Breaking: Schottenheimer Gone; Jets to Hire Sparano

by Steiny on January 10th, 2012 at 11:18 pm

Rejoice. After weeks of speculation, the Jets have just announced that embattled offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has informed the team he will not return next season. According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the Jets are expected to hire former Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano as their new offensive coordinator as early as tomorrow.

Stay tuned for more..

I haven’t seen one post indicate this is a move that will secure a Super Bowl. No one is denying that personnel upgrades are in order as well but that portion of the offseason has not started yet.

Schotty’s resume as Jets’ OC is miserable; even when he had very talanted personnel. Even if Sporano proves to be a lateral move, a new voice might be what’s in order.

Do we? I sure as hell don’t. Head Coach of the most penalized team in nfl history. We dont need any more problems. And quite frankly hes an a** clown

  16. avatar Jolly Green Mangold says:

Just curious, what’s Sparano’s offensive reputation look like?

    • avatar ny213 says:

when he called plays in dallas they had the 5 ranked offense in 2006 that was romos first year so he has lots of experience with young qbs

      • avatar boogie down says:

Yeah, that year they ranked 5th in passing yards and 13th in rushing yards. Clearly, he wasn’t beholden to the run in spite of what his reputation may indicate.

  19. avatar Ryan says:

Good football mind with a very good pedigree and a bright future most likely. With that being said im glad hes gone, it just wasnt a fit. I will not however forget those games where he seemed to put out the perfect game plan and helped this team to some pretty big wins the last few years, but again im glad hes gone.

    • avatar JetsFans4GIANTS says:

Were you saying that when he was coaching the Dolphins? I don’t think so. Chad Henne is a better QB than Mark Sanchez; Brandon Marshall is better than any Jets WR; the Dolphins OL is better than the Jets’ OL; and their offense never finished in the top 10 during his tenure in Miami. What makes you think he will change the Jets?

      • avatar LeReviis says:

lol @ chad henne being better than Sanchez

      • avatar boogie down says:

Dude, before you go blasting people, at least read and properly comprehend their posts in their entirety!

“…[W]ith that being said, I’m glad he’s gone, it just wasn’t a fit.” That’s clearly a reference to Schotty; Nowhere in Ryan’s post does he even hint at discussing Sparano.

      • avatar lead the league in fcking wins says:

if flipper’s oline is so good and their receiver core is better than what the jets have, then how come henne couldnt throw more than 15 tds?

    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Are you kidding me, over an OC? OK, to each his own, lol. Lets not overreact please. No matter how good he is and thats debatable with .475 career record with the phins, we still need huge upgrades in talent and Sanchez has to come through. I see this as just a lateral move and that is all. Sparano is just average at best. The real differnce will come from our personnel moves.Put that in the bank!

      • avatar greg sec 336 no more says:

Would you please STOP IT ALREADY!

This is the only move they can make until March when the league starts. All your calls for all the other moves you want them to make can’t be done until then. This was the ONLY move they could make in Jaunary to improve the team, and they did it. SO excuse us for being ecstatic and feeling like finally the front office is headed in the right direction this offseason. NOBODY believes this is the only thing that needed correcting, we all just thought it was the first, minor change (that they had never made before).

        • avatar joeyboy79 says:

February 13th Free Agency starts so there, lol. All this fuss over hiring a guy whose offense declined EVERY year since he was with the phins! Talk about jumping from the frying pan into the fire! The phin fans hate him down there as much as we hate shotty up here for the same reason of being too conservative. T is on a roll!

  23. avatar SackDance99 says:

I also like the fact that Sparano will be OC. Who better to understand the weaknesses of the Jets offense? He faced us a bunch of times and has to have a good idea about how to improve the offense. And, he’ll know who to show the door. I’d say more Wildcat is a certainty as is more of a power running game.

    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

He couldnt improve his own offense. He finished the phins with a .475 pct.

      • avatar SackDance99 says:

There are some coordinators that are just not good HCs. Wade Phillips, Marty Mohrningweg, Cam Cameron, Mike Nolan. Sparano was known as an OL maven, a good developer of TEs and good at developing QBs. As much as you hate Tanny, he’s George Young compared to Jeff Ireland. So, with better OL personnel, a better TE, better RBs and a better QB, together with a GM and owner committed to winning an SB, Sparano should have better success. I would say it’s a lock that the running game will instantly be more dynamic. And, I’ll be very interested to see what he can do with Keller and Cumberland, not to mention Kerley in the Wildcat.

    • avatar JetsFans4GIANTS says:

Wildcat? Do you know anything about football? The Wildcat was a gimmick offensive formation that has become absolutely irrelevant & unproductive the past couple seasons. How many team’s ran the Wildcat this season & are still playing football? Do not say the Broncos; they run a spread option with Tebow & it is only effective because Tebow is & was probably the best spread option QB in college football history. Even the Broncos had to drop back & pass the ball to get this far. The problem is Sanchez, not the coach. Thisnis like plugging a dam leak with your finger. Changing OCs does NOTHING to change the personnel problems that were the real problem behind the Jets’ offensive futility this season. Look at the teams & their QBs who are still playing: Packers (Rodgers); Saints (Brees); 49ers (Smith); Giants (ELIte Manning); Patriots (Brady); Ravens (Flacco); Texans (Yates); and Broncos (Tebow). 5 of those 8 teams have a QB who can put up 300-plus yards any given week & carry their team. The 3 that don’t, 49ers, Texans & Broncos, all have dominant running backs & running games to go long with great defenses, led by dominant pass rushers. The Jets don’t have a QB who can carry this team nor do they have a great RB & dominant running game to compensate for the QB’s weaknesses. The Jets defense is okay, but no longer great, they’re aging quick, and most importantly they don’t have any pass rushers. Again, the issue is & was the personnel, nit Schotty. Once this offense shows little to no improvement under Sparano, maybe, just maybe you guys will finally realize that.

      • avatar Olive says:

Sack knows plenty about football you troll. This isn’t a giants blog. If you want to jump on a bandwagon go for it but on this site theres only one wagon right now: Tony Sparano

        Go Packers…Giants fans deserve nothing

      • avatar Dawg1331 says:

Oh really, that’s why Eli started getting good when the giants made a change at OC. Your a clown who talks out of his ass.

          Easy Dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Eli also had a solid team around him.His O line back then was rock solid. That is what Sanchez needs to develop AS A qb and it could also be possible.

        • avatar JetsFans4GIANTS says:

When did the Giants make a change at OC? Tom Coughlin’s first year with the Giants was Eli’s first year & his OC then is the same OC now, Kevin Gillbride. Who’s talking out of his ass?

          • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Sanchez was coming along fine and management dropped the ball this season. With some positive changes and a better supporting cast around him, he can be a solid qb. All your stats mean nothing as results are more important. Sanchez has shown that he can win with the right players around him. Due to circumstances ,the jury is out on sanchez. JetsFans4GIANTS, you sound like you just enjoy bashing sanchez, but are not looking at the entire picture!

          • avatar joeyboy79 says:

I am not counting the gmen out. They were right there with them the last game and that was when they were without their pass rush and missing key players. Now all thier pass rushes are back. Their secondary was also having huge communication problems which now has been resolved. Their run game has opened up again and they are amped up. They are much better than the first time they played the packers and the packers oline is banged up and with the giants fierce pass rush, not a good combo for the packers. The packers have been off for a few weeks and the giants are hitting their apex. No way am I counting them out.

Great opinion. Also, Sparano was an OL coach in Dallas. Helps fills the void left by Callahan.

      • avatar boogie down says:

It’s interesting that he was the OL coach and was given the play-calling duties in 2006, before handing them off to the then-wunderkind, Jason Garrett, in 2007. What happened to the Cowboys’ OC in 2006?

  29. avatar Jon says:

I want to see at least 4 40 yard passes a game. This is why we should have kept Braylon. He opened up the field. I want to see deep balls to Holmes and Kerley. Keller needs to be involved and we need to give McKnight a try. Our year boys!! Lets get a good draft pick and start their!

    • avatar JetsFans4GIANTS says:

You just don’t get it, do you? The lack of deep passes for the Jets was not a result of Schotty not calling them; it was because Mark Sanchez couldn’t complete them. I’m not going to go into my whole analysis, again, and argue with another Jets fan who refuses to accept what statistics tell them about a player. Just please, take a look at the link below and then tell me why would any OC who is interested in keeping the ball more than 3 downs, let alone his job, would ask Mark Sanchez to throw the ball deep even once in a game.

      http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2011/05/10/going-deep/

      • avatar Ghost On says:

Hey, did you look at the link before you posted it? what is that supposed to prove? Peyton was 4 spots higher on deep throw completion %. The diff was 2%…does that mean peyton should never throw it deep? Obviously not. Stupid post.

Although, considering peyton’s neck…and the stinger Sanchez had in his…hmm…

      • avatar viguy007 says:

The Chart indicates Mark was a good deep ball passer. You must have misread it, or assumed you knew what it was saying. Read it again.

” The lack of deep passes for the Jets was not a result of Schotty not calling them; it was because Mark Sanchez couldn’t complete them.”

He attempted three of them all season. Three! He threw 26 in the two season before that. What does that have to do with an inability to complete them?

  30. avatar Genedog65 says:

Is he the man who tells the guys where to go?

  31. avatar JACK THE FOOTBALL GURU says:

Who knows how Sparano would do. All I know is the Jets offense needed a remodeling and that is happening. A capable offense with a better Mark and a renewed elite defense next year = recipe for success…

By the way, I know Nick Folk is under contract, but… Jay Feely is a free agent. Boy do I miss Jay Feely.

    • avatar JetsFans4GIANTS says:

A renewed, elite defense is a lot to ask for. The players on defense are getting old & 2012 brings about just another year on their tired legs. The defense was on the field A LOT this year due to the offense’s futility. If I were you, I would hope & pray that there is not a significant decline in the defensive performance & leave “renewed, elite defense” alone. Defenses age at a pace much quicker than offenses, aside from RBs, due to the constant contact on every play. Defenses in the NFL are like starting pitchers in the MLB. Aside from very few, young, elite pitchers, when a pitcher throws 200-plus innings in any given season, you can almost bank on either declined production the following year or a significant injury. Increased age only increases that likelihood. I would expect a significant decline in the Jets’ defense in 2012. I hope I’m wrong because I love watching the Jets’ defense when it’s clicking on all cylinders, but this is a proven trend that I don’t see getting past the Jets.

      • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Excellent points. We know we need youth and speed. Hopefully it will be addressed.

      • avatar SackDance99 says:

This is such a wrong-headed opinion that I have to laugh. Defensive players usually have far longer careers than offensive players. The Jets have a ton of youth on defense. Where’s the age? Pouha is the oldest Jet, but he started his career at 26, so he doesn’t have a lot of tread on his tires. Besides Scott and Pace, the rest of the starters and key subs are under 30 and most are in their mid-20s. The Jets D is surprisingly young, with guys like Revis, Harris, Cro not in their primes and Wilkerson, Maybin and Wilson are under 25. The Jets D old? Just not true.

        • avatar SackDance99 says:

I meant to say “tread gone” from his tires as Pouha has only been a starter 1 season and a regular for 3 seasons.

    • avatar JetsFans4GIANTS says:

NEVER happening. Aaron Rodgers can make every throw, especially the deep pass, with impeccable accuracy. Accuracy isn’t taught or developed at thisnstage of a QBs career. The only time Sqnchez and Rodgers should ever be used in the same sentence is when you are using an example of the best starting QB in the NFL compared to the worst.

      Alex Smith > Mark Sanchez
      Tim Tebow > Mark Sanchez
      Chad Henne > Mark Sanchez

It’s jackasses like you that bolster the widely accepted position that Jets fans are the most unintelligent fan base regarding football knowledge in the NFL. Let me guess, you’re one of the fans who think MJD & Peyton Manning are coming to the Jets, right? You’re a joke, dude. I speak the truth & you get offensive. I don’t hate the Jets, I just hate idiot fans like you who can’t come up with a logical argument so you resort to hate. Debate me, punk. Tell me why I’m wrong. Why is a Giant fan like yourself on a Jet blog??? Your team is in the playoffs, with a very good chance to beat the Packers on Sunday, and your so preoccupied with the Jets that you have to spend all day on a Jet blog fighting with Jet fans???

What this shows is that despite all the Giants titles and all their success, the Giant fan is still threatened by the success of the Jets. Just like Mike Francesa, you hide behind your statement of “just stating the facts”, but its clear as day how jealous you are of the Jets and their success, despite the Giants success. That, my friend, shows how truly sad the Giant fan is.

When the Giants were choking away the last 2 seasons, as Desean Jackson broke your little hearts, I never heard 1 Jet fan call WFAN celebrating Giant losses, or I never spent 1 minute on a Giants blog rubbing it in.

When the Jets were winning playoff games, I couldnt care less about the Giants, all I cared about was my team.

But when the Jets lose, Giant fans cant be happier. You, as a Giant fan, seem more concerned about the Jets than your own team. This either makes you a very jealous Giants fan, or someone that has nothing else better to do than spend all day on blogs. Either way, you are a total loser, and in need of a hobby.

Get off this blog and start using energy rooting for your own team, you pathetic excuse for both a Giant fan and a human being in general!!!

          • avatar Revis Christ says:

Why are some giants fans so short sighted. one year Eli finally does what he gets paid to do and carries their team to squeak into the playoffs, and now their trolling a jets sight writing paragraphs upon paragraphs of bias hatred.

      • avatar boogie down says:

*FYI, I’m using third overall year in the NFL, not as the starter*

        Sanchez: 3474 yds, 26 pass TD, 18 INT, 56.7% comp, 78.2 RTG

        Roethlisberger: 3513 yds, 18 TD, 23 INT, 59.7% comp, 75.4 RTG

        Eli: 3244 yds, 24 TD, 18 INT, 57.7% comp, 77.0 RTG

Brees (played only 11 games, so I’ll provide his 16-game pace): 3066 yds, 16 TD, 22 INT, 57.6% comp, 67.5 RTG

The latter three are clearly elite, Super Bowl-winning, franchise QB’s. While we can debate the probability that Sanchez reaches such a level, I think we can agree that the book hasn’t been written yet.

        • avatar Ben Nevis says:

          +1

What boogie down said. Also, if I remember correctly, in his first four years in the league, HOFer Steve Young had a worse completion percentage than Sanchez has in his first three years.

And, oh, yes, good-bye, Schotty, good-bye!

        • avatar JetsFans4GIANTS says:

Using third year in the NFL stats is BS & you chose to use them only to bolster your position. There is a HUGE difference between 3rd year in the NFL & 3rd full year as a starter. When you go into the season as the starter, the QB is in a leadership role, takes OTA & training camp reps with the 1st team & plays with the 1st team against opposing 1st team defenses. You can’t consider a QB a rookie until he has that first full offseason with his players as the number 1 QB. Regarding the 3 you mentioned above, Ben & Eli both had Super Bowl rings by the conclusion of their 3rd full year as starters. As for Brees, there are quite a few similarities between a young Brees & a young Sanchez. Brees has never possessed a strong arm & has made a living with the short to intermediate passing game (8-15 yards). Sanchez certainly doesn’t have a strong arm & it was one of the knocks against him coming out of USC. Nevertheless, Brees is proof that you don’t need a strong arm to be a successful NFL QB. Maybe with the right teaching & gameplan, Sanchez could become a player as good as Brees. I would like to see that happen because from all appearances, Sanchez is a hard worker & despite his propensity to screw girls significantly youger than him, he seems like a really nice kid. However, one glaring difference between the two is accuracy. Accuracy, even more than a strong arm, is the most important asset a NFL QB can possess. With that being said, accuracy cannot be taught; you either have it or you don’t. Sanchez’s completion percentage this year, along with the fact that the rarely threw deep, demonstrates he doesn’t possess NFL accuracy. Some passes he is right on the money, but others you wonder where the hell he is throwing it. His deep accuracy is even worse. He either under throws the ball by 10 yards, resulting in a pick, 15 yards over the WRs head, or 10 yards out of bounds. Very rarely are his deep throws right on the mark. That is the most compelling evidence that he will never be a top NFL QB & there is a high likelihood that his performance has peaked.

I’m going to give you a few QB stats to chew on. This time they are the stats of the respective QB’s third full year as the full-time starter.

Kyle Orton (2010; 13 games prorated to 16 games):
          4,496 yards / 25 TD / 11 Int / 58.8 % / 87.5 QBR

Byron Leftwich (2005; 11 games prorated to 16):
          3,088 yards / 22 TD / 14 Int / 57.9% / 89.3 QBR

          David Garrard (2009):
          3,597 yards / 15 TD / 10 Int / 60.9% / 83.5 QBR

Matt Cassel (2010; 15 games prorated to 16 games):
          3,324 yards / 28 TD / 7 Int / 57.9% / 89.3 QBR

          Mark Sanchez (2011):
          3,474 yards / 26 TD / 18 Int / 56.7% / 78.2 QBR

3 of those 4 are without full-time starting jobs right now (Orton was a fill-in for the Chiefs) and I don’t really think many people here view Cassel as even a good, let alone elite NFL QB. Another stat for Sanchez that lends credence to the fact that he’ll never be very good is his dismal yards per attempt, the true barometer of a QB’s effectiveness. His yards per attempt this year was a dismal 6.40 this year, worst in the league amongst QBs who started every game this season. It is more likely that Sanchez becomes one of the above 4 players, hopefully along the lines of Cassel, than the 3 you mentioned. Then again, who knows? However, the eye test doesn’t lie and he didn’t show that he has the ability to be a top NFL QB this year.

          • avatar SackDance99 says:

Eli didn’t crack 60% completions until his 5th season and still has a career 58.4%. Also, Eli badly regressed from his 3rd to 4th season, but oddly won a Super Bowl. From my eye, Sanchez regressed. It’s hard to know the source, but we will see next season if Schotty held him back. In his defense, there’s no NFL throw that Sanchez can’t make, but he’s very inconsistent. He has a tendency to throw behind his receivers and throw low. Can he be coached better? Is it a natural progression in his development? Who knows, but as shown by Eli, completion percentage alone doesn’t tell the whole story.

They did, buddy. They won 4 straight playoff games on the road when they won their last Super Bowl in 2007-2008. Are you really going to hang your hat on the fact that you guys won 4 road playoff games over two years? Come on, bro, you’re better than that. How many Super Bowls did the Jets win over that time? None, and more none since ten NFL/AFL merger in 1970. How many conference titles did the Jets win? None, and yet some more none since 1970. How many division titles did they win? None, and only 2 since 1970. They don’t give out Wild Card trophies & they don’t give out trophies for finishing 4th. How about you tell me when the Jets actually win a trophy to go along with that old, lonely, tarnished Super Bowl trophy sitting in Floral Park from 40-plus years ago.

  39. avatar JetsFans4GIANTS says:

Scape-goat. And Tony Sparano? I’m sorry but what more has he done as an OC than Schotty? The Dolphins offense got BETTER after he got the axe. Also, Dallas’ offense under him was far from a juggernaut. When he comes in next year & there is little to no improvement with the offense, specifically Sanchez, who are all of you guys going to blame then? Schotty leaving does nothing but put a band-aid over a gaping shotgun wound. The problem is the personnel, specifically the mediocre QB & the overrated RB. Sparano isn’t going to make Sanchez learn how to throw the ball deep with accuracy & he’s not going make Shonn Greene get faster. Temper your excitement; Vince Lombardi couldn’t fix this offense.

    • avatar boogie down says:

The aggregate of Eli Manning’s first three years in the NFL:

      41 G, 39 GS, W-L: 20-19, 690/1276 (54.1%), 8049 yds (6.3 YPA; 196.3 yds per game), 54 pass TD, 44 INT, 73.2 RTG, 60 rushes, 136 rush yds, 1 rush TD, 21 total fumbles

The aggregate of Mark Sanchez’s first three years in the NFL:

      47 G, 47 GS, W-L: 27-20, 782/1414 (55.3%), 9209 yds (6.5 YPA; 195.9 yds per game), 55 pass TD, 51 INT, 73.2 RTG, 103 rushes, 314 rush yds, 12 rush TD’s, 29 total fumbles

The key here is that the rate stats are nearly identical, apart from rushing TD’s. While Sanchez needs to be more secure with the football, there’s pretty strong statistical evidence that suggests he’s right where Eli Manning, indisputably an elite QB, was as a passer at this point in his career.

Remember, Eli stagnated in his 4th year, seeing a slight reduction from the prior year in his completion percentage and TD’s, a slight increase in his INT’s, and nearly a 50% jump in the number of times he fumbled.

All of this is to say, it takes time, diligence, and patience to develop a QB. Being that you know how Eli progressed, why should we Jet fans have no reason to believe Sanchez will do so accordingly, especially when their statistical profiles are exceedingly similar?

      • avatar JetsFans4GIANTS says:

You can think he’s going to develop into Eli all you want. I’ll advise you not to hold your breath. They’re two completely different QBs. Eli had all the tools coming into the NFL whereas Sanchez had significant weaknesses. Eli steadily improved on the few weaknesses he had early in his career & showed signs of being elite early his career. Sanchez hasn’t improved much since he has started his career & hasn’t shown any signs of being more than average. He is either an average QB one day or terrible another; never great. I may be wrong though, and it would be good to see him succeed. He has one more year to show it or else he’ll be trying to do it somewhere else.

        • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Sanchez came in with not even a full college career. He has in his first two years won 4 playoff games and both times one game away from the SB. This year management pilliged his offense! He was all set to make the leap and had his chemistry of wrs taken, an oline with a career back up who sucked at RT and depth issues which had him battered all season. Next season if given back the resources that were taken away and a breath of fesh air in coaching, he will be on the right track to being a very good qb.

  40. avatar Genedog65 says:

This man lost his job! How dare you morons celebrate his familys trial and tribulations. Besides i think considering what he had to work with he did a great job this year! There were 3 games in which the jets scored 30 points or more.

  41. avatar Jeff says:

Bent, we need a “drop the bomb” thread, if you know what I mean.

  42. avatar Clint says:

If sparano didn’t work out as head coach what makes you think he will have a different approach with the jets?

  43. avatar Jon says:

Do we still have the same QB coach though?

    • avatar boogie down says:

Technically, yes, but it has been mentioned in previous posts that Cavanaugh has told his close friends that he feels he’ll be fired. As there seems to be a bit of a coaching overhaul going on, I see no reason to believe Cavanaugh will be retained, considering Rex and Tanny’s thoughts on Sanchez’s stalled development.

      • avatar joeyboy79 says:

The thing is, how can tanny not expect Sanchezs development to be stalled when you keep changing his wr chemistry on him and also downgrade them and let the oline go to hell in which he was battered all year and had a career back up start at RT who was the worst in the league in protection , HELLO!!!!

  44. avatar Mike says:

    YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BYE SCHOTTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. avatar spindoctor says:

    Good news……I guess.

  46. avatar Dylan says:

Schotty and Rex desperately wanted Schotty back. They just happened to have a replacement ready two minutes after he announced he was leaving lol. This is why you never take anything Tanny says seriously. Everything he says is a calculated move.

    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

I wish his calculated moves didnt leave us in such a huge hole with depth and talent needs though and Sparano, nothing close to special. I reviewd his career in google and nothing stands out at all.

      • avatar Dylan says:

The only reason he was hired as a head coach was because he was successful as an assistant coach. Being a successful head coach and being a successful offensive coordinator are completely different. We will probably run the ball a lot more with Sparano, and use duel-TE sets.

      • avatar SackDance99 says:

A 10 win improvement, developing the best possible offense for Chad Pennington and getting the Parcells seal of approval aren’t good enough for you? Also, he developed a pretty good running game in Dallas and helped develop Romo. If folks want a guy that will be pass happy, then Sparano isn’t your guy. If you want a powerful running game and a controlled passing game, then he’s your guy. Plus, he’s a disciplinarian and judging from all the offensive penalties and me-first attitudes, a little discipline would be a good thing.

        • avatar boogie down says:

Nonetheless, it’s interesting to note that the year he was given play-calling duties in Dallas, 2006, the Cowboys finished 5th in total passing yards and 13th in total rushing yards. Of added importance is that this was the year that Romo took over and started the season’s final 10 games. That the Cowboys performed so well passing the ball in the midst of some QB turmoil implies that Sparano wasn’t as beholden to the run as we may think.

    • avatar Ben Nevis says:

      Dylan—

I agree: whenever Mike T says he “expects” someone to be back next season, it’s like the kiss from the mafioso that means you’re gonna get whacked.

As for Schotty saying he’s not coming back, I think this means that Mike T saw that OCs around the league were being snapped up by other teams, and he had to act fast, so he made Schotty an offer he couldn’t refuse: either you announce you’re leaving, BS, or we’re gonna can you.

  47. avatar PA Jetsfan says:

What has Hue Jackson done to draw your support (overlap w/Rex for 1 yr)? I like Sprano and company. I think the tandem that was discussed earlier this week could work now that Callahan is heading to the big D. Sprano on the pass and Todd Haley on the run.

    • avatar Massive says:

I think it was the other way around; Haley on the pass and Sparano on the run.

      • avatar PA Jetsfan says:

        You are correct

      • avatar boogie down says:

Is that still a possibility? It’s interesting from both sides — the positive possibilities of having both a passing and rushing expert (I’m assuming they’re qualified to be referred to as such) on the staff, handling those responsibilities that they are most comfortable with; and the negative possibilities of having too many voices and no real offensive identity, among other things.

  48. avatar Mark Gastineau says:

Since Schottenheimer stated that he has decided to not return I wonder does that mean he forfeits his salary?

    • avatar mike francesser says:

Probably means he thinks he has a good shot at either a lateral NFL move or a college gig and that he and the Jets probably reached an agreement in regards to the remainder of his deal.

      • avatar Ben Nevis says:

        Mark & mike—

As I said above, the fact that Schotty said he has decided not to return is probably a factor of Mike T seeing all the other (desirable) OCs around the league starting to get snapped up by other teams, and he had to act fast, so he made Schotty an offer he couldn’t refuse: either you announce you’re leaving, BS, or we’re gonna can you.

  49. avatar xtremestarzz says:

  71. avatar Joey The Jet says:

why yall keep deleying my commenst,i didnt cuss, wussup with this favoritism?

  72. avatar frustratedjetfan says:

Great news. Sanchez needs a new voice to listen to, someone to ID his weaknesses, get him to work on them AND optimize his strengths with the right play calls. This is th best thing that could happen to Mark’s career.

On the flip side, wish Brian the best but it was really time for a change for both him & the Jets.

If the choice is Sparano, at least he knows why the Jets offense was so easy to defend against & what talent was wasted. If we focus on personnel now, next year we’ll be back in the playoffs easy.

A change on Offense was a no brainer. After 8-8 this is a key moment in Jets future; either go for it or fall behind to hungrier teams. Miami at least always played like they weren’t afraid to win.- This makes my day.

  73. avatar joeyboy79 says:

I clearly remember an interview with Sanchez last season when he said that he has ALMOST all of the playbook finally down, and now he has to start all over again.

    • avatar SackDance99 says:

I will guarantee that learning Schotty’s play book means that Sanchez can easily digest a new one. Seemed like Chad, who went to Miami during training camp, picked up the Phins’ offense pretty quickly and Brees picked up Sean Payton’s pretty easily, too.

      • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Chad is a scholar, Breeze and Peyton Manning has the same wonerlic score as Sanchez 28.Fitz was in the low 40s as is McElroy!28 is considered good for a qb,low 20s is average.

        • avatar SackDance99 says:

So, you agree with me. Having learned a far more difficult and complex Schotty play book, any other OC’s play book will be easy to digest. And, judging from Chad’s success with the Phins and virtually no time to learn the play book, Sanchez with a full off season should be fine. Or, do you disagree?

        • avatar boogie down says:

You’re right, Chad is a scholar — he was a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship while at Marshall. That he couldn’t properly grasp Schotty’s playbook should be the loudest, most damning indictment of the reported overcomplexity that riddles those pages.

  74. avatar TheRealRK says:

So Schotty is exploring all his options? You think McDonalds or Burger King? Or are those menus a little too complex. He does have trouble with understanding simple tasks so maybe 5 guys. Ding Dong the witch is dead. Its like a huge weight has been lifted off our shoulders

  75. avatar Rich says:

Looks like Sparano already has the job!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Sparano

  76. avatar joeyboy79 says:

Many have said he has problems processing things between the 20s, is anyone worried that this will now be a bigger problem with all the new terminolgy and new book?

  77. avatar BurbankJetsFan says:

Sorry, I was stuck on west Broadway. What did I miss?

  78. avatar PA Jetsfan says:

Shotty’s actual statement: “I resign as HC, I mean OC, because I want to be a HC. Crap this isn’t nearly as cool as when Bill did this and went NE to be HC. Anyway, I wanna be a HC. Malarky? This sucks. I’m out of here.”

  79. avatar miketaliaferro says:

Sparano?? Just what does HE bring to the table? Never heard of him until Tuna had him in tow in Dallas, then Miami. What’s he ever done as a OC to justify this move?

    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Unfortunately when you google his career, nothing stands out at all, but you still never know. This had to be done if for just the fact to remove a variable in shotty that MIGHT have been the problem. As I have said, this is just the tip of the iceburg.

  80. avatar Jets babyyy says:

So the other question is next is Todd Haley coming also?

But any ways love fresh mind new ideas now we can get ready for the draft. With a fresh mind in Sparano.

Norv suck as a coach but great OC. So lets give it a try with this guy I know it will be good.

But as I can see some Jets fans are never happy geeez guys.

Good luck to Schotty hope all goes well.

  81. avatar Dylan says:

Todd Haley will probably be our new WR coach now. I have a feeling this was a package deal.

  82. avatar joeyboy79 says:

I had my fun with this and all jokes aside, we needed this if only for the fact to take away a variable that MIGHT have been part of the problem. Maybe this can be an improvent but only when the team is built around Sanchez. We know what type of qb he is, not a rodgers, brady , breeze, or even an eli. He needs a solid supporting cast. If this move with Shotty gives us momentum to role now, it was worth it but if T uses it as justification that all is good now and goes back to counting his beans we will fail again. Now I will just wait for our predraft moves and see if this organization is on the right track. It will take a hell of a lot more than this.

    • avatar SackDance99 says:

What’s this “counting beans” BS? The Jets under Tanny have been as active, if not the most active, team in free agency since he’s gotten the job. And, several times, he acquired the top UFA to fill a need, like Faneca for Clarke or Pace for Hobson. You are just not being fair.

      • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Not getting into it again.I posted a thousand posts on the subject of T and I am finished with it. I am just looking forward to a solid offseason.

    • avatar boogie down says:

Rodgers throws to Jennings, Nelson, and Finley, among others.

Brady throws to Welker, Gronkowski, and Hernandez, among others.

Brees throws to Colston, Graham, and Sproles, among others.

Eli throws to Nicks, Cruz, and Manningham (possibly the best WR set in the NFL), among others.

I get what you’re saying, but no one does it all by themselves.

  83. avatar Madbacker #57 says:

this was Woody listening to his buddy Parcells, the only man who supports Sparano. Hired him in Dallas then hired him and Ireland in Miami then had to convince ross not to fire them last year. Also doesn’t have a winning record but yup he will turn the everything around

    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Did you ever have a girlfriend that you wished would disappear and when she did and you hooked up with your next, you said what was I thinking? That happened to me a couple of times when I was a pup, lol.

    • avatar SackDance99 says:

Cam Cameron was a terrible HC, but has been a great OC for the Ravens. Remember, Sparano’s first season was great. Then, he was saddled with a bad QB and an aging RB corps. He’ll have better personnel with the Jets.

      • avatar Madbacker #57 says:

Cam was also very good as the OC in San Diego for 4 years prior to Miami. Sparano was Offensive line coach & Assistant head coach in dallas and called plays in 2006, then gave up those duties to Garrett and in 06 they went 9 – 7. In Miami they were 11 – 5, 7 – 9, 7 – 9, 6 -10. IF he was coming in as our Oline coach it would be a great move, but as the OC it is questionable as he has never been an OC and his record is questionable.

        • avatar Madbacker #57 says:

His love for running the ball definitely fits with Rex because if i recall correctly when rex first came in he wanted to bring in Hue Jackson but stayed with Shot, Hue also favored running the ball. My dream would be to pair the two with Hue as the OC and Sparano as the Oline coach.

        • avatar joeyboy79 says:

As I mentioned, I googled his career and nothing stands out. If he is just a conservative pound the ball type, we need a top Defense and solid oline with slasher who can break some, otherwise we will stall again. I hope he incorporates a passing game for balance. We will see.To me its just a lateral move but sometimes a breath of freash air is all it takes. I am just ok with it as long as we go full throttle addressing our many needs.

  84. avatar frustratedjetfan says:

I’m willing to see wht develops & give Sparano a chance. When you troubleshoot a problem you replace one thing at a time. Out of Sanchez, Greene and the rest of the underachieving cast, Schotty was the obvious choice because he calls the plays.

I also wouldn’t worry about new plays for Mark to learn. If Sparano is good, he’ll simplify the O to maximize Mark’s strengths. He was never comfortable with all the pre-snap movements. It just wasn’t his thing. – Maybe it will improve his reads and reduce his mistakes. – It sure as hell couldn’t hurt!

  85. avatar LewB says:

Whatever. If it makes you guys happy, great. Question: Was anyone saying “wow, the Jets would be so much better if they had Tony Sparano at OC rather than Schotty” before yesterday? Whatever. Get the Oline fixed, some sill players and a pass rusher. And a safety.

    • avatar Revis Christ says:

I think people just wanted a change. I saw a few comments regarding a lawn chair being more effective so, I’m sure people are thrilled about Sparano.

      • avatar joeyboy79 says:

We live in a society that always thinks its better on the other side. That is how we are wired. Lets hope in this case its true.

        • avatar Revis Christ says:

joeyboy79, i think the way the O has been looking it can only go up!

Another positive from this is that we can finally see if Sanchez was being held back by the scheme he was in, or if its just…him.

  86. avatar Tot says:

Now we will find out whether the problem was Sanchez or Schotty. Hopefully it was Schotty.

  87. avatar joeyboy79 says:

I have to admit, I am a little excited by this development, but keeping it in proper perspective.

  88. avatar Dobby says:

Change is always the best but the necessary thing…no matter the outcome Schotty HAD to go….We were stagnant offensively with him… Let’s see what Sparano brings

  89. avatar Quinn says:

I understand the creaming of the pants over the Schotty “step down” but what about what we are getting in Sparano? He is a conservative caller, who loves to run the ball. What is going to happen with this QB!? Shouldn’t we be building and not hiding him? I wan’t to be ecstatic about who is coming in – not who is coming out. These guys are going to hide Sanchez.

    • avatar Massive says:

Well, you can look at the job he did with Pennington for his work in the passing game. I too don’t know much about him, but Pennington played really well for him after he left Schotty.

  90. avatar Cip says:

THANKS to shotty for 2 awesome season. Best of luck to him on his next stop as a young coach in the league

  91. avatar Dpaq says:

I really laugh at the ignorance of so many people. Am I concerned about Mark Sanchez? Yes. Does he still need to make a lot of progress? Yes, but let’s look at history. Better numbers across the board than Eli at the three year mark, has not had the same number 1 receiver for more than a season, jets had a very good oline years 1 and2, but not as good as the giants of 05-08 and has not had a Tiki Barber…

  92. avatar vurtualife says:

Clearly Pennington will be hired as QB coach in short order..

Where did Sparano coach prior to Miami, and how did he fare?

  93. avatar joeyboy79 says:

“Clearly Pennington will be hired as QB coach in short order..” Thats when I get estatic!I love Penny!

  94. avatar runleon29 says:

    Hooray, I think??
Schotty had to go and change was necessary, but doesn’t Sparano come off as a loser that Miami has been dying to dump for two years now?

My only hope is that Sparano is more of the smashmouth, run first tough guy that fits Rex’s image of how he wants his team to look.

  95. avatar ny213 says:

when sparano called plays in dallas they had the 5th ranked offense that was romos first year

  96. avatar Dpaq says:

Sparano is a really good coach who’s had crap luck. Adapts to his players’ strengths, that’s why he went to wildcat…best 2 weapons were Brown and Williams. Helped with Pennington’s resurgence. Players coach, strong disciplinarian…I always liked him, he was set up for failure once Parcells left…

We certainly have needs, but for offense all I think we need to do is get bray back, get one stud OL, find a quick pass receiving back to make a triumvirate and pound the rock…this will allow Sanchez to develop at a better rate and make him look better right away!

    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

That would definitely be a boost.

      • avatar Dpaq says:

I understand it’s easier said than done, but it is not asking for toooo much…FA should allow us to pick up a couple needs and we have all our draft picks right now….not making the playoffs this year was a blessing in disguise, it brought weaknesses to the surface AND it improved our draft value by 10 spots every round in a year that currently have ALL!…as a consequence, these picks hold more value should trader mike feel compelled to do so

  97. avatar Sporanosaurus Rex says:

If this is some kind of April fools thing, I’m going to karate chop people in the neck!

  98. avatar Docdrodro says:

He’s being hired as OL/run game coordinator. Not HC.

I guess Steve Spagnuolo, Josh McDaniels, Mike Tice, Tom Cable, Mike Nolan, Wade Phillips, etc etc are all terrible coordinator hires by their new teams as well? After all, those guys were even bigger losers as HC.

Stop imagining some knight in shining armor that’s going to turn us into the NO offense. This isn’t a video game.

  99. avatar Kevino says:

I think Rex & Sparano are much closer philosophically than Rex ever was with Schotty. Going forward, I think we’ll resemble 2009 a lot more than we will 2011. Now all we need are the right pieces to get that rolling.

    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

      Perfectly said.I agree 100%.

    • avatar Dylan says:

Couldn’t agree. If Sanchez doesn’t show a lot of improvement, we will simplify the offense, and go back to a much more conservative approach. My biggest concern though is that Sanchez isn’t accurate enough to be a good game manager. For that reason, it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Jets bring in someone like Jason Campbell in case Sanchez struggles.

  100. avatar Harvlis says:

Jets without Schotty > Jets with Schotty.

    There is a god.

Find out what was wrong with Brick. Replace Hunter. Get some depth at O line. Add a FB who can block and catch the ball out of the backfield. Pick up Marques Colston or Dwayne Bowe, if they are available. Kick butt.

Wonder what this does to Tom Moore’s role.

We’ll find out if Conner is for real because Sparano runs a lot of I formation. If you like ground and pound, Sparano is your man.

    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

In todays nfl, it is a pass happy league. All the regulations favor the qb and wrs for the passing game. It is not like years back when ground and pound won the big one. Today only if you have a TOP running game and an 85 bears D can you make it over the hump. We need a primary running game no doubt, but some balance with some pinpoint and downfield passing to go far.

      • avatar SackDance99 says:

We could debate this all day long, but since 2000, teams like the Ravens, Bucs, Steelers and 2001 Pats all won with primarily run offenses. I’m not saying the Jets should run more than pass, but it has to be closer to 50-50 to complement the Jets D. Like Buttle says “you pass to score, you run to win.”

    • avatar Harvlis says:

I like a FB who has some pass catching ability. Nobody covers a FB. Although, a pure blocking FB (or TE) can be effective, I believe all of your offensive weapons should be dangerous.

  104. avatar boozer says:

I read that Sparano and Todd Haley were thinking about joining as a team.
One for running and one for passing.
Might be good for Sanchez’s developement.

  107. avatar Jeremy Squirley says:

The lack of deep balls thrown was from bad play calling, non creative routes, and everyone knew what we were doing. Sanchez def had a little to do with it too.

Every team knew when Sanchez wanted to Go to Keller and his production showed.

Scamtonio killed all of Sanchez confidence late in the season.

The Miami Players played hard for Sparano. I like this pick up.

  108. avatar bernie says:

I live in south florida and can tell you Sparano is as hated here as Schottenheimer is up there – and for the same reasons. He is conservative to a fault. This move makes very little sense to me. But then again, that is the case with most of Tannenbaum’s decisions.

  109. avatar Dylan says:

There are a number of reasons I like the Jets brining in Sparano.

    1) We will have an offensive identity. Rex always envisioned a smash mouth football team, but I don’t feel like Schotty always felt the same way. We will run a much more simple offense, hopefully with better results.

    2) We are going to run the ball a lot more. Sparano is a conservative play caller. He will not let Sanchez throw the ball 50+ times. He will play to the teams strengths.

    3) Our TE’s should become a much bigger part of our passing game. Sparano is a former TE coach, and used a lot of duel-TE sets when he was in Dallas. We should see a lot of Keller and Cumberland this year.

    4) He will bring back the wildcat. The wildcat was a successful part of our offense, and for whatever reason, Schotty stopped using it for nearly the entire season. I expect to see a good amount of Kerley this year.

    5) He will have a much more disciplined offense. We saw way too many penalties this year. Sparano is a disciplinarian, who won’t allow that to happen.

  110. avatar Browning's Nagle says:

I’m very happy Schitty’s gone, but at the same time I really don’t get why some of you are so excited about the Sparano hire? I’m not saying he won’t succeed, but he’s never been an OC before, and he was a lackluster HC… so there’s really no track record to be excited about? So, what am I missing?

    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Your first sentence answers your last.

    • avatar SackDance99 says:

The hope is that as a former TE and OL coach and assistant coach that called the offensive plays, he will have more of a run first philosophy that is in tune with Rex, takes pressure off of Sanchez and complements the defense. Also, a former TE coach might be able to run a 2 TE offense that would suit Sanchez better and follow the trend of using the TE as a potent pass weapon.

      • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Teams will still have most of their D up front to dare Sanchez to beat them through the air. Sanchez will still need a competent fastball downfield to keep them honest and losen them up. There will be a lot of traffic up front if he cant zing a few and our 29th yds/carry run game will need a miraculous change to be effective.

  111. avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

Is Tony Sparano a good choice, and couldn’t the team go after someone who might be better?

    • avatar Madbacker #57 says:

There are alot of possible choices the team can go after. Right now it is Sparano based on a Chris Mortensen report, although Mortensen does have a long history of being wrong on reports. It seems to make sense on paper, but we won’t know for sure until the team offically announces.

Don’t get too excited, read the article in the Daily News this morning, i think the wheels be fallin off. looks like a lot of players think Sanchez is the problem.
Whether they are right or wrong about him is not the issue, the fact that they are talking to the news papers about his mental toughness, lack of leadership etc is the real problem. i don’t remember any articles like this about any other supposed “franchise” QB’s.

How long before Shotty leaves and then gives his true opinion of our QB, that should be interesting

I think the time was right for a change. Sparano AND Haley would be quite a coup.

I still think we’re overrating our personnel and the execution isn’t going to suddenly become perfect overnight, but hopefully this will get things going in the right direction.

  120. avatar reality jet fan says:

Bent, what do u think of daily news article?

    • avatar Bent says:

Only just read it. There’s no smoke without fire and obviously the locker room is in bit of a mess, but I would hope not irreparably so.

The Dickensian Aspect is pretty significant and NYDN has a habit of collecting dubious quotes from anonymous sources dating back to Cimini’s days (I still, to this day, don’t believe that someone said of Chad Pennington “He’s like an egg back there”).

The fact Mangold publicly rubbished the report makes me more confident it has been exagerrated by someone for whatever reason. The locker room was fine over the first couple of years under Rex, so I’d hope that it will be next year, even if you write this year off as a failure on that front.

  121. avatar david i says:

If this is true, I have to believe a major factor in this hiring is Sporano’s no nonsense approach. He’s a disciplinarian. Someone who will not take crap from a dysfunctional bunch of underachieving pro football players. He’s the antithesis or the anti-Rex! Funny thing is, with his head coaching experience, Rex will give him the reigns with a single goal…Ground and Pound! Then Rex will go settle in on D with Pettine and hopefully figure out how to generate pressure and cover TEs.

Ya think? I have said it a million times, shotty was a drop of water in the vast sea!

    • avatar lead the league in fcking wins says:

totally disagree. schotty cost us the game vs the gmen. we’re in the playoffs if not for that game alone. just need a couple of players on o now and i think we can be at least average on that side of the ball. an average offense with our defense makes us a playoff team easily.

      • avatar joeyboy79 says:

        please!

        • avatar lead the league in fcking wins says:

we beat flipper, gmen, and broncos if our offense was just average. that gives us 11 wins. we may have even beat the pats in the game in foxborough. i just dont understand how you cannot agree with that.

          • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Do you really think we looked like a legit playoff team this year?

            • avatar lead the league in fcking wins says:

absolutely not because of the incompetent offense. that’s my point.the d wasnt as good as the first 2 years under rex, but it was still good enough. we had enough talent to be in the playoffs imho. the offense held the team back and a big reason for it was schotty.

  130. avatar joeyboy79 says:

Think about it, Sparano? Can you really look in mirror and say this was a good move? Now an entire offense will have to be learned for an ex coach whos record was .475 and his offense declined every year he was in charge! He was run out of Miami and their fans hated him more than we hate Shotty!I am done with this nonsense!

  131. avatar mikebe1 says:

Idk if I like sparano I wonder y are they so inlove with him. But…. I had a dream we traded tone the the raiders maybe that can happen they love hot heads out there

  132. Is it at all possible that the Sporano thing is just a rumor and not official. I hope so. The Jets media just released the statement about BS but no mention of anything else, and everything I can find is mostly speculation based on previous rumors.

I am glad we moved past Schottenheimer since, forgetting this year when personnel wasn’t great, he was so inconsistent in years past, and often too conservative, but Sparano is known for his strategy to play it safe and settle for field goals. This will only work if we get ourselves a monster RB and get a quality RT — two things I don’t know we can afford since we need that safety and LB and depth.

I know Daboll was the OC in Miami and Henning before him — both conservative game callers. But Sporano picked them for that reason and coached that way himself as a coordinator.

IF they do go this direction, I hope it also means they sign Henne as a backup to Sanchez as I’ve been wanting all along, and perhaps Pennington is the QB coach and eventual OC if Sporano finds himself a HC job in the next few years (or sucks! haha)

  133. avatar craigkeller says:

Jets interviewing Todd Haley today :) Teaming him & Sparano as asst. HC and OC looks amazing on paper…. However, they both have hot heads. I want this to happen, but only if they can co-exist. Can we FF time real fast to see if it will work out before making this hire?

Sanchez is now on the hot seat. This is a make or break year for him. No more excuses for him.

  140. avatar Boomer says:

The most interesting angle about that Daily News article by Mehta, is that the more dysfunctional this organization looks (Cimini calls it the Flohram Park Zoo) the less of a chance that Manning actually comes to the Jets.

The perception around the league is that Ryan didn’t have control of the locker room. The best receiver on the team quit with the season on the line, and guys were getting into a fight in the huddle during a game.

Now if you are Peyton Manning, do you want to come here or what?!!!!!

    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Thats what scares me about Sparano coming here. He must be desperate with all that is going on here and now a qb controversy to boot.It is not the most stable atmosphere.

  141. avatar Jimbo says:

Thought everyone might want to see what the Phins fans are posting about this news (these are literally the top three comments and then I just stopped reading… looks like they feel the same way about him as we do about Schotty!)

    1. Stop the presses we have found ONE organizatio EVEN DUMMER than the Fins Spare Ano as OC what a freaking joke IT could not happen to a better team The Jests are headed for destruction Rejoice Fin Fans!!!

    2. I’m soo happy for the Jets.. Haahaahaa now the Jets will be my least favorite team {}

    3. Tony Sparano, Offensive Coordinator…..talk about your oxymorons.

  142. avatar Boomer says:

Here are the positives and negatives on the Sparano move, who I know very well.

    Positives:
    1. Works extremely hard. His work ethic in Miami was legendary.
    2. Commands respect. His Miami teams were always in line.
    3. Excellent motivator. His Miami teams always played hard, that’s how they finished the year 6-3 after starting 0-7.
    4. Don’t think he will be in charge of discipline, but trust me, he won’t take crap from Santonio.
    5. He obviously knows Miami’s personnel very well.

    Negatives:
    1. He is not as smart or creative as Shotty was. He is not as intelligent.
    2. Changing offensive system’s after the disastrous season Sanchez just had is not a positive, given that it seems Mark is not elite when it comes to the intellectual part of the game.

  143. The shotty move had to happen, now we can relax a bit. Besides all the over-complicated and ill-advised playcalling, what really bothered me about shotty (as pointed out by Bent many times in BGA) was that the players’ execution was consistently a problem. If one guy drops a pass and you lose the game, blame that guy. If the team as a whole continually under-executes, blame the coaches.

As for Sporano, I think it’d be an interesting move, especially if they can get Haley as well. I, for one, never bought the ‘too many cooks ruin the meal’ excuse for the Jets under-performing offense, because they’ve been consistently inconsistent during all of shotty’s 6 years with the team, regardless of HC, QB and players in general.

  144. avatar Johnnyjetson says:

According to the article i can ow see why maybe santonio was pissed about going to extra sanchez meetings when it looks like sanchez himself is lazy. If the article is half true then sanchez is a huge baby and thats what usually happens with athletes that are given everything there whole lifes.

The jets messed up big time when they drafted sanchez. I had said from the beginning that there should have been a qb competition right from the start to push sanchez. Instead the jets made him the starting qb right away. That was a huge mistake. They needed to make sanchez fight for his job to realize how much work it takes to be a qb n the nfl.

Also during hard knocks you could see a little of that childish attitude coming out of sanchez when namath was trying to give him some pointers on being a better qb. I think the jets best option is to trade him, he obviously cant handle the pressure of the big city. He needs a fresh start in a less media driven location. I dont think manning would come here but there is a few qbs in fa we can sign. My guy is still campbell.
