Jets Showing Interest In WR Randy Moss, CB Chris Carr

by Gary Grund on July 27th, 2011 at 1:23 pm

Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network deems free agent receiver Randy Moss as one of the Jets options to start opposite Santonio Holmes this year.

Moss spent last year with three teams, the Patriots, Vikings and finally the Titans. Overall, he caught 28 passes for 393 yards and added 5 touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Aaron Wilson has reported that the Jets are among the teams showing interest in free agent cornerback Chris Carr, but “nothing is happening fast.”

Carr, 28, was slotted into the starting role after Dominique Foxworth, Ladarius Webb and Fabian Washington all were injured and started all sixteen regular season games as well as the Ravens’ two postseason matchups. He had his best defensive season yet this past year notching 61 tackles with a pair of interceptions and eight pass deflections. Carr could be of interest to the Jets as a return man as well as he has returned 250 kicks and 144 punts in his six-year career, but has not run any of them back.

Broncos/Phins in talk about Orton. Please send a first rounder, Miami. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeee.

    • avatar juunit says:

Orton is no scrub. He won’t win them a ring, but he’ll see the Dolphins remain a thorn in our side. Also, Moss, might not be too bad considering the other options. Moss is a TD machine. Perfect for the redzone.

      • avatar Brendan says:

The Jets would dismantle Orton on that team. At least I think they would. Floating passes to B-Marsh when Revis is guarding him won’t work.

        • avatar juunit says:

I don’t think they’d do too well against us. But they’re a run first team and Orton is accurate. He could be real effective off the play action against lesser defenses. Defenses that don’t have the best CB duo ever. Could be good for a Patriots loss or two.

  2. avatar Team JCo says:

    NO!

  3. avatar Jaro says:

    No Moss! NO!!!!

  4. avatar tomg says:

    definitely a big NO!!!

  5. avatar Jim says:

please no randy moss! slouch and a loser.

  6. avatar PA Matt says:

I don’t like Carr either… he’s kinda dirty and quite honestly, I’d prefer keeping Drew Coleman.

  7. avatar Brendan says:

What is this high school? Why is everyone so against Moss? When motivated and in shape, he’s a great talent. If he’s cheap, why not? Holmes/Moss/JCo is a big “how’s your face” to defensive backfields everywhere.

    • avatar michael says:

      That’s what Minnesota thought… and that’s what Tennessee thought…

He defies the logical way of looking at things. I don’t care if he comes cheap — I don’t want him near this team.

    • avatar Jim says:

me first attitude, quitting on teammates, running over police officers, still loving belicheat and the pats, only out for money, a “slouch”, he’ll be 35 this year, caught only 28 passes for 3 teams last year when he was playing for a contract, even brady wanted him off his team, should i go on?

    • avatar Ferraro41 says:

He is a great talent when motivated and in shape. The problem is, he decides when he’s motivated and when he’s not. I mean, if he can’t remain motivated with Tom Brady throwing passes to him, what makes anyone think he’ll remain motivated with us?

I don’t hate the guy….I just think I’d be happier watching him jog through routes with someone else, that’s all.

  8. avatar nyckage says:

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
I don’t want us to have anything to do with Moss, can’t try to get Malcolm Floyd or something. I trust Mike T and the scouts fully, they gambled and won with LT, but I just don’t like Randy Moss, he’s an ass and I don’t think he has anything left.

  9. Great move here if we can’t sign Braylon. Randy will spread the field and he is out to prove to the entire NFL that he’s not washed up. Rex/Jets can resurrect Moss and if he acts up, we won’t be paying him enough to care.

  10. avatar JohnZ says:

    NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. avatar JohnZ says:

    He’s a slouch, per Revis

  12. avatar Jets = (Less) Misery says:

    not Moss… oh god no..

  13. avatar NamVetJet says:

Bent any idea on how much cap space Dallas has? Thinking Aso might be good fit for them and it would put him in prime time.

  14. avatar C Low says:

I’ll only take Moss if that means we get Aso

  15. avatar Marvel says:

    Yes x10

    • avatar Alex says:

From Peter King, SI: “I think the Jets and Nnamdi Asomugha is a real story. For those who think the cap would prohibit it, understand this: The Jets could let free agents Antonio Cromartie and Braylon Edwards walk — those two would be $10 million to $12 million on the cap, potentially, in 2011 — and they could re-do the contracts of Mark Sanchez and Darrelle Revis, and they could whittle linebacker David Harris’ 2011 cap hit from $10 million to about $7 million by turning his one-year deal into a multiyear contract. If you don’t think Rex Ryan is pushing for this, you’re crazy.”

The Revis thing isn’t going to happen. Unless he gives money up (yeah, right) the most they could save is less than 2.5m of cap space.

  16. The Jets have answered a lot of my criticisms over the past few seasons, which is why I’m nt really active on the blog these days. I’m very happy with the QB, the FA selections have been good. They’re investing in the X receiver position. They’re drafting more than 3 players per draft, lol. The D-line looks good. I like it all. As to where I used to view Reese and Tanning-Bum as two sides of a coin, it appears that Reese could benefit from an understudy position in the Jets front office. Taning-Bum has steadily improved in his patience without losing his habit of being active in the market and trades.

    Two things I will recommend:

I don’t really see why you need Moss if you have Holmes. Holmes is like everything.

I’m hearing a lot on ESPN about bringing in Asomugha. I mean, this would be like having Jordan and Kidd in their prime on the same team. But it is a bit of overkill. I would spend that Moss/Asomugha money on picking up the pass rush and taking care of the safety situation (Don’t tell me Jim Leonard. I don’t want to hear it). And don’t forget you spent a first round pick on Kyle Wilson.

  17. avatar The Green Hornet says:

No mas, No Moss, No mas por favor

  18. avatar Brad says:

Sign Moss! You are looking at Moss to be the 3rd WR option, only in on 3 WR sets, which isnt an everydown basis. Keep him fresh, let him run his deep fly routes and shorter post and out plays.
Holmes and Cotchery are the #1 and 2 WR options. Moss also vital in the Red Zone.
When was Moss motivated in his practices that led him to be motivate in the Game. Look at the usual CB’s he would go up against in practice on the Patriots- no one special. If he becomes a Jet- going up against Revis and possibly Aso will keep him intrigued and trying to prove himself. Cause you know the Jets Defense loves to talk crap to our Offense- and Randy will love to shut up Revis and the defense- With Rex’s player friendly practices- it will bring the fun back into the game for Randy as well as the Defense, Revis keeping Randy honest, making sure he plays hard.

  19. avatar Tk says:

Can’t believe no one wants Randy on the team…i would gladly take him.

  20. avatar JETS#1 says:

You Judas Leonard is awsome ok how about this sign Darren Sharper for veteran minamimm if we get Nnamdi a ball-hawk saftey like Sharper is the type of saftey we need since the saftey’s will get picked on

  21. avatar doboybk says:

lol u guys are clowns . if we cant bring braylon back randy moss is a very capable replacement with the possibility of being better than braylon . moss is still great did u guys forget wat he did to revis and his hamstring just last year . alo this is going to allow alot of money to be free for other moves.from what i hear hes in great shape and extremely motivated. moss with the patriots had 50 td’s in 3 season and few games . that would put him on our alltime list .
worst thing worst if he doesnt work out we still have cotchery who is a starter in this league or did u guys forget. its not like we’ll lack recieving threats if moss doesnt work out we still have dustin keller who has yet to truely break out or is this not enough . it comes down to sanchez and shotty . any average qb with the receiving core we had last year would have done alot more and thats the cold harsh facts .

  22. avatar Jon says:

I dont know about this one. What makes any of you think he will change? Sure rex is great and all but he was on the patriots, with the best qb in the game and he was not happy. Why be happy here. I dont like it.

We should go balls out to get Aso then try and get our mad bray back. He deserves to be a Jet.

  23. avatar deuce4417 says:

no sir i don’t like it. i will not be buying a moss jersey,…..HOWEVER afet a little time to think about it if it gets aso thaenn its what we have to do. don’t forget that we drafter 2 recievers, and have a few others that could make an impact. i hate moss as a person and teammate, but if he keeps in line and does not ruin the team i guess i can live with it

the question is, how long will he play good soldier untill the moss of old will show up causing sh@@!

  24. moss will help Holmes you still have to respect the guy when flying down the field, I have been through 4 looses in the AFC game I don’t care who they pick .Plus this could be a sign that we will get aso. moss is maybe 3 mil maybe were brayland is 5-6 .we still have to sign Harris Poole and maybe get some more players ,If moss don’t pan out we release him no biggie.we still have Patrick turner .keller.cotch/LT out of backfield .we are set Moss is just so they don’t triple team Holmes.and I do not believe his attitude will hurt us .We all acted like this when we got BE from Cle, now we are all going to miss him.Trust in Rex/Tanny/woody.

  25. avatar Mr. AB says:

I feel you.. Why the hate on Moss.. Ya’ll acting like he’s still a distraction.. Truthfully he had every right to be upset when Brady focused more the short passing game… and you see what happened when Randy left the Patriots sucked.. SMH ans truthfully if we did sign Moss our passing game would be crazy.. You would have to double either Moss or Holmes enabling us to run the ball like crazy… Wow and ya’ll call yourselves Jets fans…

  26. avatar Scott Anderson says:

Yes to Randy Moss. He’s a low risk high reward if you sign him for a year. Plus don’t you think he’ll want to show belichick that he still has something left.
As for last year he was catching passes from a washed up favre, kerry collins and rusty smith.

  27. avatar JETS! says:

    R.Williams > R.Moss. !!

    • avatar MarkInIowa says:

I actually agree with this. I wouldn’t mind seeing him with Santonio. He could have a longer tenure with the team at a reasonable price and the risk/reward potential is similar.

  28. avatar GP says:

I’d take Plax over Moss right now but it’s close. The last time we saw Moss, he looked completely checked out of the game. It’s like he doesn’t even care about football anymore.

Obviously neither’s perfect, but at least Plax will be playing with a chip on his shoulder this year and has shown that he can make a quarterback with a suspect skill set (looking at you, Eli) look REALLY friggin’ good.

  29. avatar Brendan says:

    ClaytonESPN John Clayton
Filed to ESPN, The Panthers have reached a two-year deal on TE Ben Hartsock

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

    • avatar MarkInIowa says:

I think Hartsock not being back was inevitable with Keller, Cumberland and Mulligan, I think we have the TEs we want for this season. They are cheaper by a little bit than Hartsock and, hopefully, not a huge dropoff in production. Save money for Aso (or Cro or Joseph or some other CB2).

    • avatar Bent says:

Forget Asmougha…this could mean that Alge Crumpler is available!!!

  30. avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

No Moss… I would rather have Chad Johnson!

  31. avatar johnnyreefer says:

he got his chance, he had 4? 5? years to make his claim to be the starter of this team.

Thats 5 offseasons and seasons to show he had to stuff and never did.

If the guys who watched him practice and play everyday didn’t think he could start, i’m pretty sure he got a fair shot.

  32. avatar MarkInIowa says:

I think we are getting Edwards back.

The Redskins are widely considered our biggest competition and they have:
    Resigned Santana Moss
    Signed Donte Stallworth
    Traded for Jabar Gaffney

That is a lot of work done on WRs. I just don’t know about them spending too much for Edwards too. Maybe I am wrong though.

  33. avatar Brendan says:

Bray got active probation. Meaning he has to make visits to probation officer, submit to drug testing, etc.

  34. avatar Jeff says:

Forget Aso- All around, i think it would make more sense for us to target Joseph who, when healthy, is arguably better than Cro. Joseph,Holmes,Edwards should be more than doable.

    • avatar MarkInIowa says:

Overall I do prefer this. Especially if we could pick up a good Dimeback to help his career. I wonder if a Drayton Florence could come in to compete with Wilson for Nickel/Dime along with Joseph, Holmes, Edwards. That would be the best case scenario in my opinion.

    • avatar MarkInIowa says:

Though if this were Madden I would probably work to get Aso with Revis. Perhaps Tanny is an avid Madden player. :)
