TheJetsBlog was invited to attend UbiSoft’s event in the Nintendo Store at Rockefeller Plaza where Just Dance was showcased with help from Nick Mangold, Giants center Shaun O’Hara, and Knicks forward Danilo Gallinari. Angel Navedo caught up with No. 74 to discuss his thoughts on the 2009 season, hopes for 2010, and much more.
Believe it or not, but Nick Mangold is the same affable, 6’4″, 300-pound man I spoke with last summer (Part I & II), who loves gaming and technology, but remains driven by football.
Sure, my BlackBerry caught his eye, sparking a brief discussion about the merits of the 9700′s trackpad over the trackball on other devices. But that came second to a subtle display of Rex Ryan’s contagious confidence.
With an even more extensive résumé, now featuring a second-consecutive trip to the Pro Bowl, a postseason charge to the AFC Championship game, and a league-leading rushing attack — aided by the grunt work of the offensive line he commands — the 26-year-old center from Ohio is exactly as I remembered him, only with more accolades.
Maintaining and building upon greatness looks to be the goal in 2010, and although Mangold won’t be the first to boast, he knows what he wants and he believes this team can get it done.
In part three of our exclusive interview with Neil from ProFootballFocus.com (the fast-growing statistical analysis site, which aims to evaluate player performance for every single player on every single play), I ask about some of the moves the Jets have made (or might make) this offseason and whether or not their analysis would indicate these to provide an upgrade.
For part one, where I asked about how the site operates and the data collection process, click here. For part two, where I asked them to go into more detail about some of the more controversial ratings for Jets players last season, click here.
Part three of this interview is after the jump. (more…)

ProFootballFocus.com is a fast-growing new statistical analysis website, which aims to analyze the performance of every single player on every single play. I spoke to Neil from the site, about how it works and what their analysis can tell us about the Jets team from last season and going forwards.
In part one, we discuss how the site operates and what they are aiming to achieve. I was also able to meet with a few of the guys who work for the site and get an insight into the data collection process and the huge amount of work involved. Parts two and three will discuss specific issues relating to the Jets team.

As I previously mentioned yesterday, Rex Ryan had a chance to speak at the combine and talked about a variety of topics that included Vernon Gholston. Below are some of the other highlights from Ryan’s conference:
Notes via Graham:
- Ryan notes that it will be tough to get back to where they were however he is telling everybody right now to “strap it up” because the Jets are coming.
- The final eight rules are a pain but the Jets will have to build with what they have or “find a way.”
- Rexy is keeping tabs on Buffalo’s switch to the 3-4 scheme.
Notes via Cimini:
- Ryan “eulogized” TJ.
- Ryan didn’t want to open his mouth about Aso or AT in fear of possible tampering charges.
- Rex is “proud” of Sanchez who is healing well. It seems the Jets may throw a bit more this season despite their “Ground and Pound” mentality.
- Sexy Rexy talks about his wardrobe malfunction — appearently he isn’t too upset considering he still gets hit on by women.
- He pointed out that he is no Boy Scout but he is maturing.
With the Pro Bowl nigh just especially for you guys and gals, I found a series of interviews of our boys who will represent the Jets in tomorrow’s matchup against the NFC. I also found an interview with Rex Ryan speaking about his first season as head coach from … you guessed it Miami.
Below you will find interviews with:
Rex Ryan
Darrelle Revis
Nick Mangold
D’Brickashaw Ferguson
Ted Berg has a great interview with Jets Safety James Ihedigbo about the season, taking the opportunities presented to them, his head coach, trash talking, his charity work and more.

And so, on an oddly warm October night, Darrelle Revis sat backstage at Comix in New York’s Meatpacking District, prepared for a night of sports-themed satire to benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
The 24-year-old cornerback looked as comfortable as can be after a rushed rehearsal, an hour away from making his stage-acting debut with the 12 Angry Mascots.
Revis took a moment to discuss his methods on the field, two-year-old grudges against receivers who scored on him, and life for the Jets’ defense after Kris Jenkins’ season-ending knee injury.

On his progress…
It’s going just as planned. I’m playing the way I want to, minus the one play today. Today was one of my best days overall with checking the ball down. Today was a tough day, it was raining. If you try and force something over the top, you are going to get picked off and things aren’t going to go well. We stayed smart with the football, checked the ball down and I was accurate in the wet weather. I feel like things are really coming together. I’m just excited to get going.
OPENING STATEMENT
With all that traffic, I can tell why only eight of us are here today. It is great to be back. I thank the fans for coming out today. It was raining, but we had a lot of support out there for practice so that was good to see. There’s nothing like coming home and sleeping in your own bed, too. The only thing about Cortland, I can honestly say that I think my bed at home is a little more comfortable than that one. But, the facilities were fantastic. I forgot how comfortable I was, getting in your own bed, watching your own TV. I had a regular bed [in Cortland].
The negative about being here was the Italian food. That was a huge negative last night. I didn’t think it was possible to eat that much [laughter]. Wow. I forgot that we were supposed to weigh in today. I’m not proud of those numbers. Let’s just say I’m not as heavy as I was when I started, but oh boy.
Rex Ryan’s press conference from earlier today.
Opening Statement…
Today was a good day, a good, spirited day. Competitive. A couple players came up to me after practice and said, “You know Rex, it’s amazing, but when that horn blows, we want to keep practicing.” They’re enjoying it. It’s good competition and I think they’re having a good time out there.
Speaking of competition, I don’t think we’ll have [Darrelle] Revis, [Nick] Mangold, or [Damien] Woody. I don’t think those guys will play in Friday’s game. They’re still going through some things. There not serious injuries, but I’d rather make sure those guys are ready to roll and be 100% than go out there with some kind of ailment and do something stupid. I don’t think they’ll play. Tony Richardson has a chance to play, we’ll see. He would probably be questionable, the other guys would be doubtful — very doubtful [laughing].

As Bassett reported earlier, Chansi Stuckey is making the most out of this competition for the “other” WR spot opposite No. 1 Jerricho Cotchery. Well, after practice, Stuckey was asked how he wants to be known:
“As a reciever you just want to catch touchdowns and make plays … where you are. Inside, outside, in the backfield, wherever. Guys are going to have to defend. The defense is ogoing ot have to know where you are. So if you can go outside, inside and you just move around a lot, which we can do, that’s going ot have to make the defense prepare that much more.”
Stuckey made it clear he wasn’t afraid of being pigeonholed, either.
“No, I’m not afraid, because I’m not going to let it happen. I’m moving outside, inside. … I just wanna move around a lot and make plays everywhere.”
One of the things he was positive about was his ability to be a big-play wide reciever for the Jets.
“I’m definitely looking forward to stretching the field and doing deep stuff … Scotty’s (offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer) done a really good job of moving Jerricho (Cotchery) and I, and a lot of the other receivers around so DBs can’t really get a sonar on where are at all the time.”
A big theme with the offensive players today was the flexibility of the skill pieces the Jets have, regardless of their name value. It seems the offense is definitely going to revert to 2006 form with a lot of pre-snap shifts and motions. If taken at his word, Schottenheimer’s finally going to get a chance to run “his” offense the way he wants. Although everyone preached a fairly vanilla approach to the offense for Friday, it’ll be interesting to watch the offense progress through the preseason and into the regular season. One of the things I’ll be watching for is if all the pre-snap movement will actually affect the opposing defenses or whether it will be fancy dressing on a plane Jane doll.
