With the Top Ten remaining on NFL Network’s “The Top 100: Players of 2011” we’re curious to know … where do you think that the Jets top ranked player, Darrelle Revis, will rank?
Bucky Brooks has him ranked 3rd overall on NFL.com, and I’m not inclined to disagree. Trying to be as non-homer about this as possible, I think that Revis could go anywhere in the 3-7 range just based on the whims of the voters. But to drill down on the list, Brady and Manning are most assuredly to be ahead of Revis, then beyond that, there’s really only two, maybe three (Julius Peppers, Adrian Peterson, –maybe- Chris Johnson) other players I could even imagine listening to an argument about being ahead of Revis after the two QBs.
What do you think? Where will Revis land? Will it be third? Will it be higher? Lower? Let us know!

Chris Johnson was ranked 13th, so he is not in the discussion.

My top
1-Manning
2-Brady
3-A.Rogers
4-Ware
5-Revis
6-Peppers
7-Peterson
8-Nagata
9-C.Johnson
10-A.Johnson-
Rogers?! Ahead of Revis? *cracks up*

Is it just me, I don’t really care.
Well I do hope he isn’t rated too high or he will hold out for a new contract.
-
if he is lower than 3rd its a travisty!
-
He has to be below number three. Rodgers is an awsome player and awsome QB’s are more important than any other position. Sorry, it’s a fact. A top 3-5 QB is more important to a team then the number one player at any other position. That is today’s NFL and I don’t think its even desputable.
-
It’s hard to compare a CB and QB as being better. It’s not fair to count the importance of a QB because then the first 20 names would be QBs. I would put Revis 3rd simply because he’s a once-in-a-generation player. Rodgers isn’t.
-
But then by your reasoning he’s got to be higher then Brady and Manning. As there are two of them, which means they aren’t once in a generation players!
-
Haha well played. But we’re talking about 2 of the 5 best QBs ever. So they’re in a separate league than guys like Brees, Rodgers, and Rivers.
Manning/Brady are indisputably good on a historic level. But aside from them, no one player plays his position better than Revis does CB. It’s mind boggling to think about the amount of impact he has on a game from such an isolated position.
-
Ahhh impact on a game. To use this rationale, there is no more important game then a playoff game and it two games where Peyton Manning and Tom Brady played, the team with Revis prevailed. All I’m saying is by the sheer standard of winning I’d put Revis ahead of Brady and Peyton because without Revis I think it’s fair to say the Jets would have had a lot harder time winning those playoff games.
-
“in” not “it” and Revis should be ranked #1.
-
Great point. Revis took away Wayne, therefore manning was at the top of his game. If revis wasn’t revis, Wayne would have had more then 1 catch for 1 yard, and manning would have found a way to win. Coverage was so tight against NE that Brady looked scared back there. I was gonna say revis 3rd, I now put him at 1st.

I don’t even know how to respond to
“by the sheer standard of winning I’d put Revis ahead of Brady and Peyton because”
Perhaps you should re-read your own post.
-
he has a good point. i look at the list as,
elite QB there are at least 5-6
elite CB perhaps 3
so, it is much much much mor rare to have someone of revis’s skill which should put him higher.who is left that could be ahead of him?
-
there have been plenty of great QB’s over the years but nobody compairs to revis accept deion
-
Your mistaken me…not disagreeing with Brenden, i’m saying the assumption that Revis is a bigger “winner” then Brady or Manning is just insane.
-
i’m not picking sides either haha. being a winner in my book really does not have a whole lot to do with total player skill. plenty of good player have been on horrid teams ie. barry sanders

Nick-
Yes I know my eloquence is difficult to refute and I am happy you attempted after falling on your own sword…But if you re-read my post you’d understand my point. This is blog, I am just posting a point-of-view of how to qualify a top 100-list wherein only a few players remain to be ranked. I could care less honestly, there’s just nothing better to talk about, but if you really “can’t respond to someone ” you probably shouldn’t, you’re just causing yourself a headache.-
“This is blog”
haha, eloquent.
(just kidding)

Thanks, I was hoping I might have a typo so that the early sarcasm in the post could be fully appreciated. Dear lord let there be football this year, or all this off-season posting will feel very sad indeed :(

I think rogers should be 1

-
Rodgers didn’t make the top 10, he was in the 11-20 group.
-
-
-
I rather have him at 10, I don’t want him anywhere near the top 5. Imagine how the contract negotiations will go next time around with Revis being a top 5 player in the NFL? Forget about Nnamidi type money, he’s gonna want Peyton Manning type money.
-
I believe Rodgers was ranked #11.
-
IF Demarcus Ware is ahead of him, Jerry must have called in the fix!
I dont get Ware – he’s a good player, would love him on our team, but i do not think he’s THAT great
-
He’s one of the 5 best defensive players in the game, in my mind. Dallas’ defense would be pretty bad without him.
-
he is great but revis should still be ahead of him
-
I don’t disagree. But Ware is one of the top defensive players in the league every year.
-
no doubt. i don’t think anyone would not want him on their team. i sure a hell would

Honestly I don’t even know why we’re having this discussion. It’s just kind of irrelavent. Brady and Manning are the two best QB’s in the league we all know that. Revis is an All-Pro corner and the best in the game. AP is an All-Pro Running back. Peppers, Ware, etc. etc. What I’m trying to say is, once you get to the top 10 it’s pretty much the best of the best at each position. These are all firts or second team All-Pro players, they’re all in the upper enchalant of players in the league. So it’s pointless to compare all these players who play different positions and are great in their own way
-
so if thats the case then what need to be taken into account is what else does said player do well outside of their normal positional responsabilites.
revis is a tackling machine, which most CBs are not known for.
see QBs only provide leadership outside of their normal play. guys like vick bring something extra with their running ability.
-
-
I still think they are going to put Ray Lewis and maybe Polamalu ahead of Revis. I think Revis should be 3rd or 4th but will be end up being 5th.
-
Good God I didn’t realize he was still hanging around. He’s top 10? Seriously, NFL Network?
-
The players voted on this list not the nfl network.
I think this whole top 100 list thing is gay.
I agree with braybray17fan, what’s the point

#1. Revis is the best player in the NFL. He shuts down HOF receivers and their QBs. It’s shocking how great he is, really.
-
oh he be shutting down HOF recievers? Damn, that’s so much better then obliterating an entire defence that is geared around one goal, stopping Peyton Manning.
I am aware this is a blog, and this is fun and we are all just bored out of our minds becasue there is no real football to talk about…
BUT
Revis is not in Manning or Brady’s class.
-
Revis is better at his position than either are at theirs. It’s not that close, really.
-
He doesn’t shut down HOF receivers?
-
-
-
They love them some Ray Ray. He’s the NFL network poster boy
-
based on the 10 guys that have to be left-
1.Manning
2.Brady
3.Peterson
4.Revis
5.Andre Johnson
6.Polamalu
7.Brees
8.Ray Lewis
9.Peppers
10.Ed ReedI feel like its either revis or polamalu for highest defensive player, and that either the highest rb or wr on the list will take number 3. So i’m sticking revis in between them. But any order those 4 guys land in wouldn’t surprise me
-
Here’s a question: If Rex could trade Revis straight up for Manning or Brady, would he do it today?
I believe Manning would cause him some serious consternation, but I don’t think he’d make either deal.
Think about it.
-
At this point in their respective careers? No way would Rex make that trade. I agree with you 100% Revis is the ABSOLUTE best at his position. People constantly argue about who is the better QB Brady or Manning. After only 4 years in the league there is no argument over who is the best CB. I have not heard one person say NA, or any other CB for that matter, is as dominant as Revis.
PS Isn’t the old saying “defense win championships”? Shouldn’t the best defensive player be #1 regardless of if they have won a championship?….yet
Just throwing stuff at the wall and seeing if anything sticks. -
He might trade him for rogers
-
-
Only thing I can add is that Brady and Manning have had probowlers surrounding them their entire careers between offensive lines, WR’s, RB’s etc. And in my oppinion wouldn’t be able to accomplish much of anything without the support. Revis on the other hand, does most of his work on his own. Total isolation with arguable the highest skill set players in the league. He takes these guys out of the game as we all know single handedly. How many WR’s make this top 100 list? Quite a few I believe, and they all are complete ghosts when Revis is on them.
-
It’s tough to put a CB in front of a QB, simply because a QB has a much larger effect on the game. But, Revis is in the discussion of best CB ever. I think third is a good spot for him, since Manning and Brady are also in the discussion for best QB ever, and again, QBs have a larger impact. I’d also throw Polamalu into that top area along with Revis. They might even be ahead of Revis, but only because they’ve been around for longer. I think he’ll be between 3-5.
-
If this list is based on last year I can’t see revis at #3. If is based on 2nd half of season, maybe.
-
Revis ranks somewhere between Aretha Franklin and Lady Gaga. He still ranks in the top 10 divas, maybe #7.
-
I have to put Troy Polamalu as the number one defensive player on the board, Ray Lewis and Revis is a toss up at number 2. Revis has to be number 4 or 5 altogether.

Agreed on the two QB’s,then I’d have to go with Darelle, he changes games even when not involved in the plays. Teams limit there offense to a great degree away from him, . While I would have no gripe if he and Peppers were 3-4 in any order, both have more impact that either of the two running backs.
