Jets Want to Keep Sione

by Steiny on February 12th, 2012 at 12:15 pm

With free agency set to begin March 13th (4:00PM), Len Pasquarelli of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Mike Tannenbaum is currently working hard to sign one of the Jets biggest impending free agents before he hits the open market.

The Jets will make a big push before the start of free agency on March 13 to get an extension completed with Pouha, a player coach Rex Ryan feels is the unheralded key to his defense, and who has been characterized as a priority. If there is no deal, though, look for Pouha to be very attractive in the market.

The franchise number for a DT is $7.9 million. I’d expect him to get a short-term deal a little bit below that. Pouha is an important part of this defense, but an even bigger part of the locker room. If Rex is serious about fixing this locker room, Pouha is a guy they must re-sign.

On a side note, the fact that they want him back so bad doesn’t speak well to the development of Kenrick Ellis, who saw limited playing time this season.

This is good news—Sione should be the #1 priority in-house UFA signing this offseason.

  2. avatar levi says:

Bent or Jason, What kind of contract do you think He will be seeking and can the Jets afford it with their other needs?

    • avatar Bent says:

They can’t afford to franchise him, unless they’re planning to trade him.

      Jason wrote this in November:

      http://www.nyjetscap.com/pouhaextension.php

Maybe bump it up by 10% because he had a stronger finish to the year this time. At that level, I don’t see it as too prohibitive.

      • avatar levi says:

Hopefully they can get it done. I would like to see ellis coming in as a back up again for another year before he is ready to start. But this will be Sione last payday so he may want to test the waters of Fa.

  3. avatar joeyboy79 says:

I agree, Sione is the anchor of the line and is a positive force in the locker room that is needed. I have to give T credit for wanting to address this sooner rather than later. We might want to start looking for a NT in the near future as Sione is getting up there in age, but for now, he is greatly needed.

  4. avatar Brooklyn Dude says:

To say this doesn’t speak well for Kenrick’s development isn’t really fair.
Sione wasn’t Sione in his second year either. Sione has become one of the league’s best run stoppers, not to mention a respected leader in the locker room.

We just can’t afford to lose another leader this year.
I think Kenrick will rotate into the lineup more this year.

    • avatar Bent says:

I’ll say it again: Ellis EXCEEDED my expectations for him this year.

      • avatar Brooklyn Dude says:

        Wow……how low were they ?

        • avatar Bent says:

I stand by my expectations for him as being far more realistic than most fans and media members. I saw many suggest he’d step straight into the starting lineup and make a big difference to their pass rush but that’s highly unlikely for a third rounder that played against low level competition.

My expectations were that he wouldn’t play and if he did play he’d get blown off the line a lot. Thanks to injuries to DeVito and Pitoitua, he got in there a few times and blew up some runs, principally with quickness rather than strength (a good sign, because the strength will come in time).

A good comparison was at Carolina – they drafted two DTs in the third round (Fua and McClain) and, because they don’t have the same depth as the Jets, these guys got a bunch of playing time and were the weakness of the team. To start, Ellis would have to userp DeVito, Pouha, Wilkerson, Potty and Dixon – any of whom would start on a team like Carolina – and he was even in a battle for the 6th spot with Tevaseu.

If he was capable of more than that, he’d have gone earlier in the draft. My year two expectations for him are similar to what someone else said above. Hopefully he’ll get in the rotation more often and continue to flash.

          • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Definitely something to look forward to. That position is big for the defense.

          • avatar Brooklyn Dude says:

In the NFL it is unfair to expect rookies to be in NFL
(17 weeks) shape and with all of the learning that is required. Kenrick will be fine.

I had to look up userp, take it easy on us.

          • avatar WOJF says:

Bent, your expectations matched mine, and explain perfectly why this was a stupid pick at this time in franchise history, needed to get players that would contribute in 2011 (like a Safety or blocking TE).

The risk was not worth the potential reward down the line.

And that’s without factoring in the deportation issue.

            • avatar Brendan says:

The risk is not worth the reward?

Did you look at a list of 4th rounders before saying that? Ellis was basically the last selection of Round 3, meaning that a player from Round 4 would have needed to come in and make an immediate impact to make this comment legitimate.

List of 4th round selections that would have even had a remote chance at having an impact for the Jets:

              Welp, that was fun.

There were 3 TEs, 2 safeties, and a bunch of skill position players taken. Taiwan Jones is the only one of relevance out of the skill position players.

Sam Acho is the only guy they could have taken who would have had any impact at all, and they got that same impact from Maybin.

          • avatar Mateen says:

HE was a 3rd rounder becasue of legal red flag, on talent he is a late first rounder. Super Quick and agile at 350lbs- few and far between. PArcells says interior DL is the hardest transition from college to pro’s, so I didn’t expect him to light it up as rookie, from small school, without training camp or OTA’s. This is not Madden, people learn at different speeds. This year with full training and offseason, I expect his talent to push through. He is more Talented then Sione, by far, but doesn’t have the experience yet. So sign sione to a 3 year 12-15M front loaded deal, and expect ellis to replace him full time within 2 years. BTW given parcell’s statement, what a year Wilky had. I expect a big jump for him in year 2. Our DL is set. Now we need to draft the same way this year for LB’s. We need 2 OLB’s and a ILB in this draft.

            • avatar Bent says:

I don’t think he’d have gone any higher than the 3rd even without the legal issues hanging over him.

He fell that far because of drugs in his past and the low level of competition he faced IMO.

In fact, although I expect the Jets knew about it, the news of his possible deportation didn’t leak until after he was drafted, but he wasn’t rated a first or second round pick in most mocks.

I don’t know what to expect from Wilkerson in year two. He was better than I expected as a rookie, so maybe he has a chance to become an elite player sooner rather than later. Here’s hoping.

  5. avatar Daniel Krauss says:

Kenrick needs to get in better football shape. He has strength, and some speed. If he has good durability, he could be a very good NT IMO.

  6. avatar JEFFDOLFINI says:

I think that is a great write up from Jason. an average of about 4 million for the first two years is very fair and everyone wins. If they pay him five million or more per year I will be so pissed. We already overpaid for Holmes and, to a smalled extent Cro as well. We are not the Bengals, we should not have to overpay for talent. If he gets greed then let him walk.

  7. avatar ron says:

I wouldn’t say it is a reflection on how the jets feel about Kendrick. He had limited playing time and it is still too soon to see what type of player he will be.

  8. avatar joeyboy79 says:

I didnt even see him play but a handful of snaps. Way too early to judge. There is nothing to judge, other than I heard he was having a little trouble with technique and getting the game down, but that is expected. We also were well stocked up with other players for his role, so no need to rush. This season we have to up his playing time though.

  9. avatar Tfine says:

Ellis was drafted to play NT/End kind of like Ngata play in Baltmore…I expect him to rotate with Pouha and Devito. Plus the kid never had a full offseason. This is a misinformed and unfair remark..

  10. avatar joeyboy79 says:

Whats unfair, I said I expected that!

  11. avatar jameson says:

I was going to chime-in on the Ellis knock, but it seems everyone else took care of that.

Besides, wasn’t Pouha rated the #2 overall 3-4 NT in the league (or something like that)?

    Bent, Basset?

  12. avatar joeyboy79 says:

How can anyone knock a guy who hasnt really played yet? We are deep in his role, his time will come.

  13. avatar JEFFDOLFINI says:

I say we resign Pouha, sign Braylon, and sign a FA safety and then draft RT Mike Adams in the first round and G Kevin Zeitler in the second round. The offensive line should be shored up for the next four years.

    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Do you really trust a player right out of college,at RT? We need a cheap but proven vet for that. I agree, we need to look to the long term but we really need a solid vet at RT immediately. If worse comes to worse I read the lions Bakus is solid, not great at antyhing but good at everything expected out of a lineman and will be fairly cheap. There are several options in FA. I do agree though we have to look for long term answers on the line.

You mean capable of replacing Hunter…….uh yeah.

          • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Hunter cant start! I would love him for depth but over 2 million? Still not sure whats up with that hunter move. We say we need to save money and yet pull that? Scotts contract we also took another hit,the Buress money shelled out, the Holmes contract, and over paying for Sanchez.I am wondering whats going on?

      • avatar Bent says:

Backus is an upgrade over Hunter but he’s only average (and Hunter is closer to average than most people give him credit for). He’s more consistent against the run, but only gave up four less QB disruptions than Hunter and was penalized 11 times, so he’s no Damien Woody.

If he wants 4m a year, I’m not sure Hunter wouldn’t be better value for money.

        • avatar joeyboy79 says:

The jets have to figure that one out and fast! My eyes tell me that Sanchez will not survive the season with Hunter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • avatar joeyboy79 says:

If worse came to worse and the price is even slightly more than expected, I would go with Bakus based on my knowledge of him. Hunter gets overwhelmed by the faster more athletic pass rushers. We do face a few next season and Sanchez getting wrecked will be a nightmare. While Bakus is not great , he is more stable. Again its the price, But even if we had a find a way and that was our only resort, which I feel it is NOT, I would go for it over Hunter. We cant put Sanchez at risk like last season, his luck will run out with Hunter. The Jets have to learn from that. If T is so good with $$$ he will find a way to deal with the RT position even if paying a few mor pennies. He now has a lot of time to find an answer.

            • avatar Bent says:

Some smart thoughts from Jason on why the Jets may have chosen to bring Hunter back:

                your link is broken.

                • avatar Bent says:

                  It’s fine now

                  • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Bent thanks, the link was awesome. The first paragraph is very scary! The article says there are no MAJOR upgrades, but there are upgrades. Even if the production/salary ratio is not great any upgrade over Hunter is essential. That first paragraph says it all! As I mentiomed the money for any decent upgrade will worth not getting your qb killed and tanking a season with a lockeroom going crazy AGAIN and we cant trust a raw talent right out of college. I see no other options ecxept possibly for T to turn over every stone even if trying to cut a deal with some team that is strong in that area. The advatage that we have is there is time.Hunter cant start!

                  • avatar levi says:

I was looking at RTs yesterday and kind of figured the lack of talent out there was the problem. So I was thinking convert an average LT and got looking at some of them. Then in the daily links there was an article about that with the Lions RT. so who knows what they will do but Im not confident with Hunter. Getting back to pounding the rock will help him though.

                    • avatar SackDance99 says:

In Hunter’ first season as a starter, he struggled. Yet, he wasn’t a turnstile. He had some good games, some mediocre games and some awful ones. Early in the season, Moore was still overcoming rust and injury and, then, Mangold was injured. Mulligan was not only unhelpful, his penalties and missed blocks made Hunter’s season worse. Let’s not forget that Schotty’s predictable offense lacked any deception for the passing game and the OL suffered from not enough practice together due to the lockout. Finally, either because of the offense or technical lapses, Sanchez was holding on to the ball too long almost all season. Also, IMO, Slauson’s weaknesses occupy Mangold and hamper his line calls for outside protection because the no. 1 priority is to protect the pocket up the middle. It would be no surprise to me for Hunter to start and play well next season if the other offensive needs are addressed, including better play calling. Instead of fixation on RT, how about obtaining a real pass blocking TE that can catch. If that OLB gets chipped block and has to worry about the TE catching a pass, he can’t pin his ears back and pass rush or is forced back to the weak side, where Brick usually can handle the speed rushers. Fixating just on Hunter is typical Jets fan myopia.

                    • avatar Bent says:

I was looking back at Hunter’s season. He essentially had one bad game (Denver) between week 3 and week 15. If he could play a whole season like he did in that interim period, the line would be fine as it is.

Sack suggests that with help they can overcome his weaknesses. I still think they’ll maybe draft a possible replacement, but maybe he has a point there.

                    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Hunter is not a competent starter. Every analyst that I have read says that. The results were horrific. Did you read the first paragraph of bents link? There was a reason he was a back up for 8 years! After 8 years as a back up and the horrible results last season we have to find a better option, too much rides on this. Sanchez will still be shaking off the beatings even before next season starts! Fool me once, shame on you fool me twice shame on me, should be the jets plan. With a young player I can see your point but hunter is no spring chicken and after 8 years and last season had his chance and we are lucky Sanchez is not on IR. If Callahan whos bread and butter is the line couldnt do anything with him, forget it. He is just to vulnerable to speed rushes and it will be a time bomb brewing. Please, lets move on and just keep him as a back up which he really is.

                    • avatar SackDance99 says:

                      joeyboy79,

I couldn’t care less what pundits say, they’re wrong almost all the time and they don’t watch the Jets play every week. You say that Hunter should be replaced. Okay, I’m all for an upgrade, but at what cost? A UFA? The Jets have cap issues and RT just isn’t a position where NFL teams spend a lot of money and the pickings at RT are slim. A first day draft pick? Again, that’s not a typical slot for a RT. Also, I don’t believe a rookie would be instantly better than Hunter. As Bent points out, Hunter was mostly a decent RT with lapses. And, your speculation that an 8 year pro can’t improve because of his age is no better than mine that says whatever a player’s age is, he has to adjust to the weekly rigors of NFL play. Last point, Callahan loves Hunter, so I tend to believe he’d agree with my assessment, not yours. Here’s what Callahan said before the season, and it’s high praise:

“He is, by far, the best athlete I’ve ever coached on the line. He can do it all — his power, his leverage, his ability to run, his ability to move — I mean, you name it, he excels at it,” says Callahan, who enters his 13th season on an NFL sideline since 1995. “There are no flaws athletically.”

I don’t think it’s smart football to give up on a guy that Callahan, who knows more about OL play than anyone who posts here by a wide margin, called the best athlete he’s coached. But, heck, that’s what this site is for, to air different opinions.

    • avatar mucky moose says:

None of those moves adress the Jets need for a pass rusher.

      • avatar joeyboy79 says:

For years I have been waiting for T to come through with a pass rusher! I guess we will have to wait a little longer. I still say the offense is first priority, then , OLB and safety positions.

  14. avatar estar says:

Sione will be back in a jets uniform, he is that important to us, we know that and so do the jets. but just because they want him back does not mean that kendrick ellis is not developing its just that in this league u need to good nose tackles to run a 3-4 and besides ellis was a rookie who did not get to go through a full offside. kendrick will turn out to be a fine player

  15. avatar joeyboy79 says:

The more I think about it, our offense going back to ground and pound, the more I believe we need a top running back. Green was the most underwhelming 1000 yard rusher that I have ever seen. He can’t break a big one and his style is not athletic at all. He might be the compliment to a more productive RB, not the other way around.Do we want to bet a season on JM/BP for what they say will make or break our team?If we are proclaiming a real commitment to the running game and that it will be out true identity that everything hinges off of, how can anyone be confident that this will be accomplished with SG?

    • avatar Brooklyn Dude says:

Shonn Greene looked like a good runner when Damien Woody was blocking and we went to the AFC championship games.

      • avatar joeyboy79 says:

He did show flashes but it was a much smaller sample set. He is injury prone though which is a concern. He barely made it to the end of last season. Remember down the stretch, everytime he got up, he was in pain.

        • avatar Brooklyn Dude says:

Better blocking would help him out there.
I guess you don’t think Joe McKnight isn’t good enough to compliment Greene.

          • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Dont even know if SG is a good complimentee. JM is not proven. I am just saying to risk an entire season on gambling with SG and his injury proclivity and banking on JM for an area that is supposed to define this team is a little hairy for me. I just have to put my faith in Sparano, he knows exactly what he wants. I really believe brass knuckles Tony is a great addition even if he lacks the experience. His other qualities will outweigh that in my opinion.

            • avatar Johnny Reefer says:

dude you said the same thing some writer said the other day about Greene. The exact words.

Seriously Greene was not used right. If he is used correctly he is a legit back.

That means he needs 20 to 25 carries pure game, which he has yet to get. In the NFL today EVERY running back is injury prone.

              Peterson= injuries
              Foster= injuries
              CJ= injuries.

Greene is more the capable of carrying the load if used right,

  16. avatar jerk says:

He probably will want to test the waters but ultimately he will want to be a jet. Also he will find out that the reality of the matter is that sione will get good money for being a 33 yr old. This is going to be hard for another team to give him a lot of money and a lot of years, so I think he ends up back with us after he realizes the offers out there for a 33 yr old D line man isn’t that great. We should also want him to test the market so we dont over pay for him considering we need all the cash we can get.

That charge doesn’t NOT constitue “self defense”.

Your all-inflammatory meds are going to make your comments even more inflammatory! That’s performance enhancing substances right there.

Hank, the system is not perfect like anything, but by far, it is fair. Its all we have. Would it be worse than in some other justice systems around the world? I will take my chances right here and it is still innocent until proven guilty.Ellis will be taking snaps in 2012, just watch. I agree with many of your takes but this one in my opinion is a little off. No problem, we can all agree to disagree.

When a guy can prove that he has been “Maliciously assulted” (beat to a pulp)and the other guy has barely a scratch, it is very difficult to establish self defense!!!

His best case scenario would be to plead down to a lesser charge (if he can)and avoid deportation altoghether!!

                    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

Hank, if a guy breaks into your house at 2am with a knife and comes at you and you shoot a hole in him with your legal weapon to protect your family, but you didnt get a scratch but the perp is a mess, would you be guilty of assualt?

I am not saying this is the same thing as the Eliis case , just that b/c you dont have a scratch and the perp is a mess dont mean you are guilty.

          “Case closed.”

The case hasn’t even started yet, Hank. What’s that phrase… that the country is based on… innocent until proven guilty?

  19. avatar joeyboy79 says:

As a matter of fact,if I was him, I would sue the guy with the baseball bat which is a deadly weapon, for trauma!

  20. avatar Dave says:

I don’t think this says anything of Kenrick Ellis, who is definitely a project and may not start to look like a player until his third season.

The simple truth is that Sione Pouha is a fantastic player, one that’s been a Jet his entire career, and he plays a pivotal position on defense. That’s really all that needs to be said in whether they should be bringing him back.

  21. avatar mucky moose says:

The reports I heard is he went beyond self defense, attacked the dude once he was down on the ground.

    • avatar Bent says:

If any of us knew exactly what happened, I doubt they’d be headed to court, but if he was protecting your girlfriend or sister when some maniac came after them with a bat, would you want him to get off him when he hit the floor? I’m aggressively passive and I don’t think I would.

Hopefully the judge feels the same.

      • avatar joeyboy79 says:

I agree it all depends on the circumstances/time. If the guy was out of hit and he kept getting pounded ,it could be a tough call. I would have to get all the facts first and be on the jury. We really dont have all the facts. It could still be plea bargined to a meaner.

  22. avatar Nickballs2000 says:

Hank, your Buccaneers suck so screw off.

  23. avatar pete says:

Let him walk he should get paid. He’s old. Let Ellis play the kids going to be a monster. Devito wilk Ellis maybin dixon would work. I think we should get devin still in the draft. He’s a beast. Ellis and still would eat up doubles

  24. avatar neauone says:

Hey Steiny, this is your quote “On a side note, the fact that they want him back so bad doesn’t speak well to the development of Kenrick Ellis, who saw limited playing time this season.” Are you serious? This guy hasn’t had the benefit of playing any reasonable amount of time to make any judgment. Forget the fact that he had practically no preseason prep to boot. Pouha had years before he got to even get into a game, a fact you seemed to have passed over. This kid had he kept his nose clean would have been a first round pick. If Pouha signs with another team, and he very well may, than the Jets have to draft a NT to replace him asap or go with Ellis. Pouha was the back up until Jenkins went down. So I think you may have to ease up a bit in your assessment. Which I totally disagree with, and believe this guy is going to be a good player and will begin to show dividends this year.

  25. avatar joeyboy79 says:

A very good post. He did have some issues with technique and understanding the game at an NFL level but that is expected at this stage of the game.

We were stocked up on the dline so we didnt have to rush him right in. I have no clue if he will succeed, but in no way is anyone accurate to say he wont, without giving him a shot.

I will admit, he now has to have his role increased, not saying to take every snap, but this season we need to increase his role to determine what we have in him.

  26. avatar Scott pee says:

We need a NATURAL pass rush!

    • avatar joeyboy79 says:

I love you scott pee! We get that everydown pass rusher the entire D improves. This is not to say it solves all our problems , but a start man! I am writing a letter to the jets, no joke!

This is Brogues. You are missed. Post here of course, but stop by the Stream when you can.

You have many, many friends that want to hear from you.

What’s up Brogues! Nice to hear from you, it’s been a while.I will admit, that I miss you guys, but it was for the best. I have no hard feelings towards anyone, but it is like a football team, sometimes you find out that in leaving you get a new start, but always remember where you came from.

The dudes here are great and while we debate intensely, there is no hitting low. Yeah, we all get on each other’s nerves, but we realize we all want the same thing. The staff here is great. They keep order so that the environment is conducive to all posters. I can’t say enough good about this blog.

To be honest, I have no intentions of coming back, b/c that will be counterproductive, as you know what will happen. There are certain posters who would look at me coming back as a go card to start trouble again and we all don’t deserve that and will be back to square one. It is peaceful on both sides now.

If you will, please tell all that I give my regards, it will be appreciated.

Give a special shout out to Gonzo for me. You and Gonzo are my favorites. Anyway, I hope you and Gonzo post here. You are both very knowledgeable on the jets/football and you views will be welcomed. They don’t play games here and as long as posters are sincere and abide by the rules things are cool. They monitor this site and go after IP addresses for noncompliance unlike other sites, so you never have to worry about nonsense here. That is what I like most about this site.

Thanks for letting me know who you are (SCOTT PEE, LOL), as I had an idea but wasn’t 100% sure. Take care and don’t be a stranger!

              Joe

The pro bowl as per the sports spyder news feed article was very accurate. I started to watch the last PB but it looked like it wasnt even football! I love football and watch any game but this one seemed more of a stage act and I had to shut it off. I agree that the players are not at fault. Who would want to play hard and hurt their real season contract and future by getting hurt while picking up chump change? The pro bowl means nothing to me. Gauge the players by what they do during the regular and playoff season that helps their team. The PB is just a horse and pony show.

    • avatar Scott pee says:

The only sport that has an all star game where every player goes all out is baseball.

The lack of defense in the NFL,NBA & NHL is understandable due to injury concerns but still makes the game ludicris. The Pro Ball fooed me during the first play I watched. I thought the whistle must have been blown because the defensive line was just standing there.

Even Wayne Hunter could have played and not allowed a sack !

  28. avatar WOJF says:

Can not overpay for Pouha, as much as I love his performance he is aging and has a bad back.

Believe Mr. T is handling this perfectly, show him the love and proactively offer him a reasonable amount of money.

He seems like a good guy that appreciates the patience the Jets showed with him over the years and hopefully we will get him at a discount, but there is always some idiot out there that throws too much money at someone at it may be at Sione if he hits the open market.

If that happens we have to let him walk, this is one position where we have depth, DeVito can slide to NT.

  29. avatar WOJF says:

After reading Jason’ article on hunter it is apparent the answer is not in free agency but it still doesnt explain overpaying him to stick around.

I respect Jason’s opinion, he certainly does a lot more homework on this than any of us, but I still dont think Hunter would get 2.5M guaranteed from anyone else and I am certain he would have renegotiated downward for a chance to continue to start.

There were 4-5 RT’s listed as potential second round picks in the last mock i saw, it would be a travesty if the Jets dont take one of them.

All this would be completely unecessary of course if Ducasse had been as good as our crack personnel department thought he was.

None of them noticed Victor Cruz when they were up there scouting Ducasse?

    • avatar Brendan says:

Neither did any of the other 30 teams other than the Giants.

      • avatar WOJF says:

And finding players like these win you Super Bowls.

Mr T has had plenty of time and has yet to uncover a true impact talent late or in UFA (yes Mike DeVito is a solid run stuffing DL but hardly Cruz or Colston or even A Bradshaw).

Is it really TOO much to ask?

    • avatar Bent says:

To give you some idea of the RT market, Breno Giacomini got a 2 year, 6m deal over the last few days.

Giacomini graded out better than Hunter, but not significantly better, especially when you take into account the fact he only started 8 games. He had nine penalties in those eight games (Hunter had 11 in 16) and was pretty inconsistent with a couple of good performances and a handful of bad ones, with a very negative overall grade.

If Hunter’s salaries are knocked down to minimum level for the next two years, his three year, 5m deal will look good compared to Breno’s 2/6 deal.

The one major similarity is that Breno had a strong finish to the year, which is where Hunter was 12 months ago. As we know, that doesn’t mean he’ll be great in a full time role next year.

      • avatar Brooklyn Dude says:

By NFL standards, that is probably what average OL get paid. In my opinion the team will improve quicker by upgrading via the draft to somebody who can hopefully step in right away.

Some of Santonio’s nonsense can be alleviated by getting him the damn ball……lol.

I don’t think that lineman will be in the later rounds, could get lucky…..but.

        • avatar WOJF says:

But how old is Breno? Is he young enough to potentially have upside? Because Hunter isnt.

          • avatar Bent says:

He is younger – he’ll turn 27 early in the season. Definitely upside there, but then again he’s been a tackle longer than Hunter (who used to be a DT, don’t forget).

Upside or not, Hunter for three years, 5m doesn’t look so bad when Breno gets 3m a year and is no less unproven than Hunter was 12 months ago.
