About TJB

Bassett displays the scale of misery that will be the 2008 season.
My name is Brian Bassett and I have been writing this blog solely focused on the Jets since 2004. Although we don’t do this full-time, it’s been a lot of fun and we’ll do it as long as we can!
1. Why are you doing a blog about the Jets? Isn’t there a more pathetic team you could have picked, like say the Redskins?
I have loved the Jets for a while, but it was a strange path to get here. As a youngter, I was a Chiefs fan. When I went to my first football game with my father and godfather [posts here as The Ed(itor)], I saw former Jet Dennis Byrd get seriously injured, and I tracked his story of recovery. Following his progress made me become a Jet fan.
I grew up in Westchester New York and when I started this blog, I loathed my job at the time so it gave me something to pass the time instead of doing real work. I guess I started for a number of reasons in September of 2004, and here I still am, what does this really say about my life?
2. What makes you any different from any beat information gathering mechanism for the Jets?
Where to begin?
First off, I don’t consider myself a Jets ‘insider’ in any way, shape or form … not to say that I wouldn’t jump at the chance. Most of the information that I gather is second-hand, most likely just like yourself. I do get lucky enough on occasion to interview players and such, but that’s rare.
Second, unlike some of the sports columnists , I do have a soul, so continuing to ask the same freaking question repeatedly in a press conference and expecing a different answr would make me feel bad for the subject of the interview.
Third, there’s always something to report on regarding the Jets, sometimes you just have to look a little harder or be creative.
My goal is to try and find Jets information on the web and present to you it in a way that you would find entertaining and informative. If that gives you some time away from your daily stress, then my job is done.
3. Other than the Jets who do you like?
Unlike a large percentage of you, I am not a Mets fan. I am a Yankee fan as proud of the days of Balboni, Azocar & Hensley Muelens as I am of Jeter, Martinez and O’Neil. There was a time when I was a Knicks fan, but Isaiah’s ineptitude didn’t help me much.
4. What gives you the right to start a Jets blog?
Absolutely nothing other than an obsession for the Jets. We are run by Brian Bassett, who cut his teeth with Celticsblog.com’s Jeff Clark on a now long defunct project called SportsRant, among others. Basically we were trying to do a blog before they existed, timing is everything, I guess.
Bassett is ably joined by many other Jet fans. Longest co-contributor is our friend Bent who is a Jets fan from the UK, along with a host of other bloggers.
5. Do you take suggestions from readers about player spottings, trade rumors, juicy gossip etc.?
Absolutley. Anonymity is guaranteed but if you would like your name mentioned, I would be more than happy to oblige. We also are happy to take suggestions from any information/articles you dig up on the web. Please feel free to contact us at thejetsblog@gmail.com.
6. I have been living under a rock, what’s a blog?
A weblog is a constantly updated web site where posts are listed in reverse chronological order, so the newest stuff is always at the top of the page. Blogs are written not in the journalistic style, but more a familiar tone (in my case, sarcastic, hipster-doofus & uneducated opinionated). The news is less the focus and the discussion trumps all.
