Rex and Schotty addressed the backfield and how they could see scenarios playing out over the course of the season.
Coach Rex Ryan said Shonn Greene will start at running back, though both he and LaDainian Tomlinson will have a significant role. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has said they’ll use both backs early in games this season and will have a good sense by halftime who has the hot hand.
At fullback, Ryan said Richardson will start, not rookie John Conner.
With the lack of Joe McKnight’s emergence during training camp, it’s put a little more pressure on LaDainian Tomlinson to carry the load as well as be the team’s third down back. I’m not sure how Danny Woodhead will fit into the offense, but I guess if he does end up seeing any time in offensive sets this week, it would be out of the slot.

I think Woodhead is going to be used aliitle more than people think, he is valuable to the team because of the different roles he can play. With him able to play different positions it’s like having two extra players on the team. And he IS a good football player.

I’m worried about our backs. Green is my favorite back since Curtis, and as a no. 2 I’m loving what I have seen out of LT. But this is a two back system, and both backs have had injury problems. I know green only has one season under his belt, but that’s the body of work we have to go off of. If either one of these guys goes down for any period of time, it could mean big problems for the season. I was hoping after the new McDroppins had such a bad offseason, we would look at picking up another back or that Chauncey would make the roster. I was also hoping they would at Blount once he was dropped by the titans. He has his issues, but he looked like a beast in the preseason. That would be an awful lot of money tied up in backs, but I a Guy can dream though.
