Movie Night
CORTLAND–It’s movie night in Cortland. During this morning’s practice, coach Rex Ryan had CB Drew Coleman attempt a 44-yard field goal. If he made it, Ryan would cancel the evening meetings and take the team to the movies. With Marquice Cole holding, Coleman missed wide right. However, unbeknownst to the players, the whole thing was a ruse. Ryan was taking them to the movies regardless. Will provide player reaction tomorrow.
During afternoon practice LaDainian Tomlinson was seen hobbling off the field and then having his ankle looked at. Hopefully we’ll have an update on that tomorrow. There is an interesting situation at fullback. On the one hand there is 16-year veteran Tony Richardson and on the other rookie John “The Terminator” Conner. Both look great. Today Ryan talked about the situation at that position. “Is [Richardson] being pushed by this kid? Certainly. This guy (Conner) is turning heads.”
Ryan also said that although he offers Richardson practices off, the fullback rarely takes them. I asked Richardson about it and he said, “I don’t like sitting around doing nothing.” And that’s the type of commitment that has kept him in the league this long. Check out SNY’s Geico Sportsnite tonight and you can see more about these two players.
I also spoke with Mike Devito today. Devito is really living the dream of a lot of guys who picture themselves coming onto a team, making an impression and eventually earning a starting role. He’s done it.
Devito was signed in 2007 as an undrafted free agent. He played in only seven games that year. However, he has worked and worked, and this year he is considered a starter.
“I’m very grateful to this organization for giving me a chance to do that,” he said. “I’m becoming more comfortable with the defense and the more comfortable you are, the quicker things come to you.”
If you watch practice, you can see Devito working with both older and younger players. Yesterday, he and Shaun Ellis were in an intense conversation with Ellis showing Devito certain moves. Other days, you will see Devito turn and give advice to some of the younger players like Vernon Gholston or Ropati Pitoitua.
“The thing is to handle myself and help them out,” Devito said. “That was so big for me, getting help from the older players.”
More rain forecast for tomorrow. My rain boots got mixed reaction today. Hey, they keep my feet dry.

Thank you, Lisa, for your tweets defending Rex against the criticism based off his language use on Hard Knocks. The people making a big deal about this, have they ever been on the sideline during a game? What do they think goes on behind the closed doors of a locker room? Rex is a master motivator, so who is anyone to question his methods? It’s simple language and the average 6 year old didn’t hear anything new if he was watching Hard Knocks. Sorry, America, but they are just a few words.
I just don’t think “dagggg nabbit!” or “shucks!” will resonate with the players in today’s NFL. Call me crazy…

LT Probably just sprained something. He’s really motivated but he needs to slow down for the season it looks like hes tryna prove people wrong in camp lol
