With roster cuts due tomorrow, reports are already starting to trickle in about who the Jets are going to remove from their roster to make the 53 man requirement. We’ll keep an eye on Twitter and the reporters blogs today for you and make updates as we hear them here.
Be sure to check Daily News, the Star-Ledger for their updates. Rotoworld for league-wide news.
CONFIRMED
WR Larry Taylor – The Jets have cut the diminutive WR, losing out for the final WR spot to David Clowney and maybe moreso, Danny Woodhead.
FB Jason Davis – With Conner and Richardson there was just no room for the journeyman Jason Davis.
C Robby Felix – Waived by the Jets, Jenny Vrentas could see him making the practice squad.
S Keith Fitzhugh – Was an UDFA from 2009 who was with the Jets last summer and who the team brought back just a few weeks ago.
LB Tim Knicky – Signed during camp with the Jets. Knicky was a former DE at Stephen F. Austin and might be someone who the Jets revisit at some point.
DB Emmanuel Cook – Like Fitzhugh, he’s another UDFA defensive back from 2009 who got a callback from the Jets. Even with his interception last night, he was unable to secure a roster spot.
LB Brashton Satele – Had some injury setbacks, but thanks to Mike Westhoff, he’s now free to open his “pizza stand” in the Bronx. We wish the flyin’ Hawaiian well.
DL Ty Steinkuhler – The Jets have been carrying Stein on and off since last year’s UDFA class. This probably means that Kroul is a lock on the initial squad, but that the team might still sift through the waiver wire to see if they can find someone else’s garbage to add to their defensive line rotation.
DL Jason Lamb – Via Steiny, this was announced on Twitter via his cousin. Lamb looked good this spring, but was unable to find a spot on the final roster this summer.
LB Rickey Foley – The OLB whom the Jets just signed in the past week from the CFL did not make the active roster for the Jets.
DT Martin Tevaseu, LB Boris Lee OL Chet Teofilo have also been cut.
UNCONFIRMED
DB Donovan Warren –A pickup that was lauded by the Jets as he went undrafted out of Michigan – Warren was unable to contribute much, as a concussion sidelined him during much camp, according to Rex’s postgame presser.
LB Joshua Mauga – The former Nevada player had concussion issues as well, and will not make the final roster, according to Rex’s postgame presser.
CB Brian Jackson – King Ugly – the guy who got all uppity indifferent with Dennis Thurman has not made the active roster according to our own Lisa Zimmerman.
BUBBLING
TE Jeff Cumberland has been confirmed to make the final roster via TheJetStream, and Chauncey Washington seemingly has not been informed yet of his fate.

Why? Folk has been very good this preseason.
-
I was always under impression that who ever didnt win the Texans kicking battle would be our kicker unless Nick Folk had an awesome pre-season. Folk was until he missed the extra point. But I guess your right no need for him.
-
Yes, he’s definitely shut me up. Though I’m still not 100% convinced yet. He’s got to do it during the regular season, with real pressure on, and I know it isn’t a huge deal but I can’t get the missed extra point out of my mind. But for now, the kicking situation is just that, in the back of my mind.
-
Just like Revis is going to shut you up when the Jets go 0-2, sign him to save the season and he comes back and makes them the #1 defense again
-
-
-
-
Jeez, the Terminator makes it easy on the coaching staff. He pretty much is responsible for cutting Davis and Mauga.
-
haha
-
-
i liked larry taylor…but oh well what are you going to do..
and i hope keeping woodhead doesnt eliminate chauncy washington from the picture..i like this kid..
-
Would much rather have Taylor than Clowney. Enough already with that F’ing guy.
-
yea i am so sick of clowney and his act..i feel like he is always smirking in the meetings on hardknocks or always making an excuse
-
-
-
yeah. After what I’ve seen from Taylor I would’ve much rather seen him on the team. Also, I would take Chauncey over McKnight – but that may not happen either.
-
good luck to jason davis he was in a real unfortunate situation here, i’d like to see who he gets picked up by.
-
I thought Davis should’ve gotten credit for the Woodhead TD last night as Danny literally held onto to his jersey and got dragged to the endzone.
Davis is an underrated player who will be on an NFL roster, no doubt.
-
-
any chance cook makes the roster?
-
S Emanuel Cook and LB Brashton Satele waived

Given Practice Squad rules, is there any reason why McKnight can’t be put there and have Washington on the active roster? I know this sounds drastic but who is the better player at this point? Maybe it might shake McK up a bit.
Another thought…..what’s with the drafft picks coming out of USC…..”The concern is that too many of the players who emerge from the Trojan program love the SoCal lifestyle more than they love football.Though it’s always dangerous to generalize (but what the hell, we’ll do it anyway), there have been a surprising number of busts to emerge from Pete Carroll’s no-pay (by the school) paradise.
In 2003, the Trojans sent a trio of solid players into the league: Carson Palmer, Troy Polamalu, and Justin Fargas. Since then, however, the only guy who has proven to be a consistent high-end talent is linebacker Lofa Tatupu. The growing parade of busts includes Keary Colbert, Shaun Cody, Mike Patterson, Mike Williams, Darnell Bing, Dominique Byrd, Frostee Rucker, Winston Justice, Reggie Bush (relative to his draft status and hype), Dwayne Jarrett and Matt Leinart.” Should we add McK???
-
He won’t last on the Practice Squad. Some other team will claim him based on his potential, but sure I guess he’s PS eligible.
-
Justin Fargas isn’t that great and i believe just got cut from Oakland.
Also I’ll add Lawrence Jackson as a first round bust to your list.
On a plus side Terrell Thomas has been solid for the Giants and last year rookies Brian Cushing (minus the PED coverup) and Clay Matthews look legit. The jury is out on Rey Maualuga, but he doesn’t look like a 3 down LB in the NFL
-
Just search for USC under http://espn.go.com/nfl/college/_/letter/u
I don’t think its fair to say USC has produced so many busts when they produced many great players in the NFL as well.
-
-
Practice squad players can be signed off other teams without compensation to the club. If they’re keeping McKnight on potential, they might not want to risk it. also, Rex said McKnight is making the club.
Personally, I think Chauncey Washington makes it also and he’ll stay on the roster for a few weeks at least until they decide what to do. With Revis and Holmes slots free, they have a little flexibility.
-
you could throw sanchez in their bc we truely dont know whats going to happen
-
nm basset beat me two it but yeah throw him in the mix.
-
-
Polamalu is not a high-end talent? Would love to have his untalented a** on my team.
-
whoops, kinda mis-read that.
-
-
JW12: I agree to the extent that USC players are over hyped relative to their talent. I don’t consider Palmer a bust. He’s a good QB, but he’s not the Joe Montana he was touted as. Mark Sanchez also has shown very little. He’s toward the bottom of the league in most objective stats, though he has great upside.
At the same time, how many super hyped players from any program live up to their billing?
I’d like to see what program produces the most bang for buck. What school sends out players that are not highly touted but turn into rock solid NFLers? Not sure the answer to that?
-
-
MS can be placed in “pending status” for USC products. I like the guy and expect him to make a big impact but he hasn’t fully solidified anything yet.
-
Anyone know the status of Cory Reamer?
-
Im on edge to see if Chauncey Washington makes this team. He definitely fits Rex’s description of “Playing like a Jet.”
-
USC is a high profile program, so it’s draft busts are maximized. But, Polamalu, Tatupu, Keith Rivers, Steve Smith (NYG) and Palmer are all upper echelon NFL players. I think Maualuga was the big difference maker in the Bengals’ defense, Cushing (if he is off PEDs) might become a regular pro bowler, and Clay Matthews looks like the real deal, too. Fred Davis is pushing Cooley at TE in Washington and Ryan Kalil is one of the NFL’s best centers, he anchors a top notch running game in Carolina. Leinart has been in Whisenhut’s doghouse despite clearly out-playing Anderson. He’s a classic case of an HC or FO change costing a young QB…it happens all the time…like to Brees in San Diego. I think Leinart will eventually make it in the NFL. Bush is what he is a versatile offensive player that is good, but will never match his hype. And, I’m real curious about how Mike Williams will do in Seattle now that’s he’s back with Carroll. If Sanchez pans out, along with the last year’s corps of LBs, the USC draft record under Carroll improves dramatically. And, if Leinart ever pans out along with Sanchez, producing 3 NFL QBs in less that a decade is uber-impressive.
-
I did not want to make my comment biased toward USC…….more for having Washington make the club. Let us not forget that he is also a USC product. I am sure that there are plenty of other colleges that have their reputation tarnished by NFL busts.
-
FYI Martin Tevaseau? has also been cut but might make practice squad
-
Also, per Jenny Vrentas:
LB Boris Lee, an undrafted rookie free agent out of Troy, and OL Chet Teofilo, an undrafted rookie free agent out of Cal, were both waived.
-
Disappointed that Clowney made it over Taylor. All Taylor needed to do was break one…on a return. But, he didn’t. Still…he made 2 first downs last night after receptions with that quick cutting ability…that were impressive. But, again..the big runback to nail his spot down never happened…and those impressive highlight plays from the Canadian League weren’t enough.
So will it be Brad Smith on KO returns?
-
feel kind of bad for davis, did everything right he was just in an impossible situation. i am sure he will hook on with someone, hopefully not in the AFC east
-
Losing Donny Warren would be a crushing blow in itself.
I say, keep ‘em!!! He’s got the potential to be our future safety! Let ‘em hand with McKnight on the Practice Squad.
With the speed, athleticism of McNight, Warren, they not only have the potential to contribute down the road as a starter; yet, can have immediate impact imitating guys like Wes Welker in scrub offense scenaios.
-
Leonhard, Pool, E Smith and Ihedigbo are all pretty young. No need really…
-
-
I hope they find a place for Chauncey Washington on the roster, especially since it looks like Mcknight wont dress for the foreseeable future
-
When do we find out who makes the practice squad? I’m really hoping Taylor makes it because he really has the ability to make people miss. He could definitely be needed down the stretch this season if an injury pops up.
-
McKnight is a wasted roster spot.
-
http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/09/jets_begin_trimming_roster_fin.html
Jenny Vrentas has the running roster up. I think the last spot is between Washington and Reamer.
-
Such a pity that MCknight steals a spot from one of these “play like a jet” guys.
-
Wish Emmanuel Cook could’ve landed a spot.
-
Saints just cut Bobby McCray. Might be a good pickup to replace Ripoti.
-
I think the Brian Jackson cut is a bad move. He looked like he has potential. I hope they get him on the practice squad.
-
mcknight was a jets relapsed draft pick of old….
washington and woodhead are enough in the backfield – i am really pissed that he is being kept on the team. Kinda goes against what Rex stands for and I wish he just stepped up, chalked up a horrible draft choice to history -and cut the lazy piece of ****
-
How is Jackson not better than Coleman(guaranteed contract) or Cole ? I don’t get it. If Washington doesn’t make the team ground & pound is dead to me.
-
He is probably raw and doesn’t know the defense as well. I think he will definitely make the practice squad.
-
Lol, Coleman is raw and doesn’t know the playbook.. But I get your point.
-
-
If Washington makes the team he probably would be inactive anyway. No effect on ground & pound
-
But McNight is gonna be inactive so I think Washington would play.
-
If he made the team he would still be one of 5 RBs, 2 of which would almost certainly be inactive every week.
-
One of 5 HBs, and one of 7 FBs.
-
-
-
Be good to have C. Washington as a backup to Greene- incase greene goes down with injury. He is the only other power running back on the team. Agree, he will probably be inactive, but if Greene goes down- u know we have another bruiser to beat up the other teams D and that will make LT life that much easier.
-
-
-
Woodhead supportes have given him and wii give him years to prove himself but won’t give McNight more than 4 pre-season games .. That honestly makes me dislike some people on this site but whatever.
-
compare Woodhead’s first 4 pre-season games last year, to McKnights first 4 this year…
-
Seriously ? Just stop. I don’t dislike Woodhead, it’s just that you guys treat Jim like your son, constantly giving him the benefit of the doubt, it’s comical.
-
*him
-
I agree, you don’t give up on a guy with his potential after a bad camp. If he still sucks next year at this time, maybe you cut him.
-
I can agree with that. The guy is thinking too much, he should get better.
-
actually woodhead came to camp when mangina was still the head coach, get your facts straight people
-
-
I won’t speak for anyone else but the difference to me is work ethic. Woodhead won my heart with the amount of intensity he plays with. The guy has alot of heart and anything less than 100% effort every day would have stopped his career long ago.
I don’t care about McKnights fumbles or throwing up at camp or his yards per carry in the first 4 preseason games.
What I care about is him not passing the conditioning test months after he knew he was out of shape from throwing up at rookie camp. What I care about is the way he tip toes with no heart when carrying the ball. There seems to be a lack of effort in everything he does and hard knocks footage only backs up what we see on the field and what Rex says of him.
-
-
-
Listen, i’m not a woodhead lover (sounds gay), but if he played/behaved the way Mcnight did in his first camp he would have been long freakin gone.
-
How has he behaved? Lol… Yea the the fumbles are bad but the that can be fixed. Like always Woodhead supporter tries to build him up by tearing down Joe Money.
The Ghost was trash for two seasons and we finally believe in him. Joe Mone has played 4 pre-season games & he’s the worst RB ever. Lmao
Long Live Joe Money
-
-
-
I really feel bad for Donovan Warren, as a Michigan fan I was really looking forward to having him on this team. He was suffering from a concussion all pre-season and really didn’t get an opportunity to make this team because of that. I really think that if Warren got a chance to play in pre-season, he would have proved that he can contribute on nickel and dime packages, heck even as a safety. I’m also glad Cumberland made the team, I really like what I’ve seen out of him. He can be a poor man’s Jermichael Finley, the kid can fly. I liked what I saw out of Larry Taylor but Clowney is making it over him, oh well.
-
McCary would be an OLB on our defense. He weighs 260.

C. Washington
D. Clowney
D. Woodhead
M. Kroul
M. Cole
R. Foley
M. Turkovich
L. Taylor
T. Steinkuhler
B. Jackson
B. SateleAgain, there is the chance the Jets will sign L Coles,, and/or A Thomas after the first game, which means 2 of these guys will end up getting cut anyway.
-
Washington & Reamer both deserve to make the team over Mcknight & Woodhead. Washington is better than Woodhead substantially.
-
Reamer hasn’t done anything. Why does he deserve to make the roster?
-
Seriously, I don’t even think he played in a preseason game? I didn’t hear his name once…
-
-
-
Correction 53* Only 4*.
Looks like it will be Kroul, Washington, Woodhead & Clowney.
-
Brooks Foster makes final roster 53. Showed excellent skill on special team last night.
-
It looks like my list was 100% spot on so far. Not to tute my own horn.
-
I believe Chet Teofilo and Boris Lee were also waived.
-
I mam totally hoping Washington makes the team. If Greene gets nicked, Chauncey is the only RB that mirrors that rock em sock em style. Woodhead is more LT, yet less. Our starters at RB are great but we need decent backups and that’s Washington & Woodhead.
Amazing thing seen at Eagles game: Sanchez looking pensive, thoughtful, on the sideline rather than loopy. I think Rex’s experiment of having Mark call the plays turned the lights on. Instead of a kid playing a man’s game, he looked like a man playing a kid’s game—the way it’s supposed to be. By George! I think he’s got it!! Down & distance, move the chains, go for the moon. Let’s see. Calling the defensive plays made Lewis & Reed better players, let’s see if it helops Mark.
-
I like Washington too, but 5 RBs, 2 FBs, and 4 TEs is insane.
-
5 RBs, 2 FBs, and 4 TEs makes sense IMO considering what type of offense the Jets run…
-
Yeah but remember the Jets led the league in rushing while really using two RBs (because Greene didn’t play until Washington got hurt), one FB, and two TE’s for most of the year.
-
That makes it 2 backup RBs to Greene and LT, a backup FB who will play ST, 2 catching and 2 blocking TEs, and a RB who can be switched back and forth to WR…
-
-
-
-
-
Bobby Mcrcay and Damione Lewis got cut. 1 of them could pick up where Ropati left off
-
rodboone Still awaiting definitive word, but it appears David Clowney is safe .. for now. On his way with Gholston to film something for Hard Knocks
-
Any word on Lance Laury?
-
Woodhead over Chauncey would be a terrible mistake!
You think mr t is gonna cut his 4th round pick? No way a team doesn’t snag him if the jets try and place him on the practice squad!
-
If they watch the tape, no team would pick his lazy a$$ up.
-
-
I’d like to see Warren on the practice squad
-
How does everybody feel about gholston this preseason…..I think he will b solid
-
Need I mention clarett. Mcfumble reminds me of him. Great potential. Remember Denver cut that bum 3rd round pick and moved on. We should do the same! I think Washington and woodhead are role players and would contribute when called upon. Not stars but knowing their roles. It is an utter shame that another worthy player might be cut just because this guy was 4th round pick.
-
I just wouldnt understand how Cumberland could make the team right now over Washington. 4 TE’s and 2 FB’s over a potential 3rd running back doesnt exactly please me. I like Cumberland, but he seems more like a potential guy rather than Washington who seems to be able to make immediate impact. I know Woodhead looks good, but he has shown more talent as a slot receiver or a receiver coming out of the backfield (Multiple short, across the middle routes). Washington has been running hard and well and after that hit against the Panthers,he can clearly play some special teams.
-
Washington only had success against 2nd and third stringers. I don’t think he deserves a spot over Cumberland. Plus Washington is 4 years pro now while cumberland is a rookie so i’d rather have the rookie who they can either keep and have two awesome TE’s that can catch or trade him off for a decently high pick.
-
-
^Agree with Wesley Walker
-
I say keep Washington as a 3rd back over Mcknight. He wasn’t great at USC and I live in CA.
On a serious note. Is revis really done as jet??? This is getting scary and frankly annoying.
-
I am not worried about a Tailback playing ST…Conner will play ST probably. So will Clowney and Woodhead. We need Washington as the 3rd back NOT Mcknight.
-
Bobby Mccray for Dline depth anyone?
-
Stieny. Sounds about right. I think Washington will make the team over reamer. He will be primary backup to greene. Woodhead as LT backup… Reamer hopefully to PS.
-
Think we should keep Woodhead- RB/WR and Washinton. DL- If the team isnt impressed with any of the recently cut players from other teams, than keep Kroul. With Cotchery, Holmes, Edwards, Smith, and Versatile- Woodhead, dont know if we need Clowney. I rather have Coles for a yr or 2 as the #5 WR.
With the uncertainty of Revis- think we got to keep Cole too. I like what i see out of him- dont know why we guaranteed Coleman’s contract for 800K, but being cheap everywhere else. Rather have Cole than Coleman!-
We did it to lower his salary this year i believe. Kind of like the clemens deal. But i’d rather Cole or Brian Jackson over coleman. can’t really stand Coleman.

On Gang Green Nation, Revi’s Grandma chimes in saying,
“Darrelle does what he does because he loves it,” she said, sitting at her dining-room table. “For this to be happening to him, it’s almost like a slap in the face, because he’s not appreciated.”
….
“If he does,” Gilbert said of sitting out the season, “it won’t be because of Sean. It’ll be because the Jets don’t give him a decent contract.”
Can you believe that?
Greed runs in that family, and is Revis using his grandma to do his talking? Let him sit. Maybe granny can get him some cookies and milk.
Eff him!
-
*Revis’s
-
If Washington gets cut & Mcknight is on the team, I will be sick. I do see talent in Mcknight. He has nice cuts & has an eye for the field, but he is years away. CW ready to play football today. Reamer will be tough. He will be practice for sure & the first call up if we lose another LB. He could be a star special teamer one day.
-
I agree. McKnight is a project with a track record for not playing up to his potential. Looks like this draft choice was bad advice from Sanchez who vouched for him AND is evidently unable to reach him.
You hear words like “immature,” “unfocused” and “not in shape” and the alarm bells go off. It’s way too early to say “bust,” but I’d rather have an aggressive player with heart like CW than a Matt Leinart – type over hyped disappointment. Maybe this was the reason why Pete Carroll didn’t want him.
Can anyone compare McKnight’s style of play to The Terminator. Unless someone like a Thomas Jones rises in this year’s Offense to get to McKnight, he’ll be gone next year. Right now he is definitely NOT a Rex guy.
-
-
BTW, question for football junkies. Do teams sometimes cut a guy they like a little earlier, hoping to make him look less valuable? Last guy cut is sometimes considered value by other teams? Just curious….
-
Can someone please explain to me why the Jets need to carry 4 TE’s?
-
Browning’s Nagle,
The reason why they are carrying 4 TE’s is because
one guy is your main pass catching threat, another is a key blocker in the running game, another can do a little bit of both and is a key contributer on special teams. Last but not least I believe that the Jets do not want to risk running Cumberland through the waiver wire and having somebody else pick him up.
-
-
Because two of them are two of our best ST Players.
-
I think mcknight is too bad to play now but too good to get cut solely based on potential. Sometimes it takes a while a la gholston and with a coach like Rex who has the utmost confidence in himself and whatever he’s working with it can happen. Mcknight can b used as a or and kr right now. Wouldn’t b many carries for him anyway. Washington is a bruiser who’s good enough for carries and too good to b cut. I’d rather make a cut somewhere else. Since we will be without santonio for 4 weeks we can hold on to a bubble and see how things play out. Now with all the fumbling etc that mcknight does and so on seriously– clowney has been on the team 3yrs and he’s nothing more than a preseason homerun hitter. Why keep a guranteed contract for 4 games. I mean he isn’t even a kr/pr and he’s been called out for being inconsistent. That’s really a waste of a roster spot. He won’t get an snaps on offense, he can’t break a block on ko and punts and he gets called for holding on returns. I mean how about putting him on the practice squad to b Percy harvin. I mean he’s just as fast and unlike harvin, his erratic play gives us migraines. Woodhead,Taylor, and Washington play with heart ad a hunger… Mcknight doesn’t play with heart and seems to just b coasting. I mean from puking to fumbling. But I wouldn’t cut him. Yet. The clown. I would.
-
If the Jets are still going to be a run first team, it seems to me they should be fishing around for more RB’s, and not another WR (like the rumor they’re thinking about Houshmanzadeh).
Unless of course they have full confidence now in Sanchez (and if they do based on the preseason, they’re crazy) and will be a passing team now.

Do you think the Jets are going to sign Kris Brown now that hes been cut.
