With Rex Ryan confident that Darrelle Revis is back to full health, and Antonio Cromartie playing very well over the course of Revis’ recovery from his hamstring injury, what are the Jets going to do moving forward against the Packers dynamic duo of Donald Driver and Greg Jennings?
Jennings and Driver are built similarly, are both vertical receivers and are capable of running every kind of route. The difference, Cromartie said, is that Jennings is more of a speed receiver, and Driver is a physical player Green Bay will often move to the slot in three-receiver sets.
Cromartie called this the “best receiving corps we’ll face the entire year,” though Driver did sit out Wednesday’s practice with a lingering quad injury. It’s a good week for Revis to be at full strength (he practiced fully Wednesday), giving the Jets multiple possibilities on how to guard the Packers — and the ability to mix and match in-game.
“It’s not who’s the better corner; who’s got the best cover skills,” Revis said. “First, the guy’s my teammate. Second, he’s a great corner. And third, we’ve got two corners in me and him. We’re like a tag team. …. I still have to do my job if I’m not on the No. 1 guy; if he’s not, he still has to do his job.”
If you were to ask me to boil down what sort of corners Revis and Cromartie are. I would say that Cromartie is best at covering deep routes of taller less physical receivers who can high-point for the ball, while I’d say that Revis is more versatile in that he can cover shorter speedier types as well as physical receivers.
Based on Cromartie’s assessment of Jennings and Driver, I’d imagine that Cro would take Jennings more often than not, while Revis will match up with Driver. While last year it was a simple formula of “put Revis on the top guy”, with the emergence of Cromartie in this defense against guys like Randy Moss, Brandon Marshall and others, it makes sense to put him on whom he can cover best – in this case Jennings.
Of course, it doesn’t mean that they will cover those players exclusively, but that’s how I imagine they will be lined up more often than not.

I dunno about anyone else, but I’m more concerned about Rodger’s legs than whose covering who in the secondary.
-
yup.. he leads QB’s in 20 yrds rushing!!
-
Look, my point is that on 3rd downs, in obvious passing downs, our great coverage with the addition of our sometimes suspect ability to sack will give Rodgers plenty of space to move. He may not have the yards now, but you cant discount his quickness
-
-
but rodgers legs arent going to win the packers the game…he wants to throw he doesnt want to run, he’s good at it if he has to, but he would much rather throw the ball
-
No, but they might pick up crucial 3rd downs, which has been the Jets defense’s achilles heel.

Cromartie can’t shine Revises shoes. Revus is teh best cover corner in league and will go to hall of fame while Comartie is lucky to make a few pro-bowls.
-
if revs’ career ended tomorrow, he would not be in the half of fame; therefore he is not a hall of famer he had one great season and the other seasons were good but not near hall of fame worthy, lets just hope he can get back to some 09 shape.

I think I can almost forgive Revis for his douchiness if he gets 2 picks on Sunday and shuts down ever WR he covers for the rest of the season. I’ll worry about his next holdout when it comes.
-
Worry not. He’s not holding out until at least next year.

Any other negative Lotto fantasies keeping you up nights?

The packers receivers, without JerMichael Finley, do not scare me. Put Revis on Driver, and Cro + Safety help on Jennings. Take the run away and make their 2nd and 3rd receiving options beat us. I like our chances matching up Wilson and Coleman on those guys.
Actually, what worries me the most about this game is Rogers scrambling for big yards

Mr. Rogers, meet Mr. Harris.
Mr. Harris, meet Mr. Rogers.

Wasn’t Driver injured and basically a non-factor in Green Bay’s game last week? He was still playing, so he’ll probably be healed by Sunday, but it’s worth mentioning that he probably won’t be at 100% after that.

Revis on Driver and Cro On Jennings!
-
I looked up their stats and agree that based on physical attributes, Cro should be on Jennings and Revis on Driver. But as long as we win who cares?
-
Driver is hurt with a quad injury.. James Jones will be ready to step up in his place.. That kid is more of a threat than Driver (this week, anyways)
-
With all they hype about these 2 CB’s . I want to see at least 2 INT’s.
We should get a good pass rush …………….I hope fingers crossed.
-
What happened to that guy Kyle Wilson. Remember? Our first round pick?
-
He sucks. This draft was a bust except for Conner.
-
Yes, he sucks, he’s only 23, was baptized by fire, forced to learn two positions at the NFL level at the same time, but he sucks.
What a waste of a draft pick we should have just sold it for a lifetime supply of ear plugs so people wouldn’t have to listen to complaints like this one.

Brendan.
Out of all the guys on this blog, you’re the only one that makes good sense. -
Go, Brendan, Go!
Agree fully…
-
Brendan i’m with you. who are this people talking like that the man is 23. same old jets fan.YOU PEOPLE SUCKS!!!!!!

Lol, rex said his role is shrinking becuz of coleman and lowery play on field!!
-
D’uh.
Yep, Wilson is struggling since they’ve thrown him in the deep end of the pool. He’ll be fine. But it has also forced Coleman and Lowery to step up their games when forced into service. Both have struggled, but both have contributed big plays…

Draft day sucked for Jets. Except for 4th round Conner, 3 losers (so far): Wilson, Ducasse, & McKnight. However, trading draft choices for vets we hit the fountain of youth with LT, and career revivals with Cromartie and Holmes. Taylor we picked out of the Miami gutter to prove he ain’t done either.
-
You’re grading a draft that took place half a year ago.
LT was a free agent. Taylor was a free agent. Neither cost us picks.
-
Brendan,
You’re bringing facts to a dopey-vent fight; not fair…

Bassett do you think the jets will activate jarron gilbert on game day??

It’s really too early to say that some of those players drafted are busts. Best case scenario, there is still a big learning curve when playing those positions in the NFL. Ferguson took some time to get acclimated to the NFL, why should Ducasse be any different? Especially when Ferguson was a higher pick than Ducasse was. Wilson has shown some flashes of what he may be able to do in the future. The only person you can truly pass judgment on is McKnight. Because running backs make an impact right away. There is definitely still a learning curve, but the basics are simple… run for daylight and don’t go down. I mean to be honest, I don’t even understand why you’re saying Conner isn’t also a bust. He hasn’t actually done anything on the field yet either.
-
@juunit actually if you look at some of the past film he has made some great blocks, also it’s not like he is going to be like the fb for the ravens and get the ball alot so his name most likely won’t get mentioned alot
-
He has looked OK when he’s been in, but he’s rarely been in. Which is also the case with the other guys as well, they’ve rarely been in. So to say that these guys were total busts based on the few quarters of playing time they got in the preseason seems a little premature. I’ll agree that right now Conner looks the best out of all of them. But in a year or two that may not be the case anymore. Of course when it comes to McKnight, who knows, he may be working at McDonalds.

-
I refuse to believe he is fully 100% until he tells us the day after a well played game that he is 100%, not after a week off, not after simulated practice. He has yet to do this the entire season.
-
+1

speaking of Wilson, I don’t think Joe Haden has been blazing a trail himself. Hey we needed a corner in the draft and we got a good one. Give him time. What Rex did to him in week 1 was almost criminal.
-
What was that?
-
-
Put him in man coverage against Anquan Boldin

I really hope Revis is back to full health this week. The prospect of having two of the best cover corners in the league had us all licking our chops this off-season, this would be a great game to see it actually happen.
