Cannonball!!!!
Dennis Dillon of The Sporting News compiled a list of ten players who he thinks will have an impact year with their new teams. Amidst names like Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson, Ravens receiver Anquan Boldin and Bengals rookie tight end Jermaine Gresham, he adds one Jet (and one former Jet, Thomas Jones).
Brodney Pool, S, Jets
Coach Rex Ryan says Pool, a former Browns player, has a chance to win the free safety spot, left open when Kerry Rhodes was traded to Arizona, and join arguably the best secondary in the league.“He’ll be out there with the No. 1 defense in football and starting, so I think he’s going to be a major contributor,” Ryan said. “This guy has a lot of ability in the back end, and I think he’s going to make a lot of plays for us.”
Making the point that since he’s joining such a good unit, Pool doesn’t have to be great. Just being solid will go a long way.
Old-school pinstriped Magic cap tip thanks to Joe in Orlando.

I’m intrigued to hear how this donovan warren fellow pans out. Not like I got anything against the Pool, to the contrary I swam for 12 years (try the veal!), but wasn’t Warren a projected 1-2 rounder until he had a horrible 40 time?
Either way I agree that he just needs to be solid.
And Lito Sheppard wasn’t really on the team last year, he just got paaaid.-
i’d love to see Warren used at times this year, get him some experience so eventually he can take over the FS job.

if u follow him on twitter he talks alot about how he trains hard and how he knocked out the physical test that mcknight couldnt pass

This defense looks so sick. And im happy with the offense as well. I don’t really expect Ladainian Tomlinson to be a huge contributor…but his veteran leadership can really help Shonn Greene mature into a solid back. Look for LT to get carries on 3rd downs.
I LOVE our WR corp, O-line, QB, and running game should have a good season.
As for the defense…just look at the name on the roster. Nuff said. Not to mention Rex Ryan is a blitzing King…which I love!!
I’m excited gentlemen!! Lets get the season started Bassett!

Well to be fair if he isn’t as good he’ll stick out more to the fans if he’s the one messing up the most plays. But I suppose in the end it’s all about the team effort, so as long as he doesn’t totally screw up we should be fine? I’m just wary of that aggressive nature he supposedly has. I don’t want him running through tackles seeing how he’s the last line of defense. Even if it means he’ll make the occasional spectacular flattening, I’d rather him be boring but consistent.

Brian,
Just a side note. May we revisit the issue of underbars for links in posts?
This post is a good example of what we were mentioning about the redesign. Not all the BF styled text is linked.
It’s just really confusin for all of us, as to which text is a link and which is not. I assume it’s more so for folks with any kind of visual things to deal with.
The editor in me rears its ugly head…
Thanks!

Urp. The editor in me also says that my reply should read: “confusing.”

Also the side bar links in the Spyder Sports thing is really hard to read with the black on green.

Yes, agreed. I for one look at SptSpr a lot, but not much since the re-do. Brian, can we also get that fixed, please?
