While Cromartie might be the taller defensive back, it looks like Ryan relishes Revis’s more physical style to counter the specimen that is Calvin “Megatron” Johnson according to Manish Mehta in the Daily News.
According to Ryan, Darrelle Revis will “generally match up” against Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who has thrived despite missing his starting quarterback for five games. Revis likened the 6-5, 230-pound Johnson to a cross between Randy Moss and the more physical Andre Johnson.
Johnson’s large frame is hardly a concern for Revis, who made a living shutting down taller wideouts a year ago.
“Why would I be concerned about somebody’s size?” Revis said. “I’ve had a number of guys who have been huge wide receivers – Andre Johnson, Randy…”
Something, however, was lost amid all of Revis’ research. He wasn’t aware that Johnson’s nickname was Megatron.
“I didn’t know that,” Revis said. “Why do they call him Megatron? He transforms into a Megatron, huh? I guess. I don’t know.”
Big, tall, physical, ability to jump, evade, quickness in closing on a safety, his second gear, the to ability to deliver a hit, his finesse play … Calvin Johnson might be the ultimate matchup right now for a guy like Revis … but is he the proverbial Kryptonite?
When it comes down to height or physicality, I think that physicality will more often than not dictate the matchup for the Jets. Cromartie plays better against guys that are less physical than Revis can, so they’ll plan to try and work Revis on whoever fits that mold more often than not.
While I don’t exactly know what to expect from Revis this weekend, he’s the best that the Jets can do against Johnson, but I still expect that they’ll work to get him help over the top from Brodney Pool as much as they can.
Here’s a highlight video of some of Megatron’s big plays.

Calvin Johnson is clown shoes. He won’t catch more than two passes on Sunday.

why dont we throw to braylon more. he has the ability to make these plays.
fire schotty!!!!!

Sanchez is the QB, you know that right?

+ 1

Yeah, Sanchez never throws to Braylon, he got those stats catching passes from Tom Tupa.

I’m not with fire Schoty but they need to get the ball more to Braylon.

While Revis is one of my favorite players (last year anyway) I dont think he has faced anyone quite like this monster and I dont think he should trash talk him. I think you should be concerned with his size and you know his nickname is MEGATRON! Now goodluck and lets see the old Revis a quiet shutdown corner.

ummmmmmmmmmmmmm ANDRE JOHNSON he is the best in the game the most physical receiver, the 2nd or 3rd best hands in the game and he is ver deceptivly fast for a guy his size… andre would dust calvin who is also a monster

False.
Calvin is faster (beat Andre by a tenth of a second on their 40 times).
Calvin is bigger (6’5, 236 for CJ vs. 6’3, 223 for AJ).
Calvin has a bigger vertical leap as well.
That being said, I think Andre is the better receiver, but he’s not as physically gifted as Megatron.

I’ve never really understood how Revis manages to shutdown guys that have such an obvious height advantage. All the other team has to do is throw up a jump ball, and there’s no way Revis can get his hands higher than Johnson can. Here’s to Revis’s continued dominance.

Watched the vid. Now I see why Rex is putting DR on CJ.
Not only is he 6’5″, he jumps like a Small Forward. Plus, Kitna, and Stafford, we assume, know to just throw it high and let CJ come down with the rebound. Some of those passes look more like Ally-Oop’s, esp. in the red zone.
The best way to beat that is beat him. Beat him up. Knock CJ around. Revis is just the man to just beat him senseless at the line on every play, so that CJ’s legs don’t have quite as much spring in them by the 2nd quarter.

this is the week us jet fans find out if revis is really back or not

If it makes you sleep better at night to think that Revis can beat out Calvin then fine. If you really believe this then you are as rediculous as your head coach in making comments like, “The best defense is coming to town”. It’s not that your don’t have the best D cause I think you do, it’s that he’s making a point of it. Dum. These are not the ol’ Lions and are gelling like no team in the NFL at this point in the season. I would humble yourselves til’ the fourth quarter where the Jets will probalbly win but not the Revis-Johnson battle. Good luck and as they say, “Any Given Sunday!”

Why is Rex telling Detroit what to expect? Unless he is pulling a Bellichek and misleading them?
