Play Like a Jet? McKnight’s the Exception to the Jets Most Important Rule

by Bassett on September 3rd, 2010 at 8:56 am

For those who listen to Rex’s press conferences, his speeches in Hard Knocks, he doesn’t have a lot of rules.  One of his few sacrosanct rules?

Play Like A Jet.

What is Playing Like A Jet?  It’s rarely explained, but we can intuit it’s some sort of mixture of toughness, passion, determination, confidence, execution, fun and of course … the g–damn snacks. (NSFW)

Lets’ face it.  Joe McKnight is freaking awful so far.  Does he embody those characteristics above?  Doesn’t look like it to me.

But does he have potential?  Damned if I know.  Does he show an earnest effort to improve his game?  Not that I’ve been able to discern.

While Leon Washington struggled the summer of his rookie year, running lap after lap during training camp, the difference was that you could still see a spark … a decisive burst through the hole to daylight, a certain cocksure swagger,  pure speed on a wheel route in practice …

From what I’ve seen in the preseason I’ve not seen the spark.  I saw tiptoeing to the sideline.  I saw an unwillingness to hit the hole.  I saw background scenery.  I saw fumbles.  He never stood out, he never left an indelible impression of any kind on me, other than that he’s a waste of a roster spot.

Is that Playing Like A Jet?  Maybe I’ve gotten the definition wrong.  Here’s what Rex Ryan said about McKnight last night after the game.

He’s going to make the team,” Ryan said. “But we’re not going to play him until we have more confidence in him.”

McKnight and the rookie fullback John Conner lost first-half fumbles that were returned for touchdowns by Eagles safety Kurt Coleman … McKnight, a fourth-round pick from Southern California, lost fumbles in the last three preseason games and described his preseason as “horrible.”

Over the course of the preseason, McKnight ran the ball 38 times (against backups and roster fodder) for a total of 103 (2.7 YPC) with a long run of 11 yards NO TDs and THREE fumbles.  McKnight’s gains of less than two yards has grossly outnumbered his carries of more than five yards on a 12.6% fumble rate … this is against NFL backups … that’s pathetic.

The injustice of this?  This guy is going to make the active roster.  Rex even said it himself last night!  After proving nothing other than one nice punt return during the whole time from rookie minis ‘til now … this kid is going to beat out some guys who actually give a damn and play like they give a damn: Chauncey Washington and Danny Woodhead specifically.  These are guys that might not have been drafted this year by the team, but they both Play Like A Jet.

Let’s recap a little of what we know to date about McKnight so far:

  • Was (allegedly) illegally recruited by Reggie Bush to USC (AKA McBribery U).
  • (Allegedly) took a car for free from a booster.  A clear violation of collegiate rules.
  • Jets front office asked Sanchez about McKnight and if he was someone he’d go to war with … Sanchez gave him his endorsement.
  • McKnight showed up to rookie minis sadly out of shape, puking all over the place.
  • From a report I heard, McKnight got chippy with the press during OTAs after his puking incident, though it wasn’t really reported out of courtesy by the reporter.
  • At the start of training camp, McKnight is sidelined again for a “non football injury” list designation. Translation:  he’s out of shape again.
  • Based on what we see during Hard Knocks, McKnight seems lackadaisical in practice and routinely makes mistake after mistake.
  • McKnight loses a fumble in the CAR game leading to a FG for the Panthers.
  • McKnight has one good punt return in the fourth quarter (scrub central) of a preseason game.
  • McKnight fumbles again in Redskins game.
  • In his “do or die” game four of the preseason, he fumbles a ball for his THIRD TIME … a play that goes in for a touchdown for the Eagles of his mistake.

There’s a difference between patience and bad drafting.  McKnight was the culmination of bad drafting.  Every team gets one wrong now and again, it happens.  I know that he’ll be on the roster, so there’s nothing I can do other than hope he comes around, but I just don’t see it and don’t think we ever will.  Cut him now Jets, it will save you cutting him later.

And missing out on guys that actually Play Like A Jet.

That sack last night really disappointed me. I was hoping he would put up some reasonable numbers. But now, well, I’m just hoping that he works hard this season, so that he is allowed a chance to play NEXT season. Those fumbles are mind blowing. 3 in 4 games on limited touches? A fumble is worth around -50 yards, so I suspectc his true productivity is around 0 yards per touch.

Do you think Connor will get a chance to rush once in a while, like on 3rd and 1? This helps protect Green from injury also. Bummer about his fumble. :-(

    • G’Night basically cost us a 4th, a 6th and Leon.

Does anybody recall what his rook contract guarantees?

For all the McKnight supporters out there, it’s not the fumbles that shout the loudest. Yes, everyone is right about that — rookies fumble, then learn how to handle the ball in the NFL. I’m not concerned about that.

I’ve watched him since camp because of the weird puking/out-of-shape nonsense while the USC scandal stories swirled about. And, yes, Carroll passing on him did catch my eye. So, I paid extra attention to him in games. Up to and through last night, he’s still pussyfooting to the line, juking 3,4 times before he ever gets there, as if he thinks he’s still that HS stud who will astonish and amaze the dweebs across the line from him. Here in the NFL, where almost every camp cut was a former BMOC, they wait until he’s done dancing, then simply belt him in the head and throw his butt on the ground. And rip the ball out more often than not. The word will most likely be out in the league now, too — he’s a strip magnet.

This is one Jet that crashed. Now, they’re stuck trying to figure out if there’s any hope of picking up the pieces.

Perhaps it’s G’Night that they should have tied to the goalposts… and left him there until he grew up.

    >>McKnight was the culmination of bad drafting. Every team gets one wrong now and again,

I think its too early to write him off. Plus he is only a 4th round pick, not a 2nd round pick.

On the other hand, if he was an UDFA, he would not be on the team. The Jets are giving him extra chances because they paid a lot for him. Same with Jamarcus Russel. If he was a UDFA the Raiders would not have stuck with him for as long as they did. Once a price is paid, the buyer (team) tends to stick with the player longer than if they got him for nothing.

Too bad he takes up a spot that a more deserving player should have.

    • avatar charleyjet says:

I told you before the first pre-season game this guy would be a bust. There was a good reason Pete Carroll passed him by in the draft and signed Leon Washington. Carroll knew McKnight has no heart. On merit McKnight would be a cut but since they don’t like to admit draft mistakes (see Gholston) he will hang around but never dress. He will never play for the Jets.

Chauncey Washington has clearly made the case that he is the number 3 RB.

      • avatar Brendan says:

Gholston is actually an example of giving young NFL rookies ample time to mature.

        • avatar charleyjet says:

Wake me up when he gets a sack. He played most of the game last night. Had a pressure or two against back-ups, no tackles that I saw. If you are claiming some credit for Gholston you are way pre-mature.

          • avatar aidanG says:

hey he got the sack that ended the game. and was matured enough to know not to rush vick or he would get beat. hes doing much better. he cant play a 3-4 though

      • Funny you mention Gholston I remember people saying he will never play hard (Like A Jet) now hes a main piece to our D-Line.
Give Money Mcknight time. Besides the fumbles he has done the same as Woodhead and Washington.

        • avatar Todd says:

Please…at least Gholston showed up in shape. Vernon “The Ghost” Gholston is a huge bust and has done NOTHING on the field to date. The sad part is…McKnight is going to be an even bigger joke. We should just be happy we didn’t take him in the first round. Package these guys together and trade them to Mangini for Drew Carey.

      • avatar MM says:

Pete Carroll is a recruiter not a coach. We learned that the hard way.

The fact that he passed on McKnight says more about Pete than Joe.

Pete Carroll is no Rex Ryan.

  3. avatar runleon29 says:

    bravo, bassett. very well written.
this underachieving mouth-breather seems lacks the passion and the heart to overcome his apparent lack of talent.

  4. wow a whole article killing Money Mcknight. Conner fumbled to but no one is riding him. Besides the Fumble his Stas were identical to Washington but everyone is calling for Mcknight’s head.
It doesn’t make sense to me when Mcknight runs hard he is good. Rex barely even gave him a chance last night after the fumble its preseason your supposed to be seeing how good your players are winning the game takes a backseat to that. Woodhead got every carry after that.
When its said and done Mcknight will be better than Woodhead or Washington.

    • avatar Brendan says:

Jets fans need someone to bash, at all times.

    • avatar Bassett says:

      GL-

Conner fumbled on a freak play, he’s also shown over the course of four months why he deserves a roster spot. They Jets aren’t going to let him carry the ball more than 10 times during the season, it was just one of those “won’t if be fun if we get him to run the ball?” things, nothing more, much like Mulligan’s catch last year.

McKnight might have speed, but he has no head or desire for this game to get better as far as anyone can tell. Rookies generally fumble a lot but … fumbling at a 12% rate in the NFL against backups? That’s criminal. Imagine if he was carrying the ball against the Ravens first stringers on MNF, it’d be stripped every time.

Why would you give the ball back to him? Coaches routinely punish running backs when they fumble the ball … this isn’t like some new punishment that Rex has invented. This happens all the time.

Talent wise you are right, he’s got a better 40, better metrics, but his “heart to head” metrics are abysmal. I don’t think much of Danny Woodhead as a NFL RB, but he’s got more ability right now than this guy. McKnight he’s shown me NOTHING to prove he can play at this level. I pray that I am 100% wrong.

      • avatar Brendan says:

McKnight also fumbled on a freak play.

        • avatar zenlaw says:

Santonio Holmes has also fumbled twice this pre-season. Should the Jets dump him?

          • avatar zep says:

are we going to mention every player who has made a mistake and compare it to mcknight??

holmes is a little more proven than mcknight nice try though..

          • avatar Brendan says:

No, but the point is that everyone on offense, for the most part, has been playing poorly. But people choose McKnight as the scapegoat.

          • avatar SackDance99 says:

How about my favorite whipping boy, Kellen Clemens? He was totally outplayed by Brunell. But, more disturbingly, his problems as a QB are persistent. A tendency to rabbit in the face of pressure and his penchant for having passes batted down at the LOS were on full display, again. Bassett, you’ve seen this since his rookie year, as I have and any Jets fan has seen. Yet, KC gets a free pass for all of his transgressions. I really couldn’t believe that folks were killing Brunell, an actual veteran that knows how to play QB in the NFL, and saying KC deserved to be the no. 2. Incredible. Rex and Tanny had it right. He had to take a pay cut to attempt to prove that he is a bona fide no. 3 QB in the NFL. Guys like KC, who the Jets traded up to get in the 2nd round, and Gholston are proof positive that teams give draft picks a long time, maybe too long in some cases, to prove their worth.
This brings us to McKnight. There’s no denying his skills, but he has to learn how to “play like a Jet.” The fumbles are unacceptable, but rookies tend to fumble a lot. Remember Tiki Barber’s problems? McKnight has to learn to trust his blockers and run hard into the hole and better ball security. These things can be learned. KC hasn’t shown that he can stay in the pocket or create passing lanes so his passes aren’t tipped or batted down. KC has ample time to learn not to do these things, but we’re ready to cut McKnight? Just ludicrous in my book.

      • avatar WW85 says:

Great post Bassett. Heart to head metrics was his problem at USC & continues.

      • I only mentioned the Conner fumble to say everyone has fumbled but everyone only remembers Mcknight. For some reason you all look at Money Mcknight under a telescope and I don’t know why.
He deserves to be deactivated until he proves the Jets wrong (ala Gholston) don’t get me wrong but to me it seems like they are punishing Mcknight more than they would anyone else.
This is football its a mans sport so I like how Mcknight took what rex said as motivation but disrespect is disrespect and Rex basically saying we are only keeping you because we drafted you is disrespectful. Especially when he has done the same as the other backup HB’s.

      • avatar Bent says:

Bassett – I’d like to think that Conner will actually get a few carries a game. Maybe not this year, as he splits time with Richardson, but I thought he looked pretty good carrying the ball in short yardage situations.

Conner handled the ball as much as LeRon McClain did in college and Rex saw the benefits of giving him the ball first hand.

The fumble didn’t bother me, because the ground can only cause a fumble if you go down without being touched by a defender. How many times does that happen? Hardly ever.

    • avatar Led says:

McNight was outplayed by Washington. I’m not going to make a snap judgment about the guy’s career, but on the merits of their play Washington deserves to be on the team over McNight. McNight will get the nod becuase the team invested in him and because he has potential. But potential means you ain’t done it yet.

    • Pretty sure he kept him out after the fumble because he wanted to win the game (same reason Clemens came out after the sack). Rex knows Washington will hold onto the ball and get the tough yards instead of dancing around holding the ball in one arm. Kid needs to wake up and see what works in this league: not high stepping hot dogs, hard workers willing to swallow their pride and PLAY LIKE A JET.

    • avatar kleckofan says:

When he runs hard? What? I’ve yet to see that!

  5. avatar WW85 says:

I liked the pick & now regret it. He’s a head case. I’d rather give the spot to someone hungry & tough. But reality is that he’s staying—He should get the ball in practice & get pounded until he can hold onto it.

  6. avatar JayM says:

Just think MrT traded up to get him. What a mistake, well you hit some and miss some. McKnight is a big miss

  7. avatar Brad says:

Chauncey and Joe should make the team. There is really no reason to carry 4 tight ends, especially because Hunter will probably play more at TE than Mulligan and Cumberland.

McKnight has upside, Chauncey at this point is more reliable.

I don’t get why people like Woodhead. People look at him and see what they wish he was, not what he actually is.

    • avatar R in CT says:

I agree about Woodhead. Yeah, he had a touchdown — while literally hanging onto Davis the whole way.

Most times, I see a guy with no real burst or quickness, and who goes down very easily. He’s not fast (like Willie Parker), he’s not elusive (say like Leon was) and he can’t knock people over (like a Jones-Drew).

Again, I love everything else about the guy, the between-the-ears skills, the motor, the will, etc., but he does NOT have enough physical skills to be a productive NFL running back, no matter how much he and many Jets fans want it.

      • R-

Look at the TD clip again. Davis wasn’t doing Danny any favors. In fact, he was in Danny’s way.

Woodman was not holding onto Davis. There was no one for Davis to hit, so he slowed down which caused Woodhead to slow down, throwing his balance off. If he didn’t grab Davis’ shirt for balance Davis would have been credited with the tackle of Woodhead at the 2 or 3 yd. line.

YAHOO SPORTS PAY ME OR I WONT PLAT FOR THE JETS on REVIS

  9. avatar JayM says:

“I’ve got to earn their trust back,” said McKnight, who gained 34 yards on nine carries. “If I get the call to come back Monday, I’ve got to work hard.”

    MONDAY??????????????????

    ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

They should cut him for that dumb ass statement

  10. avatar Max V.V. says:

The funny thing is, you know who did play like a Jet? Thomas Jones. Whatever happened to him?

  11. avatar Bent says:

McKnight had some good runs over the course of the four games and looked very comfortable catching punts, which is more than could ever be said for Leon Washington, Dwight Lowery or Justin Miller (to name three).

However, I wouldn’t let him play either until I trusted him.

And they said Shonn Greene had a fumbling problem.

He has enough upside that it’s not outside the realms of plausibility that a team might offer a mid-round pick for him. If that happens, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them cut their losses.

  12. avatar bob says:

    YAHOO SPORTS ON REVIS?

  13. avatar Crackback says:

Cmon guy. They’re trying to teach the kid how to run inside. He’s out of his comfort zone. Let him settle down a bit. I’d much rather him get his fumbles in now than during the regular season (remember Greene’s issues last year?). And lets not forget that Woodhead and Washington have been around for a while. Theyre more comfortable with the system and the zone-blocking scheme.

McKnight is adjusting to a lot. NFL level competition, new team, new scheme, new style of running… He’ll be fine during the regular season when they use him in situations that take advantage of his strength, mainly in space.

Where’s the Sanchez tirade? If you’re going to drivethe truck over somebody, thats the guy to do it to. There’s absolutely no excuse for his abysmal performances.

    • avatar Led says:

Sanchez has underperformed this preseason but he did play well in the playoffs plus they’re committed to him. What’s the alternative? Brunell’s corpse or Clemens? Washington on the other hand is young and a perfectly fine 3rd string RB.

  14. let me get this straight, fumbling + puking = no heart/desire?

    riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight

  15. avatar deuce4417 says:

facts are facts. you all still feel more comforable keeping him on the active roster than woodhead? a fumble is a fumble. dude has showed nothing. you’ve at least got to show heart if nothing else. if he is getting into it with reporters and pouting what is he gonna do when they get on him for something in the regular season? tag him as a project player now and hope for the best. i say go into the war with green, LT, woodhead, C. washington

  16. avatar steviek says:

There’s alot that goes into drafting a player. Years of game film, scouting, research, interviews, etc. I don’t think you give up on a guy based on a bad training camp. You will always be wrong on some guys, but unless you say he doesnt have the physical skills to compete, you have to wait a little for the guy to come around. If you dont, there’s something wrong in your evaluation process.
Hey, in roto, do you cut a guy you drafted after a few bad weeks? No, you trust your judgment. What we’ve seen of McKnight is just part of the book the Jets have on him.
The issue is that Chauncey Washington has clearly outplayed him and seems to have much more value right now. Hopefully, they find a way to keep Washington.

  17. avatar Marc says:

    great article bassett

  18. avatar LCG says:

very well said, sir. every time i see c-wash run the ball, it pisses me off that we’re “rewarding” McKnight’s nonsense…even though, yes, i get the other factors…crap

  19. avatar Ralf57 says:

Run your team like a JET

Admit you mistake and move on

Your penny pinching over Revis money.

You gave ex-jet coach, ex USC coach, sleaze bag Carrol Leon Washington (who always played like a jet) and he gave us Mcfumbles Mcloser.

Admit your mistake and act like a Jet

    • avatar Brendan says:

….We gave Carroll a RB who wanted a new contract (an expensive one).

How is arguing over FORTY MILLION DOLLARS pinching pennies? That’s a ton of pinching.

  20. avatar Derek says:

Can they put him on the practice squad and give his spot to someone else?

Also he runs really tall, too upright, I guess you can change that with coaching?

  21. avatar Mr Blint says:

McKnight should get more of a chance. However, not much more. All the comparative examples provided so far are flawed. All the other players showed something to the coaches – plus they worked hard and took the coaching… Mcknight has also shown flashes – basically on kick returns… so I think he should be given a chance. However, when I see him on hard knocks he almost looks stoned. In practice his reaction to the coaching is bizarre. I actually think if he was sassing the coaches like Jackson – it would at least show some inner fire… but he just looks stoned. I don’t see alot of potential as a running back – he seems like Reggie Bush light. But maybe Rex can unlock the key to this kid. Looks like he did it with Gholston But then again, Gholston appeared to have showed up in better shape and worked reasonably hard. I’m afraid in the next few years he will be remembered for the downright weird shot of him on the sidelines after his big punt return where he was bent over looking like he was about to puke..

  22. avatar zenlaw says:

No biggie if the Jets blew a 4th rounder on him (even though they traded up to get him). Misses happen. The FO can’t be perfect. For the most parts, the Jets drafting in the last few years has been amazing. We have nothing to complain about.

This Washington guy looks fantastic though. The only harm with the McKnight pick is if the Jets are forced to part ways with Washington, just to keep one of their draft picks on the roster.

  23. avatar AKA Jack says:

I’m not going to be happy if Washington does not make this team. He has earned it both by his play and his attitude.

Play like a Jet means nothing if you don’t reward the guys who play like a Jet.

  24. Thats Exactly my point everybody has been fumbling like hell this preseason but for some reason when McKnight does it he gets benched and doesn’t get a chance to redeem himself. Woodhead got every carry after that.

  25. avatar starz31 says:

He’s horrible now, but damn, let’s give the kid sometime. He’s getting put into his place and he will learn how to be a professional. It’s a shame it has to come to that but the reality of the situation is that he is being paid good money to be the 3rd/4th RB, is young, and does have the talent be an NFL RB. The question will be can he put it all together to be successful. That has not be resolved yet and very much remains to be seen. Until then, he gets benched until he shows up. You gotta give him some time though.

  26. avatar John C says:

I wonder if any of this is related to being on hard knocks. Maybe the spotlight and getting roasted by the rb coach in front of the nation is discouraging for him

  27. avatar MM says:

As an SC fan, I’ve had several years already of watch McKnight. A lot of people have already said this, but he is a guy who is so freakishly gifted at playing football that he never had to work hard. Instead, he has an attitude about how he should be treated and respected. While at SC he never really put the effort in to be great and took many shortcuts, especially off the field.

When the jets traded up to take him it was a calculated risk based on the fact that Pete carroll is not Rex Ryan. If he won’t work hard for Rex and co. then he will never put it all together.

As fans we need to give him time. If he can show some humility, put the time needed in the gym and learn the ropes of what it take to be an NFL player, McKnight could be great.

  28. avatar Private Jet says:

Off with his head already! I WANT BLOOD!!!!

  29. avatar juunit says:

People really need to stop calling McDonald$ the scapegoat. He isn’t, he just sucks. It isn’t just his lack of production and the abnormal number of fumbles. It’s the being out of shape, it’s the looking horrible on every run. It isn’t just that he isn’t getting yardage, he’s running like he will never get yardage. He’s a rookie, he’s young. This is exactly when he should have as much explosiveness as he’ll ever have, and he’s showing absolutely none. That is not going to improve with age, it’s going to decline. Get over it already, 100% of the players cannot be successes. And McDonald$ is one of those players that is a failure.

  30. avatar Crackback says:

Judging a player based on what you see on Hard Knocks is like judging a boxer based on what you see on “The Contender.”

  31. avatar Joe says:

SC players are all soft. Sanchize better prove me wrong.

  32. avatar WOJF says:

If I could only keep two of the three backs, I would cut Woodhead.

Chauncy has to make this team, if one of the top two go down he is the best option to fill in, now.

McKnight gets the second spot over Woodhead because of his upside, gets a one year mulligan to figure things out. I hated the draft pick, and hate his performance even more, but now that he is here they have to give him a full shot.

Woodhead is the Brooks Bollinger of running backs, nice story, but he will never be a full time NFL player and has the least upside, he should go make a career in the CFL.

  33. avatar WOJF says:

PS – Ducasse has been even worse than McKnight, but he is getting a mulligan as he should.

  34. avatar WOJF says:

Where would the Yankees be if they cut Cano when he was not “playing like a Yankee”?

  35. avatar SackDance99 says:

    Joe,

Polamalu, Tatupu, Cushing, Rivers, Palmer, Maualuga, Fred Davis, Kalil, Cassell, Steve Smith (NYG) and Chauncey Washington are soft?

  36. on McNight.. that’ll be the last time the FO listens to Sanchez “vouching” for someone..
He won’t be a Jet for long.. Put him on the Practice Squad, play Chauncy, cause he’s a poor-man’s Shonn Greene.. Gotta love Chauncy!!

  37. avatar kleckofan says:

There’s a quote that goes something like, “we judge ourselves by our intentions, others judge us by our actions”. I don’t know that questioning someone’s “heart” is feasible, but McK’s actions are horrible. He runs scared, seeks contact in order to go down w/o a true shot being made, fumbles and has a poor attitude towards being coached. Play like a Jet? Not. Cut bait now.

  38. avatar Tos9987 says:

I like washington thay guy is a bruser we should keep him and woodhead . How can McNight not grip[ the ball tight running at the line and he cant find the hole either

  39. avatar Wolf says:

Brendan, would you rather see McKnight make the roster of Washington/Woody?

  40. avatar Andre D says:

I’ll admit he’s looked bad so far, but people are way too quick to label someone a failure. Rex and co will look to break this kid till he’s humbled, its not like we’re counting on him to be a main back in are running game. Give it a little time. No one has denied he doesn’t have the talent. It just hurts as fans, and a former HS football player, to see a guy with such talent not be able to take full advantage.

Have you ever though if u were that gifted with speed how you would apply it, man, those are some weapons to cut it up with. McKnight amplify your intesity. He always looks and sounds like he just woke up. Sometimes he looks like he’s falling asleep in the middle of a run, haha.

  41. avatar Tom in Raleigh says:

You can’t call McKnight a bust after 4 preseason games. Has he sucked? Yes. Is his career some sort of tragic disaster? No.

He’s got plenty of time, and has a much higher ceiling than does Woodhead.

If Gholston plays poorly again this year, he’s a bust and is probably not a Jet next year. If he plays well, the pick used on him is salvaged.

McKnight needs to get it together, but I am not terribly concerned if a 4th round pick is not yet quite ready to contribute.

  42. avatar Wesleywalker says:

Need I mention clarett. Mcfumble reminds me of him. Great potential. Remember Denver cut that bum 3rd round pick and moved on. We should do the same!

  43. avatar GREENBLOOD says:

Basset I’ve never comented on any of the articles you’ve wrote, nor any other. I only think that this line is going a bit far

“” McKnight was the culmination of bad drafting. Every team gets one wrong now and again, it happens. I know that he’ll be on the roster, so there’s nothing I can do other than hope he comes around, but I just don’t see it and don’t think we ever will. Cut him now Jets, it will save you cutting him later”"

Forgive me for the complaint, but such tone was never used, not in the idiotic regime of Mangina, nor a “gholston” pick.

As for the kid, let him see Greene and LT (more so) do it, he will itch to get in and explode. I’ve seen plenty of his USC games, 20+, and there is no doubt that he has it in him, just has to pull it out.
