Cotchery would stay, but…brad smith gets cut as does clowney if this happens. this saddens me, because they can be good wr’s of the future where holmes or edwards and TO would be gone after Feb.

  45. avatar Reprocity says:

Who would we have to get rid of to sign him? I’m thinking more in terms of the 53 man roster.

  46. avatar NY Smoker says:

    Brendan,

I don’t claim to know about Holmes’ run blocking ability, but I find it hard to believe a WR from Pittsburgh who learned under Hines Ward isn’t a solid run blocker. I tend to agree with the others that Cotchery will be the #3 WR on the depth chart. I do agree with you that he’s the most steady WR the Jets have, but talent wise Edwards and Holmes are better. I could be wrong, it happend one time before.

  47. avatar Brendan says:

The fact is, that they will move guys around every play. Schotty was basically creaming himself when talking about the way he’s going to shift and move these guys around. Cotchery and Holmes could be in the slot one play, with Braylon and Keller out wide. Then it could be Braylon/Cotchery out wide. Then it could be Braylon/Holmes out wide. Essentially, the only guy with a concrete position, in my mind, is Braylon because his skills & size are perfect for the outside but he’s not agile enough for the slot.

  48. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

Keller still sees the field doesn’t he? Holmes speed will help the run game more than Cotchery’s blocking. Since it isn’t a static game, I’m sure he will see time with the core offense, but Holmes was a top 10 WR in this league. Also Holmes has thus far only played as an X or Y reciever in his career. He is a one year rental. Why not let him just be himself.

  49. avatar Reprocity says:

Brad Smith is our KR and 4th WR plus runs our wildcat version, and is also partly a QB so I think he would stay. Clowney would prob be the odd man out. I would rather us not sign TO and give someone a chance on the back end of the roster ie Henry, Allison…

  50. avatar Brendan says:

    NY Smoker,

I never said Holmes wasn’t good. But he’s little (5’11″ and 180-185 pounds) and Cotchery (6’1″ and 205 pounds) is simply the better run blocker. Edwards blows both of them away, but he’s also the size of a defensive end almost.

The “camp reports” JAGG was referring to were basically all regurgitated from one rotoworld.com report. I remember they all came out at the same time, said the exact same thing, just changed a few words.

I know, knowing the team, that there will be no defined roles. It’s a #1, #1A and #1B receiving core. This is a good problem to have.

  51. avatar CA Jets Fan says:

Brad Smith will not be our KR if Owens signs.. It would be McKnight or Wilson

  52. avatar CA Jets Fan says:

    Brendan,

Holmes is a very good run blocker, but I do like Cotchery better from a Jets fan perspective. He is loyal and a great lockerroom guy. He could be a 1000 yard receiver, but accepts his role. He could be a decent number 1 and a great number 2, but would accept being a 3 or 4 if needed for the team.

  53. avatar Brendan says:

‘Holmes speed will help the run game more than Cotchery’s blocking.”

    Really?

I’m pretty sure solid blocking is better for the run game than blazing speed. I understand what you mean (decoy) but that only works so often. You are much better served with elite run blocking from your WRs on running plays.

“Y” is the slot receiver. Holmes has only played “X”, but since his first day with the Jets Schotty has been drilling Holmes’ brain with the playbook so he can play “Y” (slot) and “Z” (flanker) as well.

And why are you so certain he’s a one year rental? The Jets didn’t just rent the guy, they love him and want him long-term. This is an audition, basically.

  54. avatar MEL31602 says:

Mike Golic just said on the radio that the Jets receivers are “okay” and that T.O would be the best WR on the team while Holmes is suspended. I think he would be the 4th best WR (fifth best if you include Keller) and that’s not worth it for a headache like him.

  55. avatar AGE says:

I am 100% against this move for a number of reasons but mostly because TO would never accept being the #4 reciever, which is exactly what he would be. Anyone who doesn’t think so is either ignorant or misinformed.

But in defense of the guy, for all those people saying he would stunt sanchez’s growth or ruin the offense chemistry, I don’t remember him making a scene about the bills laughable QB situation or their dreadful offense last season. But please correct me if I’m wrong because I don’t pay much attention to news coming out of update NY.

  56. avatar CA Jets Fan says:

    Brendan,

I agree on the blocking; however, the Jets had a struggling run game UNTIL they traded for Edwards. Look it up. They became the #1 running team when they got his separation abilities and speed. That said. 1 of those guys is enough, and they are too similiar. That is why Owens would fit, because he is physical and goes across the middle hard. Edwards and Holmes do not.

  57. avatar CM28 says:

I hate the idea though I highly doubt it will happen. I mean there is only one football Sanchez can toss around and someone is going to be unhappy about not getting the ball enough. We have something going here with the team in place and I wouldn’t take the chance of destroying team chemistry be a washed up drama queen like T.O. Like I said it’s probably not going to happen anyway, but let’s just stay away from this. We already have 3 legitimate Wide receivers (yes I know Holmes is missing the first 4 games), Dustin Keller who can create so many mismatches as a TE, and even Joe McKnight out of the backfield can become an option in the screen game. We don’t need T.O. that’s all I’m trying to say

  58. avatar Jcjets says:

Can’t see this happening at all. Revis called him a dog last year! Jet coaching staff prob thinks the same. We’ll be missing Holmes the first 4 games BUT we still have our starters from the playoffs last year..Cotchery, Edwards, and Keller were enough to beat the chargers last year!

  59. avatar CA Jets Fan says:

    Brendan,

It is either a 1 year rental for holmes or a 2 year rental for edwards. wont keep both

  60. avatar dmazz says:

If he wants anything more than 2 mil I’m not interested.

This signing would be purely for selling out the remaining PSL’s. It also generates revenue from several streams like jersey sales and potential advertising. I’m sure having three receivers on one year contracts could become an issue all trying to shine for big contracts next season.

Lets remember theres only one ball for…

    Cotchery
    Holmes
    Edwards
    Owens
    Keller
    LT
    Greene

  61. avatar JetObsessed28 says:

I don’t think this can needs to get kicked any further..

This will either be filed under “due dilligence” or TO’s agent trying to create a market for his client..

Nothing more, nothing less.. Our 3 headed monster at WR is fine, so is the support from Clown and Smith

  62. avatar C Low says:

I WOULD GLADLY ADD T.O. IF, AND I MEAN IF, HE WAS ONLY INKING A 1 YEAR CONTRACT.

THERE IS NO SALARY CAP THIS YEAR PEOPLE AND IT AIN’T YOUR MONEY SO WHO CARES ABOUT THE MONEY.

PLUS, HOW CAN T.O. PASS ON A POTENTIAL SUPERBOWL TEAM AND MORE IMPORTANTLY HARD KNOCKS!!!!!!!!

When he was exiled to Buffalo he was a good camper most of the times. I think F it, sign him for 1 year only.

  63. avatar Brendan says:

    CA,

The biggest way Braylon improved the Jets running game is by throwing CBs 10 yards downfield. Have you ever seen him run block? It’s one of the reasons I love the guy so much. He takes pride in destroying those DBs (and on a lot of plays, LBs).

I understand what you mean by his ability to stretch the field helping. But the Jets still faced 9 men-in-the-box sets with Braylon here. That has more to do with Sanchez than any receiver the team could acquire. Once Sanchez shows he can audible out and burn teams with the deep ball on a consistent basis, that’s when the speed of Holmes/Edwards will be advantageous to the running game.

  64. avatar CA Jets Fan says:

    dmazz

Thank you! It is all PSLs just like Hard Knocks. Unfortunately the real fans want to see Revis and Mangold and Harris contract announcements

  65. avatar Dylan says:

I know a lot of people don’t want TO, but I think he would be a good addition. Do we need him? No. Could he help us? Yes. I think that Rex would be able to keep him in line. Everyone is saying he was so terrible in Buffalo, but he had more receiving yard than ANY of our WRs. I think the Jets already have great chemistry so it wouldn’t hurt. Plus, at this point in his career, TO probably just wants to win. Also, he would make Hard Knocks so much more entertaining lol.

  66. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

    Brendan

Following your line of thinking the Jets should run a full house back field with Conner and Richardson. The defense would have to account for Holmes. Especially against short drops. If they go to stack the box Sanchez’s quick release and Holmes speed will tear them apart. Also consider that any D needs to gameplan against Edwards. He is too big and too fast not to. My apologies on my Alphabet. My point is in Multiple years in Pitt Holmes never saw the slot for a reason.

Where is the money to sign him coming from? This would be his big money contract coming off his rookie deal.

    Revis or Holmes? Revis
    Mangold or Holmes? Mangold
    Harris or Holmes? Harris
    Edwards or Holmes? Edwards

That being said at least one of the 4 guys I would keep probably won’t be coming back.

  67. avatar CA Jets Fan says:

    Brendan

Good point. Braylon I believe is a great run blocker too! I am totally in agreement with that. And Sanchez’ growth should help all aspects of the O this year. fair enough.

Again, I am not a Holmes fan for 12 game, where maybe 10 he will be effective. He is a rental, because they love Braylon too. Should be interesting.

  68. avatar Brendan says:

    CA,

Oh but you can. Bent actually detailed (a while ago) a whole scenario where, if they all agree to reasonable contracts (*cough* REVIS *cough*) the Jets could retain all their good, young players (Brick, Mangold, Revis, Harris, Braylon, Holmes, Cromartie).

Basically, I think that by having so many weapons, the receivers’ numbers will be diluted (only one ball, as dmazz pointed out). That keeps their value somewhat lower than normal. You also have to factor in Rex “the Pied Piper” Ryan and the fact that these guys see that with each other on the team, they ahve their best chance at a championship.

I don’t think it’s as simple as one or the other. If it is, that’s one helluva tough decision.

  69. avatar C Low says:

T.O. would only be needed in games 1-4. Think of him as insurance and a big name to make the D think twice about stacking the box.

You know what they say………..”you can’t make the playoffs after the first quarter of the season but you can definitely take yourself out of the race.”

  70. avatar Brendan says:

    JAGG,

“If they go to stack the box Sanchez’s quick release and Holmes speed will tear them apart.”

I kind of addressed this in my last post. It’s more about Sanchez than anyone else. Team’s knew last year that Cotch/Edwards could burn them also, but still did it. It’s because Sanchez didn’t scare anyone. If he matures to the point where he can do exactly what you said, then the speed of Holmes and Braylon’s deep threat will keep it to 7 guys (if that) in the box. But, like I said to CA, it’s all about Sanchez.

I’ll look for the link to Bent’s article on signing all those players.

  71. avatar CA Jets Fan says:

    Brandan,

That would be great if we can keep them all. I still think 3 of those guys are headcases (Cro, Holmes, Edwards), but thats what big sexy rexy wants to coach..

Another thing we need to consider is NT. I believe Jenx will retire after this year. That is a lot of money off the of the books and we can draft for it with a hopeful rookie wage scale to free up money too.

  72. avatar C Low says:

“If they go to stack the box Sanchez’s quick release and Holmes speed will tear them apart.”

    ——–

    What about in week 1-4?????????

    Remember the Titans (2009)

    T.O. = insurance.

I would cut TO in week 5.

  73. avatar CA Jets Fan says:

TO was looking for 6 mill in guarantees from the Rams..why they bailed. Drew R is smart and will not allow him to sign for less than 2-4 mill guaranteed. I dont think he signs and waits for an injury to a good #1 or #2 in the league.

  74. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

It does come down to Sanchez. I think his skill set will work adequatly this year. Even if the stats don’t reflect that.

Bent is smart and better with the cap than I am, but I’m sure at least one of these guys can get more money from another contender. Plus, Rex is the man, but Tannenbaum keeps shipping out well liked guys. They’re aware of their situation.

Woody is probably set to be cut too. I think he would be another 6 million off the books.

  75. avatar The Jet Factor says:

    CA,

Braylon is a headcase because he drops too many balls? And Cro is a headcase because he has been “spreading the love”? The only possible arguement about headcases is Holmes and even then he is a good guy on the field that needed to get away from Big Ben.

  76. avatar Brendan says:

    CA,

Well, Pouha is a young 31. He has at least 3-4 more solid years left in him. But I see what you mean. The team should look to bring in a young NT that can eat up blockers. The Jets just brought in NT Martin Tevaseu who is a prototypical 3-4 NT (short and wiiiiiiiiide). Maybe he surprises people. Most of the good NT’s are not high picks, anyway.

  77. avatar Scouse Jet says:

Holy ****, I read ‘contracts’ instead of ‘contacts’!!

  78. avatar Brendan says:

Woody’s a great player and locker room guy, but I see that as a very possible scenario as well.

I think the players don’t really get hung up on the fact that the team shipped out veteran players. They were well-liked leaders, but everyone understands this is a business. And humans, by nature, are selfish, so as long as everyone gets theirs, they’ll be happy.

And while a lot of other teams could throw tons of cash at our players, they know they are going to be hard pressed to find a situation as good as this one.

  79. avatar Clownpuncher says:

Why does it look like this team is starting to collect washed up / troubled talent. It’s getting to be like a hybrid Redskins/Bengals team.

  80. avatar Brandon says:

I hate the thought of getting TO :-(

Maybe its Tanny trying to psyche someone else into signing him :-)

  81. avatar JetsFan4Life says:

    Mr. T,

If you read this think about when you were 25 or so and believed what most folks told you to be the truth, i.e., Revis and Mangold and Harris, don’t send them the wrong message (again)…

Keep up the great work, but don’t F the chemistry!

  82. avatar Brendan says:

The “headcases” label is used far too often.

Holmes smokes weed. But he’s also a diligent student of the game, a very hard worker during the offseason, and by all accounts a nice guy and great teammate. Some girl called him the N-word at a club and he reacted poorly (or his “friend” did, whatever). That isn’t a headcase to me.

Braylon hit some little dweeb who rides Queen Shames’ coattails and was trash talking Braylon. Other than that he’s never been in trouble.

Cro is a little more of the “headcase” type of player, but he was also very immature. He’s settled debts, gotten married, and moved on from his earlier mistakes.

I think all three, while labeled “question marks” or “headcases”, are actually hard-working and dedicated players. They all needed a change of scenery, and where better to go than the white and green.

  83. avatar tish says:

If the Jets have money in the budget for new acquisitions, I would much rather sign Douglas for DL depth, a better QB than Brunell, and a veteran RB to provide depth in the event that there is an injury at that position. The cost of these 3 will be less than the price of TO, a player who serves no purpose on the Jets unless one anticipates a slew of injuries at WR.

  84. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

tish- I’m pretty sure Douglas is a Dolphin.

  85. avatar Brendan says:

Yeah, JAGG’s right, he’s already a Philthy Phin.

  86. avatar JetObsessed28 says:

    Speaking of “dedicated players”..
Brendan, you are as dedicated to these comment threads as anyone i’ve ever seen…

  87. avatar jetfaninla says:

dear god i hope we don’t sign him.

  88. avatar Brendan says:

Well, it’s either work, or do this. And I’ve had three cups of coffee (3 more than normal, to cure a hangover) so I’m like a spaldeen ricocheting off the walls right now.

  89. avatar JetObsessed28 says:

haha.. i’m right there with ya

  90. avatar NY Smoker says:

Ya know, maybe we should just use him for weeks 1-4 and then cut him. He’s a douche so I wouldn’t feel bad at all.

  91. avatar klecko71 says:

    NO….

nice message to send the guys you have to sign…. spending any $$ on that douchebag would be a huge mistake….

  92. avatar NY Smoker says:

A 1 year deal in an uncapped year does not impact the guys looking for long term deals one bit. Use him for the time Holmes is out and then kick him to the curb.

  93. avatar JETS#1 says:

I think hard knocks literaly has a boner after reading this

  94. avatar Kdawg says:

If we sign this Bum im not watching football this season

  95. avatar brian311 says:

haha JETS#1, I agree. someone above said that if we added TO, HBO would need to cancel the hard knocks series after this year, there would be no where to go but down

although i am firmly against this move

  96. avatar brian311 says:

also to weigh in on the receivers and run blocking conversation above – it is BOTH speed and physical blocking that makes a WR an asset in the run game. A guy like Edwards has that rare combination, he can pancake DBs and LBs all over the field, but also can run by coverage and burn get deep. The defense has to respect the vertical speed of a guy like Edwards and Holmes, so that forces a safety to roll over top or play farther off the LOS than he otherwise would play. That was a big part of Edward’s impact last year. It forced opposing defenses to loosen their coverage, and that opened the run game. If they close to play 9 in the box, Edwards burt them wtih the long ball (and dropped a few walk in TDs as well)

adding Holmes will only add to this effect. the O will have blazing speed down the sidelines. if teams want to play 9 in the box, they are going to be vunerable to the vertical route (a ball which sanchez throws well). i cant wait to see this in week 5

  97. avatar juunit says:

I kind of doubt this, because they were unwilling to sign him when they needed a WR a few years ago. Why would they do it now when they don’t really need one? I’d be in favor of it though, he is immensely talented and I’d love to see him knock Edwards back and have the 1, 2, 3 of Holmes, T.O. and Cotchery with Edwards coming out of where Clowney is now.

  98. avatar Brendan says:

    Um……..what!?

So now TO is going to knock Braylon to 4th receiver. You guys are living in 2002. TO is washed up.

  99. avatar Ryab says:

In terms of behavior and off the field conduct we took a bigger risk when we acquired Holmes. I don’t necessarily like the move to bring in TO but remember that he has never been suspended or involved in off the field misconduct that the commisioner had to be involved with. He has had bad times with QBs in the past but I do recall even Donavan McNabb stating earlier this offseason that he would have liked the Redskins to bring him in even with their troubled past. His on the field performance speaks for itself.

  100. avatar brian311 says:

honestly, after the jills game, where revis abused TO up and down the field, and TO quit on his QB on multiple plays, i dont see how the jets could possibly consider bringing him in. that truly was a pathetic display of football

  101. avatar brian311 says:

Ryab – maybe his 2001 performance speaks for itself, but he isnt that player anymore. he is a cancer in the lockerroom and if he is going to put up a 1,000 yd, 15 TD season, a team can put up with it. but not for the 2010 TO, he simply is not the same player

  102. avatar CanadianJet says:

Is T.O. > Clowney? If the answer is yes, then the Jets MUST sign him.

  103. avatar tyrone says:

you guys dont remember the afc game when people got hurt and we could not compete hey TO wants that super bowl LT / jason taylor/ these are some big game players that will be needed for the other players that will choke in a big game. WE ARE GOING FOR BROKE HERE IF YOU WANT NICE PLAYERS THEN GO ANOTHER 40 YEARS WITHOUT A SB .HEY THIS IS THE NEW NFL AND IT A SHOW NOT A GAME .ITS JUST A RENTEL NOT LONG TERM.OPPOSING DEFENSES WONT BE ABLE TO PLAY WITH US AND GIVES SANCHEZ 2 BIG TARGETS EDWARDS /OWENS COTH IS GOOD BUT HE GETS HURT AND WE ARE DOWN TO 2 NO MORE BULL WE NEED TO WIN KNOW SO FORGET ABOUT YOUR NICE GUYS.

  104. avatar tyrone says:

IM EXCITED AND BEING A METS FAN CANT WAIT TILL NEXT WEEK I HOPE WOODY BUYS THE METS AND RYAN COULD COACH THE METS ALSO.

  105. avatar tyrone says:

COULD YOU IMAGINE REX IN A BASEBALL UNIFORM

  106. avatar Brendan says:

“AND IT A SHOW NOT A GAME”

False. It’s a game, regardless of how it’s presented.

So you want to take touches away from Dustin Keller (who is more explosive than TO at this point) to give to a 36 year old who can’t outrun anyone?

In case people forgot, the hierarchy of the receivers is as follows

    Braylon/Cotchery/Holmes
    Keller
    Brad Smith
    Hot stinky garbage

Is T.O. better than the first three? Not a chance. Better than Keller? Probably not. Obviously they aren’t gonig to give him Brad Smith’s roster spot. So, is it really worth it to sign T.O. to a lot more money to replace the Hot stinky garbage? When you have 5 players (not even counting RBs) who the team is going to want to get the ball to more?

  107. avatar Nafstejyn says:

I see no need at all to bring him to this team. The Jets are clearly and unmistakably a running team. With the recievers already in place, there’s just no need to bring TO’s disruptive personality into the mix. His declining skills just don’t warrant that IMO.

And @tyrone – kill the CAPS lock key would ya?

  108. avatar NY Smoker says:

What do you guys think of using him while Holmes is out and then cutting him? I don’t want him for the season but wouldn’t mind him for 4 games.

  109. avatar tyrone says:

NO BRENDEN BUT FOR 35YEARS OF BEING A JET FAN IM TIERD OF LOOSING OR GETTING TO THE BIG GAME AND SOMEONE IS HURT WE NEED A BACK UP PLAN .KELLER WIL GET HIS TO WIL BE USED ALOT LESS BUT IN GOOD PACKAGES HE AT THIS POINT WANTS A SUPER BOWL AND GETTING THESE OLDER PLAYERS WILL HELP US .I RATHER HAVE 4 GOOD RECEIVERS THEN 3 AND ONE OUT FOR 4GAMES EDWARDS/ COTH/ DID NOT SCARE NOBODY BUT EDWARDS/ OWENS/ OR HOLMS OR VICEVERSA WILL .

  110. avatar Brendan says:

    Caps Lock.

Why does TO wanting a Superbowl matter whatsoever. Oh, so now all of a sudden he’s the quintessential team player? Right….OR it’s because he has to say the right things to get a contract.

We have four good receivers (five if you count Brad Smith). I don’t see the need for TO.

  111. avatar NY Smoker says:

OMGZ I’M TYPING IN CAPS LOCK SO YOU GUYS KNOW HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO READ!!!1!!

  112. avatar tyrone says:

YOU THINK ITS NOT A SHOW THE MEDIA REVIS AND HIS CONTRACTS ITS ALL A FRKKKKKKKKKKK SHOW ITS ALL ABOUT MONEY AND RATINGS THOUGH FOR ME ITS AGAME I WATCH AND IN ENJOY BUT ALL OF THEM ARE FULL OF SHTTTTTTTTTTTT WITH THERE CONTRACTS AND CRYING

  113. avatar Brendan says:

    hahahaha @ Smoker.

    Caps Lock, Tyrone.

  114. avatar tyrone says:

JERK IVE NEVER BLOGED UNTILL THIS LAST YEAR BUT IVE NOTICED HOW JETS FANS ARE MORE ABOUT PERSONALITIES THEN PLAN WINNING .YOU WOULD PERFER TO LOOSE WITH CLEAN CUT KIDS THEN PLAYERS THAT MAY HAVE SOM ATTITUDE .THE COWBOYS WON 3 SUPER BOWLS WITH ATTITUDES

  115. avatar tyrone says:

SORRY uncapped i want to win by any means nessasary that afc game left me with another bad taste in my mouth 3/0 in afc games ive watched .

  116. avatar SackDance99 says:

I don’t see the wisdom in adding an aging WR that wouldn’t play on special teams. Superficially, it might work as a 4-week replacement for Holmes, but TO, at this point in his career, isn’t worth it. Plus, TO is notoriously hard on QBs and this team goes as far as Sanchez’s right arm can lead it.

  117. avatar Brendan says:

The Jets lost the AFC title game because of their thin secondary and the fact that their two RBs were hurt. I highly doubt TO would have made the difference.

And it has nothing to do with personality for me. What has TO ever won? Oh that’s right…nothing.

  118. avatar tyrone says:

TO does not come in for big time WR he come in to help the running game .the jets have to prtect sanchez we have 4 weeks that holms wont play .So TO comes in to protect remember our running game got good when edwards came in .

  119. avatar Brendan says:

“he come in to help the running game ”

That’s a joke, right? I would much, much, much, muchmuchmuchmuchmuchmuchhhhhhhhh rather have Cotchery & Edwards start than Edwards & TO. What does TO do that helps the running game so much, anyway?

  120. avatar tyrone says:

I understand our secondary and running backs went down . but we have good depth all around on offense but one more scary receiver wont hurt .Hey if he gets crazy dump him .What if he comes in and and does great .Or cotch gets hurt or edwards we will still be in great shape

  121. avatar Brendan says:

Yeah, we will be in great shape if Cotch or Edwards get hurt, because we have Holmes. TO is a shell of his former self, there’s a reason not one of 32 NFL teams have signed him.

  122. avatar tyrone says:

he presents a another threat thats all the problem here is that TO has been a prima dona but regardless hes an extra peice to have just in case we loose one rec. and untill holms gets back

  123. avatar tyrone says:

nobody wanted randy moss neither and look what he did

  124. avatar tyrone says:

what do we have to loose

  125. avatar tyrone says:

the jets are also a target this year so believe me someone will get hurt .

  126. avatar SackDance99 says:

While Holmes is out, the Jets will have the same WRs that they had for the playoffs and Edwards has a full camp to get in synch. Arguably, without Holmes, the receiving corps improved because of Edwards being in camp, LT coming out of the backfield and Sanchez developing more chemistry with all of them. Holmes is a tremendous addition, but losing him for the first 4 weeks is not a subtraction. Thus, there really isn’t any “need” for TO because he isn’t really replacing anyone that the Jets have relied on.

  127. avatar Brendan says:

They were a target last year. At least this year they have last year’s success to back up what they’re saying.

Randy Moss was 30 years old when the Pats got him. A lotttt different than a 36 year old TO.

  128. avatar NY Smoker says:

The first 4 weeks are extremely important this year with a playoff contender in Baltimore and 3 divisional games. I wouldn’t mind this clown for those 4 weeks as our #3 WR.

  129. avatar Tos9987 says:

If we didnt get holmes id be all over this but the fact is we really only have 2 spots for the the 3 of them , how would you keep them happy .

I really like braylon I hope he is the guy they keep after this year . I know it sucks he drops a lot, but just the fact that he opens the field for everthing else we do .

I am also leary that holmes will get a big suspention down the road I think he would be too much risk long term

  130. avatar boozer says:

    Say no to TO!

  131. avatar Bent says:

Tyrone – “COULD YOU IMAGINE REX IN A BASEBALL UNIFORM”

    I don’t have to…

    PS – STOP SHOUTING!

  132. avatar Bent says:

    T.O.?

    N.O.

  133. avatar tyrone says:

yeh not bad bent maybe he could pitch also

  134. avatar Brendan says:

    Bent,

Once again doing what I couldn’t. For whatever reason, I couldn’t find that picture (even thought I used to have it as my background on my computer).

  135. avatar Brendan says:

    Tyrone,

Rex actually threw a pretty hard and straight pitch. Said something about the Ryan men all being hard throwers or something. You can tell the guy is surprisingly athletic for a man of his….stature.

  136. avatar NY Smoker says:

For everyone saying no, I completely understand, that was my initial reaction too. He’s been in decline for 2 years now, is 36, and will likely only get worse as time goes on.

That said, ask yourself, is he better than Clowney or Smith speaking soley in terms of a WR? The answer is unequivically YES. Then ask yourself, how important are those first four games against Bal, NE, MIA, and BUF?

I say sign him to a one year deal and if everyone is still healthy after week four we can cut him, or if we’re lucky enough possibly trade him to a team who had a WR go down with injury. No one should feel bad about using and cutting/trading a douche like T.O. after 4 weeks.

  137. avatar C Low says:

So now TO is going to knock Braylon to 4th receiver. You guys are living in 2002. TO is washed up.
    ———————————-

Yes he is but he is still a threat.

Listen…our first three games are against Baltimore, Pats and Miami. Three crucial games that we will not have Holmes and WILL need to RUN THE BALL EFFECTIVELY.

A defense will have to still respect a washed-up T.O. before they think of stacking the box and playing solo coverage on BE AND T.O.

Remember what happened to the Titans last year? You can’t make the playoffs in the first 1/4 of the season but you can sure as hell take yourself out of the running.

T.O. would give Baltimore and the Pats in week 1 and 2 another wrinkle that they need to account for.

And the fact that this is an uncapped year and he will only demand a 1 year deal is perfect. Hey, its not my money and you lose nothing besides Woody’s greenbacks if it doesn’t pan out.

    We need pre-Holmes insurance

  138. avatar Led says:

Unless TO (or Edwards or Holmes) agree to cover kicks, this ain’t happening. As that would be stupid….this ain’t happening. Nothing against TO, but specials and roster construction are important. You can’t build a roster with that many WRs who don’t cover kicks.

  139. avatar Brendan says:

You should really be asking is he better than Keller. That’s the real 4th receiver on this team.

  140. avatar Bent says:

Smoker – I get that. To get 4 weeks out of him and then trade him for value would be great business. (I’m kinda hoping that’s what happens with Clowney). That’s probably why they’re considering it.

He wasn’t a distraction last year, but then again if a tree falls in the woods and there’s nobody around to hear it…

The potential is definitely there for him to complain about his touches and add to the pressure on Sanchez.

    I’d pass.

  141. avatar Brendan says:

    C Low,

How can TO be a threat and be washed up simultaneously? And, again, who in their right mind is removing Cotchery from the lineup in favor of a 36 year old WR in decline? Anyone?

It’s not any of our money, but that doesn’t mean we should spend our offseason doing fantasy shopping sprees, either. TO is NOT good. He wouldn’t start over Cotchery. He would maybe get 1/3 of the plays at WR. MAYBE. Edwards, Cotchery & Keller are all definitely better options. LT and Brad Smith are probably just as viable. Why even entertain the idea of bringing in this washed-up headache?

The Jets survived an entire season last year without Holmes. I’m pretty sure (with an improved Sanchez, improved QB/WR chemistry, and the running game the Jets have) that the Jets won’t be 0-4 or 1-3 come Week 5.

  142. avatar NY Smoker says:

I think Clowney is replacing Wright on special teams so I doubt he goes anywhere. If the plan is as I put it out and he starts acting a fool we could just cut him whenever we wanted. The only thing at risk would really be Woody’s money, and I don’t care about that.

Sign him up for a 4 week rental/insurance plan.

  143. avatar tyrone says:

for a guy nobody want .it certanly has drown alot of attention. our subconscous telling us we need another big name receiver clow said it you still have to respect him when on the line.

  144. avatar Brendan says:

    Smoker,

You don’t, but he does. And so do his employees that are in charge of spending that money wisely. Wisely being the key word.

  145. avatar Brendan says:

    tyrone,

This is getting a lot of attention on this blog because we’re all losing our minds with Training Camp so close. I watched Hard Knocks promos for 20 minutes last night and I was two seconds from putting on my Jets helmet and putting holes in the wall. It’s just what happens this time of year.

  146. avatar tyrone says:

its just to forget abouth the mets

  147. avatar NY Smoker says:

I’m not saying it’s likely to happen, I just find it an attractive idea from a fans perspective. It would be nice help for 4 very important games to start the season as well as insurance against Edwards or Cotch getting injured during that span.

  148. avatar Brendan says:

Haha, I feel your pain there tyrone.

  149. avatar tyrone says:

we are all excited about the jets and they are to but I would hope they stay focus one game at a time . it a good way to think

  150. avatar C Low says:

How can TO be a threat and be washed up simultaneously? And, again, who in their right mind is removing Cotchery from the lineup in favor of a 36 year old WR in decline? Anyone?
    ——————————–
The same way that David Ortiz is washed up. He is a shell of what he once was but you still have to respect him.

Are you telling me that a defense wouldn’t think twice about having the safety vacate TO’s side to sell out on the run? TO is an upgrade over Clowney and his speed. And the only down side to taking him for a 1 year deal would be a roster spot. (This team is already filled with characters so please don’t even bring up his antics.)

  151. avatar C Low says:

T.O. can still be used as a decoy and can keep the defense a little more honest than they would if Clowney was in. That’s all I am saying. Sanchez and the running game need all the help they can get.

  152. avatar tyrone says:

all in favor for to YES hey what if cinncinatti gets him and they beat us in the playoffs with to and ochcinco .we be like ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhnoooooooooo

  153. avatar root says:

THE JETS WILL NOT SIGN T.O

THIS IS FOR THE HARD KNOCKS SERIES COMING UP.

RATINNNNNNNNNNNNGS, thats if he is in camp.

  154. avatar tyrone says:

    it will make edwards better

  155. avatar Brendan says:

Ortiz is back on the juice. Let’s be serious.

And TO’s antics are divisive. No one else on the team is like that, even if they are outspoken or nuts or whatever. That’s what separates TO from the other characters on the team.

Roster spots need to all be utilized, and since TO wouldn’t play any special teams, his 4th/5th receiver spot would be wasted (as those guys usually play STs).

Do I think a team would think twice about bringing the safety on TO’s side into the box to stop the run? Not for a second.

  156. avatar Brendan says:

How often is Clowney, the 5th receiving option, even going to see the field?

  157. avatar tyrone says:

TO IS decoy great idea .you see guys it worth the signing.

  158. avatar Brendan says:

    tyrone,

We obliterated the Bungles twice last year. Revis and Cro are such a better duo than Chad and TO (the VH1 Reality Girls!) that it’s laughable.

  159. avatar reality jet fan says:

You wouldnt know ortiz is back on the juice because espn loves their red sox. You wouldnt know manny and ortiz were both busted.

  160. avatar tyrone says:

cant win with you guys ok **** to

  161. avatar JakeG says:

if he doesn’t produce, they get get rid of him. if he does, they have a dilemma after the first 4 games… but a good dilemma. imagine the other three and then a producing T.O.

  162. avatar C Low says:

ESPN reports Jets offer 2 year, $6 Million to TO
    ——————-
That’s got to be BS, 2 years!!???!?!?!?!?!
    provide link…..

  163. avatar boozer says:

I do still think TO can still play, but his off field problems are just not worth it.

  164. avatar tyrone says:

    well i guess welcome TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  165. avatar C Low says:

I don’t believe that rumor. Why would Mr. T offer 2 years and let TO’s contract bleed into a potential cap year when he is trying to already shoehorn all of the potential FA’s and contract disputes into the 2011 season.

    That makes no sense.

  166. avatar tyrone says:

i did not see that on espn web

  167. avatar Brendan says:

Haha wow. John Clayton says that “Shonn Greene vs. LT” is one of the top 5 camp battles in the AFC. Time to bring him in for a tune-up.

Also, my body Terrance Cody (who I wanted REALLY badly) didn’t pass his conditioning test. Ha ha ha. Can’t say I’m shocked.

  168. avatar Bent says:

Interest is minimal per Tim Graham.

The report above appears to be bogus and not very funny.

  169. avatar tyrone says:

they offer 2 years but they could cut him also

  170. avatar Bent says:

    Funny typo there, Brendan.

  171. avatar C Low says:

Also, my body Terrance Cody (who I wanted REALLY badly) didn’t pass his conditioning test. Ha ha ha. Can’t say I’m shocked.
    —————-
I wanted him badly also. Feast or famine though, NPI. I hope he and Kindle don’t pan out or else the AFC is in trouble

  172. avatar Bent says:

Kindle’s not off to the best start either. What’s the latest on his condition?

(If you missed it, he fell downstairs).

  173. avatar Brendan says:

haha, my body is equivalent to Mt. Cody’s left moob.

  174. avatar Bent says:

    Alvin Keels strikes again, huh?

The stunning thing is that he got Cody signed and into camp, although it’s much easier with a pick that low.

I went to see if he tweeted about Cody’s failure and found this gem:

“I’m ready to close out like Kobe in the 4th quarter. Let’s go!”

Umm, didn’t Kobe shoot like 21% in the fourth quarter in the finals? You go get ‘em, Alvin.

  175. bringing in TO would be much worse than the jason taylor move…hes over the hump n is a cancer to everyone around him…Tanny dont do it!!!!!!!!!

  176. avatar Brendan says:

    6 for 24!!!!! FINALS MVP!!!!!

God I hate Keels. Does he represent anyone on the Jets anymore?

  177. avatar C Low says:

So is that TO 2 year offer BS or not?

  178. avatar Brendan says:

Looks like BS, C Low. No one has found anything that has said it.

  179. avatar NY Smoker says:

^ nothing on twitter or espn, I’m leaning towards complete and utter bs.

  180. avatar Bent says:

C Low – pretty sure it’s bogus. Big news like that is generally posted simultaneously by at least 3 people and often with a link. Add to that the fact that the poster is someone I’ve never heard of and you know the rest.

If I’m wrong, I’ll apologize later.

Brendan – Some sources list him as representing Keller, but we think they must have jumped the gun on a deal that presumably fell through.

  181. avatar Brendan says:

Yeah, I thought so also, but I didn’t see anything like that anymore. I hope that’s the case, I like Keller and don’t want him being tainted by Keels’ slime.

  182. avatar billvv says:

Is this a record for posts per minute?

  183. avatar Bent says:

Yes, the 2 year, 6m offer was bogus.

The poster in question (not a regular) used a fake name, which they’ve done before.

Don’t do it again. You know who you are.

  184. avatar Brendan says:

    American backwards, realllllll original.

  185. avatar igs says:

Remember what I said about Tannenbaum not being able to chill? maybe now, in the extreme, you can see what I’m talking about.

  186. avatar Brendan says:

    These are rumors, igs.

And I don’t care that he puts phone calls in to every player available. I only care when he puts pen to paper and makes them Jets.

  187. avatar C Low says:

I’m late to the party but finally saw that “GO TIME!” commercial on SNY and that officially pumped me up for the start of the season! Great Advertisement, still say no to the PSL’s though…lol

  188. avatar C Low says:

If Mr. T was the Knicks GM you think he could have landed Lebron? I really think so.

  189. avatar Brendan says:

Queen Shames had his mind made up years ago. No GM could have led him here.

  190. avatar Give Leon The Damn Ball (new name pending) says:

the only reason I wouldn’t want TO is because the media would harp about chemistry issues all season. can you imagine Edwards, holmes, TO, cotch and Keller on the field at the same time? how could any team scheme against that? and that’s probably what tanny is thinking if this TO rumour is true. our offense would be ridiculous.

just remember TO is very well behaved in his first season with a team.

  191. avatar JETS#1 says:

guys who would win in a pitching contest rexs or obama? lol

  192. avatar Brendan says:

    Rex, no contest.

Now, Rex vs. George W. is a different story. He may have been a blundering idiot, but man did the former President throw a mean heater.

  193. avatar Bent says:

Real bent is around and will be deleting fakebent’s (aka Ryan, aka djanon, aka nacirema) posts and banning him from the site until he apologizes publically in due course.

How do you know I’m the real bent? Can fakebent do this? (probably, if he knows basic html, but you get the idea.

    Sincerest form of flattery…

To clarify, no the Jets have not made an offer to TO.

  194. avatar JETS#1 says:

aman to that brendan remember the pitch he threw after 9/11

  195. avatar Bent says:

Guys – the clue was there.

Do you really think I would have said “I hope he accepts”?

  196. avatar Brendan says:

I do. I also remember the first game played in NYC after the attacks (I was there) and I don’t think I’ve ever been at such an emotional moment in my life. By that I mean I don’t think I’ve ever been present when almost 50,000 people simultaneously were overcome with joy, sadness, and an array of unexplainable feeling. I’ll never forget that day for the rest of my life. After Piazza hit that monstrous home run to put the Mets ahead I doubt you could have found a dry eye in the entire place.

  197. avatar Brendan says:

Hah, I thought you were being sarcastic. You have been known to work the dry humor before.

  198. avatar Bent says:

    Who me? Neeeever!

  199. avatar JETS#1 says:

forget T.O. lets get Chad Ochocinco instead so he can make uncle K.J. proud

  200. avatar Ian DeMartino says:

Worst idea ever, We already have a talented, big, receiver that drops a lot of passes, and hes younger and far more effective at this time in his career. There is no where for T.O. to go. Edwards is like T.O. a few years ago without the headache. No one would argue that Santinio Holmes is less effective at this time in his career and since T.O. wouldn’t accept being a fourth WR that would mean we have to move Cotchery who is the most sure handed receiver we have. There is simply no reason to sign him, he would actually make our WR core worse. You heard of addition by subtraction, this would be subtraction by addition.

  201. avatar Green Goblin says:

The Jets should definitely sign TO. He would give them the best WR corps. in the history of the NFL. Other teams would be defenseless with all the weapons the Jets would have on offense. This season is gonna be the best shot the Jets have at a Superbowl so they may as well go out. TO’s also a great insurance policy if one of the other WRs get hurt. Sign him!!!!!

  202. avatar Randy says:

As long as TO can shutup and not become a distraction on Mark Sanchez, I am ok with this move if it is for just this season.By seasons end we are bringing back Cotchery and whomever has the better season between Edwards and Holmes.

Think about it this way..Cotchery will remain in the slot and Owens will line up opposite Edwards. When Holmes comes back..OHHH MY GODDD the weapons we would have.Edwards and Holmes play opposite one another with Cotchery/Owens platooning the Slot and Tomlinson and Keller also as possible receievers.

    The Shotgun would be Sick.

Edwards,Holmes,Owens,Cotchery,Keller and Tomlinson all as potential receivers.

  203. avatar Randy says:

But in all honesty I understand why the Jets would make this move.Owens would be replacing Holmes for the first 3 weaks as a deep threat, this way we are still playing a full season with 3 WR threats and by having Holmes come back week four it can make us even stronger. It also gives up depth at WR in the event someone gets unjured.

  204. avatar Randy says:

2 Years? NO WAY.It better be a 1 year with an option for 2 years.

  205. avatar Joe B. says:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31g0YE61PLQ

We’re already praying that Braylon and Santonio will be able to coexist and get enough balls from Sanchez to stay happy. Now we’re going to add this misfit locker room cancer to that equation? This is ridiculous, there are more than enough controversial new faces to integrate and keep happy already. Terrible idea.

  206. avatar WW85 says:

If TO can still play, I could understand this. But that is very much in doubt. I hate him as a person. I don’t know if he can still break a tackle. He is physical & can be a terrific decoy. Is that worth bringing him onto a team where chemistry could be an issue this year?

    PASS

  207. avatar juunit says:

I think this website needs to employ a “reply” button…

  208. avatar Brendan says:

A while back I thought so also, but then I thoguht about it. And those “reply” buttons make it very hard to figure out where the latest posts went up, because if you respond to comment 1 of 200, most people won’t find it.

  209. avatar Bent says:

We considered it, but with sites that get this many comments, it’s more confusing to follow multiple conversations at once than just one overall conversation, especially for those poor unfortunates that have to moderate the conversation. (eg me).

  210. avatar Mike says:

    DONT SIGN T.O
this guy is a CRY BABY..

if he doesnt get the ball thrown to him, He is gonna start crying to the media

  211. avatar nyjwtf says:

I think hbo made this rumor up to make hard knocks more lucrative. ; )

This is becoming a media circus. Fu** this idea I am more than happy with Holmes cotch bray n smith. If they want to start running a double tight, this might work. But no1 should loose their job for this dousche.

  212. avatar boozer says:

Sources are reporting TO to the bengals…thank god.

  213. avatar Booskie24 says:

T.O. Signed with the Bengals. Another wasted argument….lol

  214. avatar JayM says:

    Adam Schefter

Filed to ESPN: Terrell Owens reached agreement with Bengals on a one-year, $2 million deal that includes another $2 million in incentives.

Move along nothing to see here

  215. avatar Bent says:

Great, that makes the Bengals game a tougher matchup for everyone in our division (but not us) this season.

Randy – there never was a two year offer, that was a troll who said that.

  216. avatar Randy says:

    JayM

Finally this TO story ended before it started becoming a big story around here.If he went unsigned for 2 days..there would have been too much talk about getting Owens that we all would have wanted it to happen and when it didn’t it would have made some of us disapointed.

  217. avatar WW85 says:

One thing I like about Tanny & co is they are contacting these guys even if they know we won’t sign them. It keeps the Jets knowledge base up. Also, it drives up the price of players in case any of our division rivals are looking.

I always thought we should have at least gotten involved in the Randy Moss bidding so at least the Pats wouldn’t get him for just a 4th round pick.

I think Tanny learned his lesson from that…

  218. avatar Green Goblin says:

What about Coles. Tanny should sign him for the minimum. He’d be a great fourth wr at this point in his career and can fill in while Holmes is out. At the very least he’s worth the risk if he’ll sign on the cheap. Plus Revis loves him and anything will help out at this point in those negotiations.
