Burfict About to Plunge

by Bassett on February 27th, 2012 at 2:00 pm

I wouldn’t touch him.  He does have some talent, but he is so undisciplined on and off the field. The guy is completely out of control. There’s no way you could trust him. I can’t believe they (ASU coaching staff) didn’t cut him loose.”

“I just watched a bunch of his tape the other day, and I said forget the penalties and all is that stuff that surrounds him. What kind of football player is he? And I came away unimpressed.  From my perspective, if he gets a chance at a blow-up hit where he can just knock somebody into the next century, he’s going to take it and it’s going to look really good. That’s where he’s impressive. When he sees something and comes downhill and blows it up, it’s really good.  However, the other major percentage of the time is his instincts aren’t good. … So that’s even before you factor in all the other elements. So from my perspective, I don’t see first round at all.

I used to be really high on him, but I believe I was wooed by a few highlight reels and big hits.

  2. avatar a57se says:

Good maybe he falls to the fourth or fifth round and we can get him cheap. Rex can spend a year or two coaching him up, Bart Scott mentoring him and we end up with a mature BEAST at ILB.

  3. avatar jameson says:

One of the reasons he chose to go to Arizona State was because his childhood best friend (and high school teammate) went there.

Burfict is not a sharp dude, he needs help getting lined up and understanding his role on each play. When his friend (mentioned above) wasn’t on the field, Burfict’s play dropped off significantly.

I wouldn’t draft him in the first round, but I wouldn’t turn my nose to him in the 2nd or 3rd.

  4. avatar David says:

I’d be ecstatic if we got him in the 3rd.

  5. avatar frankc says:

sinking like the titanic. I don’t like his’tude

  6. avatar Kevino says:

Jets just gave Bart Scott permission to seek a trade, so maybe this kid will be in our plans after all.

  7. avatar Nick says:

would be ok with a 3rd but would be a great 4th rounder…i can imagine him coming in with a serious chip on his shoulder and filling the Bart Scott role and just ruining full backs and pulling guards to let Harris do what he does

  8. avatar long/time/1st/time says:

i use to like him but the more i see and read about his tude i only like him in 3 or 4th round. the dude can flat out ball but we have holes. Bart is old and slow we have to look for his replacement.

  9. avatar Revis Christ says:

Is there ANY chance the Ingram would fall to 16? I don’t see it, Walter has him going 10 to the Bills.

    • avatar JACK THE FOOTBALL GURU says:

Yes, if Bills like upshaw more, or they decide to go in other direction. There is a good chance ingram is there for us.

  10. avatar jetset says:

manish metta just reported the jets are letting bart scott seek a trade…crazy!

  11. avatar jetset says:

maybe we can get burfict or mychal kendrick to fill that role or my darkhorse nigel bradham

  12. avatar frankc says:

    wow! who wants him lol

  13. avatar jetset says:

idk hopefully somebody will give us a forth rounder at least

  14. avatar frankc says:

Bent/Brendan -ouch I didn’t realize he had a 6 yr/48M. what can they get for him without swallowing much of that cash. yikes.

  15. avatar jetset says:

i just think its crazy bart wont be out their anymore but he dropped the ball after cant wait! and then played like poop against the steelers

  16. avatar jetset says:

i wonder if hes traded for a pick does that give us more money to sign free agents

  17. avatar Revis Christ says:

If Scott does get traded i hope that doesn’t mean we pick an ILB with the first pick. Too many other needs.

  18. avatar long/time/1st/time says:

Bart is going to the Pats

  19. avatar Revis Christ says:

    Cap Wizards:
How much cap space would it free up?

  20. avatar frankc says:

who would want him? I think he can only play a 3-4 bc he’s slow. I can’t imagine there’s much of a market for a big mouthed slow LB in his 30s that can only play on 1st & 2nd downs. maybe I’m crazy.

  21. avatar levi says:

I wonder why he is asking for a trade now. They probably asked him to take a pay cut.

  22. avatar bob says:

Need a good plunger..Burfict your man..

  23. avatar jetset says:

blessing in disguise burfict will fall to us in the second or maybe even the third, i think hes a guy rex will love to much to let go even with the slow 40

  24. avatar Badger says:

The 40 yard dash just took him three days.

  25. avatar jetset says:

wait no he ran a 5.09 40 thats slower than some 340 pound dts, he might just suck.

my boy nigel killed it at the combine though

  26. avatar reality jet fan says:

Dont know about bart scott mentoring him because the jets gave him permission to seek a trade

  27. avatar Massive says:

Apparently the Jets are allowing Bart Scott to seek a trade. I’d like Mauga as the replacement ILB (he seemed to take advantage of ample opportunity last year), but I wonder what that means for the Jets’ defense. Hopefully, if the front office is looking to get rid of him, we do it in a cap friendly manner.

  28. avatar frankc says:

i know he’s a talent but I don’t want a 22 year with a tude like that on this team. get him a guy with as much or less talent that plays smart, leads the team and doens’t make mistakes and commit stupid penalties. I feel Burfict will be a penalty maker.

  29. avatar juunit says:

Can we stop it with Burfict now then?

  30. avatar a57se says:

Personally, I hope the Jets end up with Hightower and McClellin out of this draft at LB…..

  31. avatar MRNCLSS says:

How can anyone say they don’t like Burfict’s attitude? He’s exactly what everyone loved in Bart when he came here. A badass attitude. So what he ran a slow 40 or had a bad combine. The combine is a bunch of drills that only showcase speed and strength. Look at Gholston or TJ Mays. These guys WOWed everyone at the combine yielding high picks, and are absolute busts in the pros. On tape Burfict flies around and lays huge hits. If he’s there for us in the 3rd, say thank god and call his name at the podium.

    • avatar JDB says:

You are over simplifying Burfict’s play. In fact he is invisible most games, and lays the occasional big hit. He has talent but is way too inconsistent

  32. avatar Barbella says:

It’s hard for me to hear this. I went to ASU and love the Jets. I had such high hopes Burfict’s perfect for Rex smash mouth defense. Only, my confidence is slipping as fast as his stock with every report. One thing’s for sure, character issues aside, Rex can judge his potential.

    • avatar jameson says:

If you guys saw him run, you would’ve seen that it was just OFF; like he had no coaching whatsoever…which would explain his being completely unprepared.

      When sprinting:
Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE since the beginning of time, raises their off-the-line hand up in the air behind them. They shoot/swing it down to provide momentum for their first step.

Burfict held his out front, like an ice-skater. It was bizarre.
