Week Five Prediction

by Andrew Weiss on October 8th, 2010 at 8:12 pm

Back again with the game predictions.  Here’s what the numbers say for Monday Night.  The Jets have exceeded opponents defenses on average by 17%.  Based on Vikings opponent numbers and pts. allowed, then, we can predict that the Jets will score 19 points this week.   As for the Vikings, they’ve underperformed their opponents defenses by a substantial 31%.   Based on Jets’ opponents numbers and pts. allowed, then, we’ve got the Vikings scoring 11 points.  The final: 19-11 Jets.

Remember these are based on weightings of average performance of opponents which ought to improve as the year goes on and be somewhat inaccurate now, especially since Minnesota’s only played three games.

Last week’s prediction: Jets 27/Bills 8.  Actual score: Jets 38/Bills 14.  Since the Jets covered the +5.5, the prediction is upheld.  Season record against the spread: 2-0.

Sanchez throws 2 Tds and passes for 300 Yds
Tomlinson carries for 50 Yds Greene 100 Yds
Holmes picks up 50 Yds Receiving
Edwards has an outstanding game with 150 Rc Yds and 1 TD
Keller has another 75 RC Yd 1 TD Game

  2. Antoine Winfield on Braylon? and Lito on Santonio? Come on we need to pass like crazy this game. I like that Sanchez is not really crrying a big load but this is one of those games where he has to win it.

I think the Jets are planning on passing a lot this game.I say that because the Vikings are really good at stopping the Run and I expect LT to not be as solid as he was against the Bills and Dolphins because of it.With Holmes now playing, expect to see a lot of Braylon Edwards because Sanchez will throw to the receivers he is familiar with while Holmes draws a lot of attention.

Since the Vikings have gotten healthy Lito is back on the bench. I doubt he sees any time this game, let alone against Holmes. Winfield is also going to mainly be used against slot guys now because he cant keep up with top WRs. Anyway that whole defense is built on their pass rush. If the line collapses the Jets cant throw regardless of who plays corner.

My guess is we see a steady diet of slants and outlet passes. Sanchez rolls out a lot and we get more than one or two Wildcat plays with Brad Smith passing just over the heads of the rush. LT is going to be big in this game.

All I know, is Vegas was playing 9-1 odds for the Jets winning the superbowl, and I took that opportunity. That is looking like a pretty good investment right about now.

Idk why everyone is talking like this is gonna be a cake walk for the Jets. The Vikings are much better than 1-2. Plus they have Moss now. Adam Schein said 31-13 Jets, Francesa picked the Jets, Chris Carlin said 21-13.

I’d be very careful with this one. The Jets better be ready to go. Don’t forget how crappy we always play on MNF.

A lot of people are picking the Jets this week.Jets really need to live up to the hype and win this game.It would send a message to the league that we are among the elite in the NFL.A loss to the Vikings and a lot of people will be saying, “Yea, same ol’ Overated Jets”.We have the better team on the field, but we have to play like it on Monday Night.

  5. 41-7 jets win.

We are to talented I realized this with how well we handled the pats with bb defense and then how easy it was to put up points on miami with a Mike Nolan defense. That’s 2 great d coordinators and we put a hurting on both

  6. p.s.

Vikings and favre are overrated we’ll shut down the run game hopefully and make the old man beat us. He’ll throw 4 picks.

  7. avatar Moses says:

    21-13
    LT – 2 TDs, 65 yards
    Sanchez – 1 Td, 245 yrds

    Revis – int.

I believe we will contain Peterson for most of the game. Big question is do we get the good Favre or the bad Favre.
24-17 Jets win with good Favre
41-10 Jets win with bad Favre
The crowd will be rockin either way

  9. avatar Barbella says:

I predict Favre will rollout right, hang to the left and throw across his body to dial long distance to Randy Moss…. Whoops – Dropped Call!

Tight spiral? Busy signal? Nope. Just Favre’s French tickler going viral!!!

farve will come up short ha ha ha.JETS win game 32-14 defense 3 TO sanchez 2 TDS 3 fg 1 safety LT 1TD The beginning will be a little hard but vikes break and jets run away.

  11. avatar tyrone says:

for some reason in the past the jets have always done good against farve.at meadowlands.

  12. Against the Vikes front, I am looking for JCO to have his bbest game so far this season. In 3 wide sets with LT in backfield and Keller on the edge there are too many people to cover. Someone is mismatched. They can even run from this set with Braylons blocking ability. On defense, someone needs to stay with Shancoe and take away Farves woobie. Then we might see Bad Brett.
