Jets Playoff Scenario

by Steiny on December 24th, 2011 at 7:01 pm

After much research, I figured out what needs to be done in order for the Jets to make the playoffs. Here you go:

We’ll break this down more clearly later in the week…but from first glance, what are your thoughts on our chances as we head into Week 17?

109 Responses to Jets Playoff Scenario

  1. avatar BrayBray17 Fan says:

We put ourselves in this position and have noone to blame but ourselves. Like Bart Scott said, we don’t deserve to control our own destiny after these past two games. Aboslutely embaressing. That being said, this is my football team and I will have my eyes on four games next week hoping that we somehow find a way to get in. Woody has some people to fire this offeseason though.

    • avatar Daniel says:

Listen Schottenheimer was the reason this team lost today. 60 passes for Sanchez is mind boggling. That is definitely one person that needs to be fired on this team

    • avatar jets4evrr says:

As embaressing as this game was, Jet weaknesses were evident throughout, so Tanny should go out and fix them for net season.

  2. avatar braylon's dd says:

and i have tickets for next weeks game in miami hoping it was win and in.. my luck

  3. avatar Chakrabs says:

Jets chances? Zip to none. And neither do they deserve a chance. They certainly havent earned it.

    • avatar MetalVagabond says:

this team just does not have it’s DOA, they lick their wounds in the off season and fix what they have refused to fix, hire a competent OC and reevaluate the weak positions on the team

  4. avatar Jetholes says:

    chances: awful
    offensive strategy today: stupid

  5. avatar Enzo says:

Can’t see Titans losing to Texans, unless Foster has a field day but I see them resting him.

  6. Our d played awesome today and flat out dominated besides a couple of drives. You cannot ask for more form them. Its a shame we have an oc who thinks he can reinvent the game with mind boggling offense.

    RUN THE BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. avatar Tron says:

Baltimore will be damn hungry because it will be the difference between bye and wild card. KC over tailspinning Denver OR San Diego over Oakland is not unreasonable whatsoever. I fully expect the Bengals and one of the west teams to go down.

But Houston…they’re locked into the 3 and are an absolute mess. The one saving grace is that they know they HAVE TO get their s*** together before the playoffs, and would be idiots to “take week 17 off.”

Honestly, the most unlikely result I see regarding the playoff chances is the Jets beating Miami. How terribly symbolic it would be if all these teams lost and it was again the Jets that refused to help themselves…

    • avatar JetLife says:

Yea my thoughts exactly even though its up to other teams to decide our fate we still have a good chance of getting in then playing houston in first round, now if only we knew what game theyll flex

  8. avatar Jason says:

Truth be told, I hope they dont get in. If they get in, maybe we would win a game or 2 at best. That would just mask the problems that we have. 1 of 2 things have to be done. Either Sanchez or Schotty must go. They do not work well for each other. OC’s need to develop QBs. I am so angry. Now I have to listen to 4 more years of Giants fans. Only way to shut them up would be to win the SB which is not possible.

If we cant beat the Giants at home, you think we have a shot against Balt or Pitt?

  9. avatar gary s. says:

Turn out the lights. The party is over. The Head Coach and the Qb are both delusional. In the post game on SNY they both kept saying they got away from the run because of the score. It was 10-7 at halftime and we got the kickoff. Both of these guys are nuts. What does it say about the team when it has the ball for 36 minutes and holds Manning to 9-27 passing and we still lose the game? What an embarrssment. We had one guy who earned his check today (Revis). We have given up 74 points the last 2 weeks in must win games.Ryan imho has regressed more this year than Sanchez.Just a horrible job of coaching most of the year.

    • avatar Joe Solyndra says:

Quick, name the 2 factors that put NE at the top every year in the AFC East. Right. Same 2 will hold these SOJ back until Woody admits the mistakes. Not an accident that no other NFL team , including all the cellar dwellers, has an immature, downright obnoxious head coach. “shut the f&&k up”, is not leadership. It indicates a lack of self control that plays out in the preparation. Ryan is exactly .500 in his last 16, and has been absolutely smoked by every good team, without exception. They laugh at him. He has so little ability to control himself that he has to have surgery to keep from weighing 400 pounds, and still looks like a blimp.

Sanchild had 5 turnovers, but two were called back by use of micron photography and some nanny state ref rules. The poor kid is simply not capable of doing what is being asked of him.

Rex now has to convince these idiots (and is there a duo of stupidity anywhere that can match Cro and Tone?) that the last 5 “must wins” were really not, and now Miami is? Please. Just shut the f&&k up.

      • avatar jerk says:

“Nep “Holmes is going no where he just signed a 5 year ten million $ contract I think place helped Our redzone o tremendously. Lt also has a hf left of good football, great pass blocker and receiver, place is also a great blocker. I agree folk,Conley, and hunter need 2 be gone. Smith can n will stay but only 2 special teams. Scott should be replaced if we can find the guy for the job and Scott should be asked 2 take a pay cut n will get sum play rotating in occasionally in the middle n to blitz occassionally. Leonard same thing we have 2 find the guy for the job n just let him go unless he will agree to play special teams. Lastly pool should still be here n be used in the same role the 3rd guy n he gets sum play wen starters r tiried or hurt.

  10. avatar Nep Oznat says:

Let’s hope Miami shuts us out to make sure Schotty is HISTORY!

What would be the point of getting in the playoffs with this pathetic team. One & out? whooopppeeee. I’d rather start thinking about next year by tearing down the useless parts of the team and workig on rebuilding. Starting with Schotty, continuing with Plaxico, Holmes, Hunter, LaDainian, Pool, Smith, Scott, Conley, Folk.

Wow, have WE got a ways to go…………

  11. avatar MetalVagabond says:

there’s other teams that would trade the 69 SB win for not having anything, I’m still mad about drafting Kyle Brady in 95 or 96 no.1 and the other stupid no.1 picks over the years, this is a talented team that plays like a bad team

  12. avatar TOPPIN says:

Come on people……..And by some miracle they do get in. What……this team will man up and play great! We’ve seen 16games from this team. The offense is avg at best. The D is good not great. Sorry,Whatever.

Hate to say this YET again….There’s next year. Go jets I guess.

  13. avatar gary s. says:

Good job.I agree.Everyone you named needs to go.Especially the wideouts.Last week look at me Holmes celebrating dwon 28-3 and today look at, aren’t i great Plaxico taking bows in the end zone after he pushed off and got a flag for a TD that was called back. The head coach has created this atmosphere. There is no accountability. You better shut up and caoch better next year Rex.

  14. avatar Tot says:

No honest Jets fan believes that this team has what it takes to make it to and/or win the Super Bowl this year. Given this reality, I prefer that they lose to Miami. It will mean a better draft pick, and make it more likely/easy for Rex to make some wholesale changes to the players/coaching staff.

  15. avatar Ken says:

    My thoughts? Who cares!!!
I don’t want the Jets to make the playoffs.
They don’t deserve it. They haven’t played
like a playoff team all season.
Hopefully, not making the playoffs will get Rex
to shut his big mouth and get back to coaching.

  16. avatar Broadway12 says:

This was a DISGRACE! this team has had their destiny in their hands weeks ago and blew it against DENVER,EAGLE,Giants if they would have won any of those they would be in good shape! I really hope that the HC and the QB said they went away from the run as to not THROW SHOTTY under the bus! But with 5 and change on the CLOCK and down by 6 on the 50 and go 3 and out on 3 pass plays was foolhardy

    • That series summed up that clown schotty perfectly. I cannot for the life of me undertand why we didn’t run it on first down there. I honestly think schotty is anti run because it doesn’t show his creativeness. Let’s face it, no oc becomes a head coach because of a dominating run game. That absolutely has to be in his mind when abandons the run game like he did today.

  17. avatar surely you jets says:

What about our chances to not be a joke franchise for another forty years? Any thoughts on those?

  18. avatar mm in md says:

please make it stop! this team has no business going to the playoffs. not after today’s debacle, or last week’s, or the denver game — i could go on. this head coach needs to do some soul searching, he can’t go on committing the same mistakes his coaches and the guys who wear green and white each week seem to do. their one quality win this year was the … chargers!!?! come on, man.

  19. avatar jayjet says:

NY JOKES!THAT’s THE GMENS HOUSE THANKS JETS LOSERS!

  20. avatar Jason says:

We have a coach that has so much of a foot fetish that he can’t stop putting his feet in his mouth! Im sick of this pompous invionment he’s created and encouraged. Holmes celebration last week while trailing 28-9 was unforgettably hideous. He’s got to go (but won’t). At least take that c off his chest. We definitely need a new OC. Mayby tom Moore will take the job permanently. Also, I would try to find out if bill cowher would have any interest in being the Hc of nyj.

  21. avatar F 16 says:

Just End The Season, and put me out of my misery.

  22. avatar JUSTWINBABY says:

Dont be in denial jets fans this team will not beat a hot miami team. So let’s not even talk playoff scenario. To my understanding the same oc and qb will b playing in that game also so what makes anybody think the results will be any different. So let’s start looking to next year is there anychance that peyton or mc nabb could be a jet next year? And as far as oc is concern who would be available and would be best at taking the jets to that next level

  23. avatar Joey The Jet says:

why are we still talking about the playoffs?playoffs?we dont deserve to be in the playoffs

    • avatar JUSTWINBABY says:

Because some of us jets fans are in denial and believe that our team will magically fix the many flaws we have in one week and go on some type of miraculous winning street. The chance of that happening is as much as having a white xmas

  24. avatar Tot says:

Every week during his post game remarks, Sanchez talks about his usual mistakes and poor play, and says “that can’t happen,” which drives me crazy because it “happens” again the following week. Enough with “that can’t happen” Sanchez. It “can” and “does” happen, with depressing regularity. How about actually CORRECTING things?

  25. avatar Jazzeum says:

Chances are poor, as well they should be. I really don’t understand the playcalling. It was backasswards. I don’t think Sanchez is the answer. He seemed to go backwards again.

Maybe it would be best if they miss the playoffs and improve draft position.

  26. avatar Joey The Jet says:

rex is losing his team, why did he take jacobs the f word after the game?take ur whooppings like a man fatso

  27. avatar JUSTWINBABY says:

Jets mets suck azz. Knick? If we lose to boston tom I will lose it. I bet if the giants had played another team this weak other than the jets they prob would have lost thto. Come on knicks do something the jets don’t know how to do win. And win big

    • avatar Jason says:

Yup time to turn the attention to the Knickerbockers. But have patience with them. They are going to need time to gel. But we’ve made some good moves!

  28. avatar Joey The Jet says:

bradshaw just dissed rex,its getting uglier fast

  29. avatar Broadway12 says:

I’m still a REX fan but he has to take control of what goes on with this team on the offense side of the ball. Your the HC for a reason! How do you not tell SHOTTY you have to run if thats the vision you had when you got here? Hopefully SHOTTY will be out and they will persuade Moore to unretire or even elevate Callahan who was pretty good as an OC in Oakland. But it has to be a guy that already has experience. Not a guy who they say is young and bright

  30. avatar karl hungus says:

we have no chance, and we dont deserve to be in the playoffs. period.

They will lose to Miami, then they need to fire Shotty, and hit a home run or 5 in the draft.

The defense is a safety and LB away from being great again, the offense needs to be blown up and start over. it is horrid.

  31. avatar WesleyWalker Was Awesome says:

at this point, it would be nice if they could get in and beat houston in rd 1, but……the only things on my mind are new draftees of OLB, S, OT, K, P and blocking TE…………not in any particular order……and that all comes after Jets find a new OC to replace schitty…..sanchez gets one more chance next year to improve….

  32. avatar Neal says:

How come no one is talking about getting a WR. Holmes is good but he can’t beat double coverages we need someone to take the pressure off of him. Btw season is over this team ain’t beating miami, the way both are playing.

    • avatar Randy says:

Bring back Braylon.Holmes worked really well with Edwards.I know people love the idea of bringing Plax back too..but he really takes away a lot of chemistry we had before he came here.A combo of Holmes/Edwards and Kerley..along with Keller and a new RT would be a step in the right direction.A new coordinator and we will be back in business.

  33. avatar Ken says:

Fire Ryan, Schottenheimer and get a new starting QB. Realistically only Schotty goes and the Jets will be stuck with Ryan and Sanchez for a few years. Enough of the baby games, if you want to win try to trade for Peyton and get a professional head coach in here.
Please,Please,Please get rid of Smith, Hunter, Mulligan and Conley….Please, Mr. Tannenbaum, I beg you please get rid of these players.

    • avatar Johnny Reefer says:

Little quick to fire the best HC this team has ever had? Maybe??

I mean the Steelers have down years but the reason they win is because they keep their coaches, what the had 3? maybe 4?

    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

T was the one who doomed the season by trying to save pennies and neglecting and downgrading key areas! He should just stick to counting beans and leave the personnel needs to the football people. He is just an accountant basically.

  34. avatar WesleyWalker Was Awesome says:

we are stuck with holmes for a few years due to his cap figure…..they can replace plax with braylon or another FA next year

  35. avatar Mattsell says:

The other thing that needs to happen: Santonio Holmes will probably at some point – and I’m just spitballing here – nee to catch a pass and then…stay with me here…hold onto it even if he’s tackled. I know! Crazy right?!

    • avatar Jason says:

That’s kind of a lot to ask of him. Remember, his mind is flooded with all of the wonderful choreography he’s prepared for our (errr his) enjoyment. I hope when one of the Dolphins strips the ball from him next week, he’ll also strip the C off his chest. Him as a “captain” on a team I root for is embarrasing!

    • avatar ssx tricky says:

Woah lets not be too crazy here that’s impossible for him.

  36. avatar Mike says:

They don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. The loss was not Shottys fault. Sanchez is just a lousey QB. He stares down recievers, can’t pump fake, and is very in-accurate. The game was over when they couldn’t move the ball from mid field with over 5 minutes left. I must say I have beun to agree with all the play by play people. SANCHEZ IS AN AVERAGE QB AT BEST.

    • avatar Johnnyjetson says:

Dude i dont know what game or games u have been watching. This season is 75 percent schittys fault. Jets were running the ball at 5 yards per carry and this idiot decides to throw the ball 65 times!!! U guys forget about the 5 sacks given up today. The actual numbers of passes would have been 65!!!

  37. avatar Josh says:

Lets face the facts. At the end of the day, we have a halfway decent chance of actually making the playoffs and beating Houston in the first round. But this is not a good team. We’re 1-6 against teams with a winning record. Pathetic. And Shottenheimer is horrendous. You can’t call yourself ground and pound and then have 64 passing plays. WTF

  38. avatar Mattsell says:

Eh I have been inclined to defend Sanchez because he has no time to throw. But then I watch stafford who also has very little time to throw go and be amazing. And he does it with no running game. So im starting to doubt if Sanchez can get it done. Of course Stafford has megatron and some very good receivers. Our number 1 receiver sucks. Smart money is still on not overreacting and giving Sanchez another year with a better line and a full offseason. I can’t help but think a lot of the sloppiness on both sides has to do with overly complicated play books and very little training camp to learn them. Also when I’m watching I feel like our receivers are rarely ever wide open. Maybe because i watch too many Patriots games (living in NE) I have an unrealistic expectation of what being open looks like. But it just seems like the receivers are as much to blame as anyone.

    • avatar Johnnyjetson says:

No ur right. Our wrs are never open because we never take a shot down field and scare the defense. Everything is dink and dunk so teams play close to the LOS and thats why the wrs are never open

      • avatar MattSell says:

But in fairness that goes back to having no time to throw. While I agree that this offense is vanilla and very dink and dunk, when Sanchez does drop back to let a play develop he seems to get hit or pushed out of the pocket right away. Or the receiver runs the wrong route/Sanchez makes the wrong read. Honestly the long throw to Keller last week is one of the few big plays I can remember. I was one of the people kicking and screaming last offseason when they let Braylon go. Holmes is ridiculously overrated. I mean Holmes dropped several big passes last year (Bears game anyone?) and Braylon had like two drops all year and I felt proved himself. And I’m totally saying I told you so right now because why not?

  39. avatar tom says:

Im not gonna even waste my time to watch this team next week. Tired of watching Shotty playcalling. Our offense has been a major problem all season. Fire shotty please! When did the brass decide that we were a 50-60 pass attempt team. We don’t even have the personal to be that kind of team. We are a run first team &u play action. Sanchez will never carry this team by himself even if we had Jerry Rice & Michael Irvin. If that’s d direction they want to go Sanchez is not that kind of qb!!!! One good thing about not reaching playoffs is hopefully they will fire Shotty

  40. avatar Noah Baron says:

The only realistic move in the offseason is Schottenheimer getting fired, and while Ryan isn’t great, he has done some great things in the past, such as out coaching Bill Belichick in the playoffs last year. They have to accept the fact that Sanchez isn’t great and run the ball more next year. In the draft, they have to look for help on the offensive line, some line backers, and receivers. If you can’t help one of those areas in the draft, you pick up players in the offseason. I hate to say it, but the Jets are the Sanchize, and will be the Sanchize for a very long time, and theres nothing we can do about it.

  41. avatar Noah Baron says:

And if anybody cares about or playoff hopes, Jacksonville ALMOST beat the Titans, which would have helped the Jets so much. U guys are right, I don’t think the Jets deserve to make the playoffs, but do the Titans do? Maybe the Texans do because of there messed up QB situation, but the Titans? I hope u guys realize they lost to Indianapolis.

  42. avatar F 16 says:

On to bigger and better things… so how’s the draft shaping up?

  43. avatar Chrebookie says:

    from the bookie himself….
Our chances are better than you are all alluding to.
Ill be wearing my green on Jan 7 or 8, you should too.

  44. This team does NOT deserve to make the playoffs!!

  45. avatar Hesh says:

They were awful all year, other then Revis and Harris, no one on this team deserves to be in the playoffs. We got spoiled lastvtwo years. I hope we don’t look back as those being our Good Times.

  46. avatar wunky says:

A lot of so-called Jet fans hoping to lose. I understand the frustration but hoping your own team loses?

  47. avatar tom says:

I hate to say it as much as Rex came in &I changed the culture around this team if we can go out & get Bill Cower I would do it!! Rex has done a good job but i believe getting Cower is d only thing that will really turn this franchise around..It wont happen but im all for it! Im not sure Rex’s brash talk will bring us a championship! No coach with his style has ever won a championship

  48. avatar Johnnyjetson says:

I think the higher powers are handcuffing rex with schitty. I think rex might be afraid to be in schittys face since he knows tanny has schittys back. What else could it be??

  49. avatar ab6336 says:

Said it before, I will say again. Ryan is a loudmouth who doesn’t have the knowledge to bring a team to a superbowl. His constant comments put undue stress on his players. This team needs a HC with the knowlege and tempermant to lead and teach his players. Ryan isn’t that guy

  50. avatar matt says:

rex, team looks sloppy like uncommitted professionals. How are your practices, probably too lax… what does The Captain Santonio do in his off time… defense is good not dominent, offense is avg which equals a slightly above avg team…lose better draft pick next year….

  51. avatar matt says:

i question the attention to details during the weeks of practice… However in Rex’s defense less bufoon in game calls. like poor clock managment and challenges then his previous years…

  52. avatar frank cin says:

did that headline for this thread say the word “playoffs” !!!! are you kidding me!!! the Jets will be the 8-8 team I predicted after they beat SD. I hoped I was wrong but let’s face it this team is mediocre-not bad but not near a playoff team.

Cowher was lucky to win a SB in Pitt. He’s a good coach but overrated. Pitt drafts well and gave him a lot of talent to work with. I’d like to see what he’d do with a Tampa bay now…

  53. avatar frank cin says:

do you ever wonder how a guy like Brian Schott.. ever got this job? other than being born to a football family what has he done to deserve 6 years as an OC.He was a QB coach in SD–big deal. The first year with Pennington (06)he was decent but I think having Pennington made him look better than he was. same for Kyle Shanahan and a lot of these other clowns that come from NFL coaching DNA but really aren’t any good. nepotism is alive & well in the NFL and planet earth. pretty pathetic though

  54. avatar gary s. says:

They need to take a look at getting Peyton Manning in green next year.I can’t make excuses for Sanchez anymore. He’s not very good. They can bring in all the coordinators they want, nobody can teach him how to accurate.Rither you have it or you don’t.Pennington was accurate from the minute he stepped on the field.Injuries did him in.Sanchez can’t hit the broad side of a barn half the time after 3 years.GET PEYTON!!!!!!!

  55. avatar sjfalcon2001 says:

The answer on this one is simple. Schottenheimer must go. Enough is enough. The offense is the main problem and it is play calling more than anything else. Promote Callahan or bring Moore in to replace him.
After that we need to draft or sign a proven RT to replace Hunter, A Safety or LB that can cover a TE or Slot receiver when a team like the Pats goes 5 wide, and a true pass rushing DE. I am also not convinced that Greene is the answer as a #1 RB
Rex also needs to get tougher with the players as well. If I see Santonio do his first down celebration again I am going to throw my TV, let alone TD celebrations when we are down by 3 TDs. (and I agree with stripping his Captaincy)

  56. avatar sjfalcon2001 says:

After all that, those who want Cowher or Manning are living a pipe dream.

Manning is old, has bad knees and no one knows what he will be like after his injury and a full year off. This isn’t the same QB from 5 years ago. I’m ok with bringing in a veteran QB other than Brunell who can actually challenge Sanchez for the top QB spot, but I still think Sanchez has hope. After all, Trent Dilfer has a SB ring.

Cowher is a big name in the coaching ranks but honestly I don’t think that is a problem for us. Rex is a good coach who inherited a lousy OC. Look at his record: 3 seasons, 2 consecutive AFC Championship games and potentially one just miss. The only coach in the last 25 years of Jets history who have that kind of a record is Parcells. You can’t win every year. Besides, whose to say Cowher would be good now? He’s been doing TV for too long. If we fired Rex and signed Cowher, I’d predict he’d be gone in 3-4 years max like Parcells was. He’d come in and then leave the team high and dry and searching again in another 3 years. I’d rather have stability.

  57. avatar Randy says:

I say our chances of making the playoffs are 50/50

I think we WILL beat Miami.I think the Ravens WILL beat the Bengals because the Ravens are trying to clinch their division. That leaves the Texans vs Titans and Raiders and Chargers.I think the Texans have a chance..but much like the game they played against the Bengals..it will be too close to call but they are still playing for a bye week. The chargers will have to do their part at Oakland.Actally more I think about it..we still have some hope.I don’t see the Bengals winning this week and somebody has to get that 6th spot.

    • avatar wunky says:

they just flexed the Ravens-Bengals to 4pm. Luckily they also flexed the Steelers game to 4pm, so the Ravens will have to play.

What’s good about this is Houston will not see the Steelers blowing out the Browns in the first half and turn it off — they’ll still be alive for a bye.

  58. avatar Barbella says:

News Flash – I think Miami is a better team than Giants. So my question to Rex Ryan is, what are we gonna do differently next week?

Are we gonna abandon the run? Are we gonna fall behind and pass ever down? Ya’know we can’t block, so that makes no sense!

Can Kyle Wilson contain Reggie Bush, or his he gonna get punked like he did by Mike Vick?

Don’t worry about Raiders, Broncos. Worry about the Jets!

  59. avatar Jets babyyy says:

this should be Rex Ryan’s answer lol.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7fjDS0jKiE

    Merry Xmas Go Jets

  60. avatar dsch says:

I don’t even have confidence the Jets will do their part and beat Miami, so the rest is just bla bla.
Face it everyone, this Jets team was made worse over the offseason but Rex and his staff didn’t realize it. They have a lot of soul-searching and studying to do to turn this mess around.

  61. avatar Jets babyyy says:

@ Joey Yea its freaken awesome now that coach has balls to accept they messed up. To bad he got fired after that but he owned up to it.

And in our case Coaches and the front offices need to own up to what they did. Players will work with what they have.

Lets cross our fingers that the Chargers lose so they can fire Norv Turner, and we can get him forget Payton Manning Norv will put us back in the game.

  62. avatar Ken says:

Sign either Flynn from Green Bay or Campbell from the Raiders and trade Sanchez to the Seahawks for their first round pick. Sign Laron Landry from the Redskins and draft an OT and OLB(kid from Alabama). In the second round draft a WR(Toon) and in the 3rd another OLB. Fire Schotty and bring in someone from the Packers or New Orleans to replace him. Sign Tolbert or Grant for an additional RB and drop Tomlinson. If Ryan does not with with this team next year fire him.

  63. avatar Hangar says:

even if they get in, they are one and done. Lose next week and get a beter pick. As for Sanchez, he is one tough kid but is not an elite QB. Feel sorry for him as the OC has put him in some very tough positions.

Let’s all face it now He is OBing this team next year hopefully with a new OC. I also agree, Rex needs to shut up..

  64. avatar Hangar says:

do you really believe they have even a 1% shot…lets get real here. Anyone who understands football knows this team is not going anywhere. Nice run but time to start over. Sanchez has one more shot..that being next year to prove something. I like the kid and am pulling for him. Let’s get rid of Schotty and see what he can do under a new OC. My fear is he will not be any beter. He is too short and lacks the arm.

    • avatar wunky says:

If the Jets were to qualify for the playoffs, I would say they definitely have at least a 1% chance to win a couple of games, yes.

  65. avatar wunky says:

According to Pro-Football Forecaster, the Texans are 86% to win their game, Ravens are 53% to win, Raiders are 54% to win, and Denver is 62% to win. The Dolphins are at 61% to win.

That, all added up, gives the Jets a 11.64% to get the berth. Cincy at 68%, Raiders 17%, Titans 3.72%

On the other side, they have the Giants at 59%.

I know some people here want to move up in the draft 2-3 spots, and/or don’t want this team to make it because they are upset or think they don’t deserve it, but I would give almost anything for the 5% that we are preparing for the playoffs next week, and the 8-8 Giants are going home a third straight season.

  66. avatar Joe Solyndra says:

16 teams lost yesterday, and probably 28 coaches are unhappy with their team’s execution. But only one coach is getting laughed at. Only one coach is being mocked by columnists across the country. Ours. And he deserves it. Not a winning strategy

  67. avatar PVS53 says:

The Phins will end the season with a win over the disappointing Jets. Jets will finish the season 8-8. Not much more can be said but SAD. Jets need quite a bit of Christmas wishes in the off season on both offense and defense.

  68. avatar Ken says:

It’s not just the OC, Sanchez has a limit to how good he is going to be. Some of the throws he makes shows he does not see things quick enough and his pocket awareness is bad. Also, he tends to throw too high.

  69. avatar RDubbs says:

I’ve been a die-hard Jet fan for decades but I have to say they have no business being in the playoffs this year. Simply put they are not talented nor coached well enough to be in this year’s playoffs. What a letdown …

  70. avatar MikeJet says:

At this point, I’d rather see them miss the playoffs, because hopefully it will wake some people up in the front office as to how flawed this team is.

Simply put, the offensive line does not protect the QB, the WR’s can’t catch and when they do, they don’t hang on to the ball and we have problems defending any passes over the middle of the field. Good luck Tanny!

  71. avatar Chris r says:

Texans will rest and if they don’t they are not that good anyway. We need a great qb to win sb and we clearly don’t have one. Teams that have won sb last 4 yrs gb, no, pit, giants. I say trade anyone including revis to get first pick in draft. Rex is a good coach but to be great he has to admit he missed on Sanchez and fix it. Okay maybe I am a Little delusional from loss yesterday so don’t trade revis, trade anyone else. What do you think bent?

  72. avatar Jmackshizzle D Nizzle says:

You know you’re bad when you lose to that team! But I can’t see a new off coord being any better with Hunter getting beat very play, D’Brick back peddling every play from a bull rush. With that being said, it’s time to try something new & he should be gone!

They have a lot of work to do this off-season! They should look to play Broncos ball. 8 passes (6 of them being screens) max for Dirty! Plax, Keller, Holmes… Quit your crying! You guys couldn’t get open in our flag football league!

  73. avatar Crispy says:

I am not a Jets fan. I cant understand why alot of you are giving up completely? The Jets have a very good defense and an offence that I would rank as just below average. I think if the Jets do make the playoffs, they actually could do something magical. They have alot of talent on both sides of the ball, and have not played their best game(s) yet. They honestly could be a force in the playoffs. (and this is coming from a Pats fan!) Can any of you see that they truly could do something remarkable this year?

  74. avatar NADA says:

    Crispy,
We lost to the Patriots twice this season and they dont even have a defense! What could the Jets do against Pitsburgh or Baltimore?

  75. avatar C Low says:

I THINK THE TITALNS, BRONCOS AND BENGALS WILL LOSE, BUT SO WILL THE JETS.

FACE IT, WE SUCK!!!!!!! I LOVE MY JETS BUT LETS ZOOM OUT AND FACE REALITY, THIS TEAM HAS SHOWN NOTHING.

IT HAS SPIT THE REX VERBAL BIT ALL YEAR.

NO RUN GAME, SLIGHTLY ABOVE AVERAGE DEFENSE AND SPRINKLE IN TURNOVERS AND PENALTIES WHICH STUNT THE GROWTH OF ANY POTENTIAL GROUND GAME.

LETS GET RGIII OR TRENT RICHARDSON IN THE DRAFT.

  76. avatar C Low says:

SANCHEZ IS SO OVER-RATED. THE DUDE LOCKS INTO THE CHECK DOWN RECEIVER FROM WHEN THE BALL IS HIKED. NO CHANCE TO DO ANYTHING PRODUCTIVE.

    WHEN
    WAS
    THE
    LAST
    TIME
    SANCHEZ
    THREW
    A
    DEEP
    BALL
    THAT

    OUT
    OF
    BOUNDS?

  77. avatar Crsipy says:

NADA…..exactly! The Jets lost to the Pats twice this season. The Patriots have a HORRIBLE defense, yet they can clinch home field advantage with a win next week. You can win with weaknesses. The Jets have the talent to play through their weaknesses and just win. I can honestly say I would still be nervous playing the Jets in the playoffs. The Jets actually have MORE talent on their team than New England! If the Jets win the SB this year, you all remember your comments here!

    • avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

Crsipy – You seem like a nice person and the Pats have always been talented, however the Jets are not making the playoffs and if they do that will most likely be out after the first game. This is coming from a 37 year Jets fan.

Head coaching is everything in football. The niners were 6-10 last year and because of Harbaugh are vying for the #2 seed in the nfc with virtually the exact same team and a QB that was supposedely washed up. Belichick wins with a patch work O line and a D that sucks. Rex ryan is your problem, he’s a loud mouth who has no control over his team. How can anyone have control over their team when they can’t control their mouth (in how much goes in his mouth as well as what comes out of his mouth!) He has been fined repeatedly for shooting off at the mouth and will prob get fined again for his altercation with brandon jacobs after the game. Start a “Fire Rex Ryan” website or “Please Shut Your Big Fat Mouth Rex” website. Maybe he will get the drift!

  79. avatar Joey g says:

As a die hard jet fans I don’t want to see the jets make the playoffs this year. If you want to make the playoffs and make a super bowl you have to beat teams like ravens patriots giants. We lost to all them this year I just don’t even see us winning next week at Miami. We need to figure get the D and O Stronger . And FIRE Brian!!

Is it time to play that Gap band song yet?
