    Some unexpected stuff in there.

    Thank goodness they drafted Sanchez…

I note that his quotes are already being used out of context.

I always find Rex interesting because he’s very clever — he’ll blast someone, but if you read carefully, you realize that he qualifies it in some way.

For example, even while calling Rhodes selfish, he also notes that the guy has a ton of talent. He bashes Gholston, but then says how he wanted to work with him to get everything out of him.

Although I do wish he would just take the high road and just keep his mouth shut some times, this should be a real fun read.

The problem is, the media will report only the negative side, so unless you read the book, you don’t appreciate that, reinforcing his inaccurate blowhard reputation.

Example: Today’s headline is “Rex calls Gholston a phony” suggesting he thinks VG is a phony, but actually it just says he thought he was a phony when he was deciding whether Baltimore should draft him. Subtle difference, but an important one because he seemed more respectful of Gholston the Jet.

The media can pick apart whatever they want, Rex is still the most desirable coach for players coming into the league and for many veterans who want to chase a ring.

That’s more telling than someone trying to spin controversy before everyone digests the book and realizes it was not the true nature of the excerpts.

  4. Man, he really trashed Barton in that excerpt. I wonder if Manish left out anything that would soften it.

Gotta love REX – could not be a more perfect HC of the NYJ.
