Jets Claim Turner

by Steiny on September 5th, 2010 at 1:21 pm

Update: To make room for Turner, the Jets have cut David Clowney.

The Jets have claimed WR Patrick Turner who was released by Miami according to Jenny Vrentas of the Star Ledger.

Turner was a third-round pick out of USC in 2009.  He has fantastic chemistry with Sanchez, as you can watch here and here Turner will likely be used to gain information about the Dolphins.  Furthermore, due to his relationship with Sanchez, I expect him to contribute on offense while Holmes is out.  One thing is for sure, this is not good news for David Clowney, whose roster spot now appears in jeopardy.

    I like Turner. Cut Clowney.

  2. avatar Katmando says:

The next headline might be Miami picking up David Clowney.

  3. avatar Bent says:

This is exactly why using a third rounder to trade for a guy like Braylon is better than picking a guy like Turner with that pick.

    • avatar CA JETS FAN says:

Bent completely agree. Except in a draft like last year (we will wait and see). The draft was VERY deep. However, we did think players like McKnight were steals in where he was drafted; but looks like he should be undrafted.

      • avatar Bent says:

Yeah, even in a deep draft, picks can prove worthless (as Andrew’s article further down underlines). Give me a young veteran any time.

(But not Doug Jolley or Justin McCareins).

Amen, not too mention 2nd Round Pick, Pat White and 1st Rounder, Ted Ginn Jr. (now with San Francisco – Thank God!).

  4. avatar HHH says:

    leave clowney alone man!! dang!!

  5. avatar Brendan says:

Not a bad signing. Huge red zone target.

  6. avatar Oli3268 says:

    Sanchez, mcknight, washington, turner

seems like tanny is trying to recreate sanchez’s old offense in NY

  7. avatar HHH says:

btw, they ask sanchez about joe mckight too!! soo0o what does this pickup really mean>>??

  8. avatar MrJetGreen says:

But can he catch the Clown?

  9. avatar HHH says:

    chauncey washington has been waved!!

  10. Call it however you see it in your eyes but Miami has dropped there 2nd round pick and 3rd picks from last year. Pat White and Patrick Turner are both goners.
I know its not a competition solely based on draft ability but for The Jets to miss on one fourth round pick in Mcknight is not the end of the world. Give him time and even if it doesn’t pan out, its a fourth round pick.
Its more important not to miss at the top of the draft – See Gholston,Dwayne Robertson, Becht, etc

  11. avatar Ghost On says:

Yeah, Chauncey cut. One spot open…please be…revis?

Sorry for mentioning he who should no longer be named.

  12. avatar juunit says:

Ugh, great. Another underperformer from USC who’s friends with Sanchez. Why couldn’t we just cut Clowney and keep Washington? I’m really not liking this.

  13. avatar Jetsfan310 says:

I like this cut Clowney I like the Turner pick up even if he doesnt work out we can cut him when Holmes comes back we know Clowney is terrible maybe Turner can be something good.

  14. avatar g.JETSon says:

I just hope the Phins don’t pick up the Clown and turn him into TGinn Jr Jr!

  15. avatar Wolf says:

Ouch. Washington cut, McKnight still with team.

    Bad karma for this team.

  16. avatar Dylan says:

I liked Turner coming out of USC, but I always thought he was a project. He was a projected late round pick, but the Dolphins reached for him in the 3rd round. I like the pickup. The Jets don’t have any big redzone targets. Turner could definitely fill that role.

  17. avatar Team JCo says:

I like this pick up, in the few games I watched of Sanchez in college he seemed to have a nice repport with this guy. Hopefully he can play specials better than Clowney.

  18. I just hope he helps the Jets get the edge they need to beat the Dolphins

  19. avatar JEFFDOLFINI says:

We don’t need an edge to beat the Fins!

  20. avatar Harvlis says:

If they decided that they had to upgrade from Clowney, they should have gotten TJ Housh, as opposed to Turner. We are built to win now. Housh is an experienced pro, who would contribute immediately, whereas Turner is a project.

  21. avatar Shamik says:

I’ll admit Clowney just didnt seem to do enough to make the team or get on the field much. But you gotta feel and root for a selfless guy like that. He’s far from being a star and doesnt really bring in that much money (relatively speaking) yet unlike a prima-donna like Revis who’s holed up in Pittsburgh, Clowney put his own money where his mouth is and travelled to Haiti and Ghana helping out kids and the poor. If this selfless young man doesnt make it in the NFL, I think we all should root for him to do well in the non-profit world!

  22. avatar RDubbs says:

I agree with everything you said, Shamik. Clowney is a class individual. I wish him nothing but the best.

  23. avatar Donal says:

Why have we signed OL Patrick Brown? The Jets will be his fourth team since he was an UDFA in 2009. Can he really be that much better than the several OL players that we cut and who are more familiar with the Jets scheme?

  24. avatar VINNY says:

ARE YOU KIDDING ME CUTTING C. WASHINGTON, WTF HE IS NICE… THIS IS A JOKE RIGHT?

  25. avatar vd10 says:

just a question off topic..does anyone else think it’s funny that with ben getting his suspension cut short…vick previously last year getting his suspension cut short..vincent jackson only serving 3 games for his violations…that there has been no discussion whatsoever of holmes’ suspension being cut?

  26. avatar VINNY says:

this is unbelievable, and keep wack McKnight, this kid is a speed back that was good in college because the all the other college players were smaller and wack too, hes not NFL ready and wont be for a LONG TIME..we are talking about the kid who tripped over his own feet on hard knocks? they are only keeping bc we drafted up for him and its not right, maybe they want to keep his value to trade him, idk what they are thinking but letting go of Washington is a big mistake.

  27. avatar igs says:

I wanted the Jets to draft him in the first place but Miami took him too early and the Jets were too busy targeting like 2 players or something.
